Yes, yet another grocery shopping pick up in November!

Order Summary
Original Item Total$96.38
Item Coupons/Sales-$41.76
Fulfillment Fee+$0.00
Sales Tax (for paper towels)+$0.94
Order Total$51.57
Since I don't include things like paper towels in my grocery budget (I have a separate "Household Supplies" budget for paper towels, toilet paper, dishwashing detergent, etc.), I am deducting the price of the paper towels from my total.
Total spent on groceries: $51.57 - $9.98 - $0.94 tax = $40.65
November Grocery Budget = $181.26
Spent to date = $44.48 + $59.66 + $40.65 = $144.79
Balance left in the November Grocery Budget = $36.47
No doubt I will go over budget in November, especially if I host Thanksgiving, but, I'm OK with that. I can "borrow" from the December budget, as needed.
As always, I am grateful for:
- Being able to buy groceries and go over budget, occasionally, if needed
- Being able to order groceries online and pick up at the store parking lot
- A safe drive to the store and back
- The availability of groceries
- Weekend freebies
Saturday's brunch was scrambled eggs with hash browns, made with grated potato instead of diced potatoes, because my daughter likes the grated version. Dinner was leftover chicken stew with homegrown (and frozen) corn on the cob.
Today (Sunday), brunch was croissants sandwiched with lettuce and the ham and turkey cold cuts, with orange juice and bananas. Dinner was the last of the leftover Thai food and grapes for dessert.
How are you doing with your grocery budget? Do you have a separate budget for Thanksgiving?
I don't have a budget as such, but I generally buy similar items week by week, and keep an eye out for a bargain. I guess it might be interesting to add up my receipts but I think I'd get a shock :)
ReplyDeleteI have a store rewards card, and I've managed to accumulate £70 towards my Christmas shop just by shopping as I would normally. Xx
It's fine not to have a budget, especially if you tend to spend approximately the same amount each week. Adding up your receipts might be a fun thing to do, though. Well done with accumulating your points towards Christmas shopping! That will help with buying some of those extras and treats, I'm sure. :)
DeleteThat is good that you were able to stock up on the brownie and cake mix at the sale price. And you got some other good sale prices as well.
ReplyDeletePrices are so high though aren't they?
I was just thinking, how $10 for 4 rolls of paper towels is just crazy isn't it? I guess we are all getting used to the new normal and I'm very much aware of my good fortune to be able to get the things I need & want, but sometimes I'm still stunned by it all.
Your sandwiches on the croissants sound very good.
Thank you, Debra. I'm stocked up on brownie and cake mixes, now! LOL. But, I know I'll never get them at a lower price.
DeleteI try to buy my groceries based on what is on special that week and try to stock up when I see a good price on things I use.
If these name brand paper towels weren't on sale and I needed paper towels, I might have bought the store brand ($3.19 for 2 rolls), but, the brand name ones were cheaper per roll with the sale. The same brand name 6 roll pack was also on sale for $12.99, which, as you can see, comes out to $2.16 per roll, whereas the 4 roll pack came to $1.25, so, of course, I bought that, instead. :) I had just opened my last package of 4 rolls of paper towels, so I could have waited a bit longer to stock up, but, I like to stock up on paper towels, etc. at the end of the year/beginning of the year and I took advantage of the sale. Now I have 11 rolls of paper towels on hand and I'm set for all of next year (but, of course, I might buy another package or two if they go on sale for the same price, again).
Prices are high and I'm afraid they will continue to increase, no matter what anyone might say.
We don't have a budget per se, but try to shop the sales and at discount stores. However, we are spending more this month because we are hosting Thanksgiving, but we are buying ahead and getting things on sale.
ReplyDeleteThere was a time when I didn't have a budget, either. And it worked out well enough, but, now, I like the challenge of having a budget! But, occasionally, I do over spend. However, I think that, over the course of the year, things work out. Anytime we host a gathering like Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner, our grocery spending will increase, but you are doing well with buying ahead and shopping the sales. :)
DeleteI keep an eye on what I spend, but shopping at Aldi helps me a lot, price wise. Lately I have spent more, because I have been stocking up on canned goods, just in case. Seeing those poor people in North Carolina got me checking my reserves.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you have found a store with good prices, Stephenie. The nearest Aldi is a little out of my way and I haven't shopped there, but, maybe, one of these days, I will make a special trip there. You are being wise to stock up on canned goods, etc. Just yesterday, I took stock of my pantry cabinet, to know what I have on hand. :)
DeleteYou did well with lots of coupons. I notice you can buy paper towel which can be used in different sizes? We used to be able to buy one which would tear off half a square if needed. Now, if I don't need a full square, I just take the scissors and cut off the bottom half and leave the other piece on the roll.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Bushlady. Some of the "coupons" are the discounts the store has put on the sale items, some are discounts for using the store loyalty card; only a few are the digital coupons offered by the store during that week.
DeleteThe paper towels come pre-perforated so you can tear it into half or quarter. I often use the full sheet, though, because I mostly use paper towels to clean up Dancer messes and I generally need a full sheet (or two, or even three!) to do that!
You got some really good deals on the cookies/cake mixes! I think that's my plan too. Those things always seem to be on sale at this time of year and with the price of already baked goodies it would be so much cheaper to make my own when we want a treat!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sharon. You really can't go wrong with cake and brownie mixes for under a dollar, I think. Might not taste quite as good as homemade from scratch, but, sometimes, the convenience and price make it more than acceptable. :)
