| SugarBee Apple |
M brought me another apple to try. It is called a SugarBee apple. It was crisp and sweet; I enjoyed it, but, I think I prefer the Opal apple as that was a bit tangy as well.
It was sunny on Friday with an afternoon high of 62F. Once again, I walked outside for 20 minutes and got some fresh air, sunshine, and exercise. Neighbor S greeted me and the neighbor next door to her did, too.
I did a load of laundry and hung everything up to dry. Later, I put in an order of groceries. Eggs were on sale, with a digital coupon, for $3.99 a dozen (price without the coupon was $5.99); I ordered a dozen, even though I still have about 6 or 7 eggs in the fridge.
M did a temporary fix on the roof, today, with very limited resources. I need to buy new tiles and nails, etc., before it can be repaired properly. Fortunately, there doesn't seem to be any rain in the forecast for the next several weeks, so, there's time to buy the supplies.
The gas company sent me the weekly bill estimate. Last week, after 6 days into the billing period, I had a bill of $21.91 incurred and an estimated bill of $208.22. Friday's notification stated that 13 days into the billing period, I have incurred $101.58 in charges and the new estimated bill is $258.40. I know I had the heater on quite a bit, last week, when it was so cold, but, I am hoping that I will not need to have the heater on during the day for the rest of the billing period. I'd love to have the bill be around $200.00 for this billing period.
Brunch was leftover roti with the last of the seeni sambol. Dinner was boxed macaroni and cheese with some of the shredded sauteed turkey mixture. By the way, I tried the "bring the water to boil, add the pasta, turn off the heat" method to cook the macaroni and it worked perfectly! Snacks included half of the SugarBee apple, the last of my home canned peaches, and cheese and crackers.
On Friday I was grateful for:
- M was able to do a temporary fix on the roof
- A new apple to try
- Another sunny day
- Working appliances
- What I was able to accomplish
Friday's joyful activity was video chatting with my daughter.
Plans for Saturday include picking up the grocery order.

I need to try that method for cooking pasta. I don't think we've had any since you mentioned it. However, pasta is on the menu for the week coming up. We shall see how it does.
ReplyDeleteThe trick is to cover the pot once you add the pasta and leave it covered for the 10 minutes. The macaroni had clumped a little bit, but, it was fine once I stirred it, before draining the water. I suppose I could have given it a stir after about 5 minutes, too. Hope it works well for you. :)
DeleteI've never tried a sugar bee apple. I tend to buy apples in bags but I could check the bins of loose ones. There may be all kinds of varieties unknown to me. I hope your gas heating works out better in the end.
ReplyDeleteWe had more snow but not enough to keep us in. I need to pick up a few groceries but I got sidetracked with an impromptu tidying of a junk drawer! However, the trucks don't get unloaded too quickly so perhaps there will be items on the grocery store shelves that I need, by the time I get there.
I usually buy the cheapest apples on sale, to be quite honest. This week, the apples on sale were gala, fuji, and granny smith, for $0.89/lb. with a digital coupon; the sugar bee apples were $1.99/lb.

Oh, I do hope that you were able to go and pick up the groceries you need! But junk drawer tidying is very satisfying, isn't it?
That's good news that M temporarily fixed the roof for you and with no rain forecast you have some breathing space to get it fixed more permanently. The apple looks tasty although I haven't heard of the two varieties you mention here. I have my last grocery order of my saver plan delivered tomorrow and I haven't renewed as they put up their prices and I will try a different supermarket as I fancy a change anyway.

How nice that M can fix your roof. My comment yesterday disappeared I assume! So I'll wish your daughter a belated happy birthday! I'm not familiar with Sugarbee

The sugar bee apple is a cross between a Honey Crisp and some other unknown variety of apples, apparently! They were open pollinated and once discovered as a new variety, I guess they are propagated by cuttings. It was good - crisp and sweet. But, of the two, I think I prefer the Opal apples.
Sugar Bee is a new apple to me. M finds interesting things doesn't he?
ReplyDeleteI had a bag of Pink Lady apples last time and I wasn't that keen on them. They were a little too tart for me. I made a quick chutney with some of them and that turned out well. I buy whatever bag is on sale usually.
I am glad M will be able to fix the tiles. He is so handy to have around!
M does find some interesting fruits. Recently he mentioned a pink pineapple that is selling for something like $50 each! Obviously, not something I will be buying to try! LOL!
DeleteI, too, buy whatever is the cheapest apple on sale that particular week, Debra. This week, they had Gala, Fuji, and Granny Smith apples on sale with a digital coupon for $.89/lb. ($1.99/lb. without the coupon) and I bought some Gala apples (I still have some Granny Smith apples in the fridge). Apple chutney sounds good. I like to saute sliced tart apples in a bit of butter and some sugar, with or without cinnamon - the sugar caramelizes and sweetens the apple. It is good by itself or a scoop of ice cream!
M has done a temporary fix of the roof tiles because he didn't have all the materials needed. He also suggested I got some water sealant, so that's on my shopping list.
I forgot to mention your gas bill. You've done so well! Isn't it amazing that just a few days of higher usage jumps it up so much?
ReplyDeleteThank you, Debra; yes, it is amazing how quickly that gas bill can increase! I've had to keep the heat on a bit high, this weekend and I have a feeling I'll be looking at another $300+ bill at the end of the month! In the meantime, M texted me a copy of his gas bill - he has a $22 credit! LOL!
