On Thursday

Chocolates from Neighbor S

Neighbor S called and brought over some chocolates a friend of hers from church had made with organic dark chocolate and pistachio filling.  They were delicious.

I have been waking up when my daughter does in the mornings to make her coffee and I did so on Thursday morning, too.  But, unlike on other days, I fell asleep again, twice!  I must have been tired.

But, in the afternoon, I was quite productive.  I made Dancer's appointment to get his injection and made a phone call to the auto insurance people to get an updated copy of a document.  Checked on the garden and took some pictures.

Lemons on the Little Lemon Tree

The lemons on the little lemon tree (a sucker plant from one of the other lemon trees) are starting to ripen!  As you can see, the tree is barely as tall as the tomato cage M placed to support it.

Then, I ran the dishwasher and cleaned the kitchen, a little bit.  Earlier in the day, I had cut open a pomegranate and there were spots of pomegranate juice splattered all over the place.  So, I took almost everything off the counter where I had cut the pomegranate, wiped down the front of the microwave, the fronts of the cabinets above the microwave, and the wall behind with a damp dishcloth and wiped down the counter, too.  I am someone who struggles to keep the counters cleared, but, this is how it looked after I took everything off and I think this is my dream kitchen counter!

My Dream Kitchen Counter

But, it is not my reality.  My kitchen is rather small and I have things I use on a daily basis which are stored on the counter.  So, after I cleaned the counter and the sink and cleaned the crumbs from the toaster, things were put back:

Back to Normal Kitchen Counter

I used to have the coffee maker on the counter, next to the microwave,  But, my daughter doesn't use it these days.  She uses a  Vietnamese coffee filter called a phin filter, instead.  I didn't want to get rid of the coffee maker, however, because it will be useful for making up to 6 cups of coffee at a time when company comes.  Today, I was able to make room in one of the upper cabinets for the coffee maker, so that's one less item stored on the counter!  So, I have the toaster and the microwave on this counter, now, along with a platter holding my daughter's medications and supplements, another glass platter holding some bottles of condiments and the cup holding cutlery and chopsticks, etc.  Not shown is the mess that is the other counter, along the other wall!  Some of which will migrate over to this counter, no doubt!  LOL.

On Thursday, I was grateful for:

- Another sunny and warm day
- Being able to nap
- A gift of chocolates from neighbor S
- Time spent in the garden
- What I was able to accomplish

Thursday's joyful activity was spending time with my daughter.

Plans for Friday include a fasting blood test at noon and M tending to the garden in the evening.  Maybe I'll try to clear the rest of the kitchen counters on Friday.

How was your Thursday?  What are your plans for Friday?

  1. It's nice your lemon tree gave you a new plant! I'd like my countertops to be clear, but then I too, realize they need to be useful too! andrea

    1. It is nice to have a new lemon plant, already producing! I need to have fewer appliances and more cabinet or drawer space to keep the kitchen counters clear. A bigger kitchen would be nice!

  2. It's amazing that a tree that little is bearing so much fruit!
I prefer clear kitchen counters, but stuff just accumulates like every other flat surface in the house. However, when we had our kitchen redone, we built a pantry that can hold many of the appliances we don't use every day, and I love it.

    1. The little lemon tree is still connected to the mother plant and probably receives some nutrition from it. But, it looks very cute, laden with about 6 or 7 fruit!
I really like how you remodeled your kitchen, June, and I'm sure the pantry with space for appliances works out well. I have some kitchen items stored in the garage - the big stock pots I use for making jam and chutney, the big roasting pan for the Thanksgiving turkey, etc. But, I need to find better storage options in the kitchen for things like the stand mixer, waffle iron, blender, etc. Need to declutter more, I suppose. :)

  3. I love your little lemon tree. It's so productive, and it speaks so much to me about what's possible with intention. ❤️🍋

    1. Thank you, Nia. It's still connected to the mother tree, so, I suppose it gets most of its nutrition from the bigger plant. But, it's cute to see all the lemons on this small tree. :)

  4. Those chocolates look delicious!
It's good you've managed to get out for a walk. I feel a walk does me good each day. I didn't go yesterday as it was raining most of the day. This morning was supposed to be just cloudy but it was quite wet out and drizzly. I put on my raincoat and went for a quick one anyway! Hope you have a good weekend

Thank you, Sharon; I do try to walk a bit on a daily basis. I'm glad you were able to put on your raincoat and walk today. :) Hope you have a good weekend, yourself.

  5. The chocolates look impressive and I love the sweet little lemon tree producing beautifully. I'm amused at your splashed pomegranate juice. This morning DH noticed about 4 large blotches on the floor at the end of the kitchen island, and I have no idea how they got there! I guess I must have spilled something in a daze!

I'm always spilling stuff or splattering things when I cook. I hope you were able to wipe off the blotches on the floor. :)

  6. The little lemon tree sure is putting on a show with so much fruit! The chocolates look very fancy. I would also love a clear counter, but that's not my reality either. I'd need a much bigger kitchen.

    1. The little lemon tree is cute, isn't it? The chocolates were delicious. I've too many things to keep the kitchen counters clear, but, if I declutter the cabinets a bit more, maybe I can find spaces for some of the stuff I keep out. A bigger kitchen would help!

  8. I share your frustration with lack of work surfaces. My old kitchen was much smaller than my current one, but far better designed. I am constantly struggling to make enough space to work in when I cook, and unless I have done all the washing up before I start, I don't stand a chance!
PS. I have the same little watering can :o)

    1. I, too, have to do all the washing up before I can start to cook! Often, I place the cutting board over the sink to get additional counter space, but, that doesn't always work.
How nice that you have a watering can just like mine! It's what I use for watering the indoor plants. :)

  9. My aren't those chocolates really pretty and delicious looking. And with the pistachio filling, I imagine they were as good as they looked.
The kitchen is a busy place and it's no wonder things get a little crazy at times.
I keep less on my counters than I used to thanks to decluttering. That is mainly a result of getting rid of some large appliances that I did not use regularly. Turns out I'm find never using them. lol
But, I too, have the things I use on a daily basis out but now they are surrounded by space instead of other things.
That jar with the ducks on it - I used to have a mug with the same image on it. A long time ago. Maybe the 70's or 80's.

I definitely need to declutter my kitchen! I've removed various things from the counters, over the years, but, other things have started to live there in more recent times. The jar with the ducks is probably from the early 1990s. The dollar store had the jars in two sizes and I bought some - I keep sugar in the one you see on the counter and I keep my tea bags in a smaller one in the cabinet. I have a glass, too, with the same design and used to have a cutting board to match, which got tossed a long time ago.

  10. That's a cute little tree. I would have been surprised at how it could hold the weight of the fruit, but their main stems are very strong aren't they.
I've got a small kitchen as well, so I understand how tricky it can be to keep it looking tidy. Xx

    1. One day, soon, your little lemon seedlings will look like my little lemon tree, full of fruit! The tree was leaning a bit, and M placed the tomato cage to support it. I suppose, eventually, we will stake it.
I really need to downsize my kitchen! Or find better storage spaces for the appliances, etc., and be better about putting things away and not leaving things out!
