Today, I picked up the grocery order I had put in, yesterday.
I bought:
3 bananas @ $.69/lb. (price increased by $0.4/lb.) = $1.16
1 papaya @ $.99/lb. = $5.24
4 mangos@$1 = $4.00
2 cucumbers @$1.19 (price increased by $0.20@) = $2.38
1 iceberg lettuce (price increased by $0.30) = $1.79
1 bag (12 oz.) frozen green peas = $1.25
1 can 24 oz. pasta sauce = $1.50
1 doz. large eggs = $3.49
1 loaf (20 oz.) sandwich bread = $1.69
1 box (8 count) hot cocoa mix = $2.29 (getting ready for cooler winter nights!)
2 packets chocolate wafers @$1 = $2.00
1 jar (16 oz.) dry roasted peanuts = $2.69
6 cans (14 oz) condensed milk @2.39 = $14.34 (stocking up)
1 frozen pizza (with digital coupon) = $3.99
Total = $47.81
October grocery budget = $100 (+ $41.56 leftover from September) = $141.56
Balance left in the October budget = $141.56 - $47.81 = $93.75
Today's grocery pick up went well and I am off to a good start with October's grocery shopping.
I am grateful for:
- Being able to order groceries online
- Being able to pick up groceries, curbside, free of charge
- Groceries are available, even if some prices have increased
- Friendly store personnel (yes, Jennifer was there and we chatted a bit)
- A safe drive to the store and back
Have you done any grocery shopping yet in October?
I wondered if you saw Jennifer and was glad to see at the end of the post you mentioned her. Have you told her that she has a following on your blog? :)
ReplyDeleteJennifer is a sweetheart! No, she doesn't know that I blog or that I've mentioned her! Maybe I will, the next time I see her! :D I have been asked to bring her something chocolaty that I've baked! :D
DeleteYou are so disciplined in your shopping. I too often succumb to 'deals' that I pick up when I am shopping in store. You are doing a GREAT job. xo Diana
ReplyDeleteThank you, Diana. I used to pick up deals, too, when I shopped in person, especially on the clearance racks! Also, the store used to have "unadvertised specials" which were often good deals! I am also finding that a lot of the sale items being offered now are for in-store shopping and delivery, only; they are not available for curb-side pick-up!
DeleteI've written the list for my food shopping and will get it done one day next week. I also need to shop to stock up on toiletries and cleaning products this time as well so it's going to be an expensive month, but it's all budgeted for thankfully.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you have it all planned and organized, Eileen. Yes, toiletries and cleaning products can be expensive, especially if you are stocking up, but, you've budgeted for it, so, it should be fine. :)
DeleteThat's great that you got all stocked up on groceries. It's such a secure feeling to have a full fridge.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Stephenie. I try to stay stocked up because you just know that things are going to go up in price and it will cost more to replenish the stock later on. :)
DeleteYou still have a healthy budget left for the remainder of the month. I have started to call at the supermarket for a few things instead of having to reach the minimum spend on my home grocery delivery but find I am impulse buying so maybe not such a good idea after all :)
ReplyDeleteImpulse buying can be hazardous to your budget! Unless it is an item you have been wanting, such as the toaster. :) Yes, I have most of the budget for the month left and will probably use it the next time I want to buy some meat! :)
DeleteYou are really doing well sticking to your budget especially considering all the price increases. You are set up to finish the year nicely.
ReplyDeleteThe notes on the price increases were interesting.
It's really shocking how much things have gone up in a relatively short period of time. And it doesn't seem to be leveling off either.
Although eggs have come down in the last few months at my Aldi's.
Was your condensed milk a good price?
Thank you, Debra. I think I'll be able to splurge a bit, over Thanksgiving, etc., when my daughter visits. :)
DeleteThe price increases are likely to stay with us for a good long time, I think. I do understand the reasons for them, but, that doesn't make things any easier, does it?
The condensed milk, store brand, was the current regular price. Back in May of this year, the price was $1.79/can. But, the next time I purchased condensed milk, which was in mid-July, the price had increased to $2.39! An increase of $.60 per can! Even so, it is the cheapest price for condensed milk at this store (where they offer free pick up) and I wanted to stock up before it goes up in price! I use a teaspoon of it in my tea; I prefer it to regular milk and I don't have to worry about the milk going off before my next grocery shopping order gets put in. A can will last me about 10 days.
I am now waiting for a sale on butter to stock up, but, I don't think we'll see butter at $3/lb., again!
