Monday

Monday's Harvest!

I picked five peapods from the garden, this afternoon!

Pea Plants

There are 12 pea plants, some are snow peas and the others are snap peas, but, I'm just picking them while they are still tender pods to add to a stir fry!  I left three or four small peapods on the vines to grow a little bigger before picking them.

Today, cousin P called me, twice in the morning.  She asked me to come over as she had something to give me.  Although I've said I didn't need anything, I went over, anyway, and collected the blouse, bed sheet, and hat she had to give me.  I don't need them, but, I guess the donations pick up people have been to her house already and collected whatever items she had to give and these are items she was unable to give them.  Rather than trash them, she decided to give them to me to be dealt with as I pleased.

After I came home, I started on the laundry ("Wash on Monday").  I washed and dried the blouse and the sheet (and pillowcases) that P had given me, along with the rest of my laundry; I think I will add the items she gave me to the donations pile so someone who needs them more can have them (my donations will be picked up on the 22nd).  I have also decided that, starting in the new year, I will implement a one in/one out system.

In between loads of laundry (I did four loads, today, including the sofa dust covers), I watered the newly planted vegetable plants in the garden and took some photos of the garden for a later post, took the trash cans to the curb for pick up in the morning, did dishes, watered the houseplants, and did a little tidying up.  I also did a little bit of embroidery on a gift that I am making and wrapped up a few gifts.  Later in the evening, I called friend R and checked on her.

Today, I am grateful for:

- The peapod harvest
- Time spent in the garden
- Working appliances
- My stash of embroidery thread
- Having my daughter home for the holidays

Today's joyful activity was making another holiday gift.

Plans for tomorrow include tidying up the family room and making some preparations for Christmas.

How was your Monday?  What are your plans for Tuesday?

  1. How lovely to be able to pick fresh peas from your garden. You're helping your cousin even if you go on to pass on those items yourself. I just have to make a list today to make sure we have all the fresh food we need for Christmas. I need to do small loads of laundry and iron some bedding, I actually feel quite organised now.

    1. The joy of having a garden is being able to pick a few things from time to time. :) Yes, at this point, the important thing as far as my cousin is concerned, is to get the items out of the house so she can give up the house on the 27th. She is, quite understandably, overwhelmed!
Well done on being organized with the Christmas preparations. It helps to write it all down, isn't it? Tilly's first Christmas - hope Santa has an especially yummy treat for her! :D

  2. Your peas have grown nicely. And, I am sure, your harvest is only a small sign of the coming times :)
That is funny that cousin P had you come over to get those last straggly things. Does she live far from you? How did it seem at her house? How are her preparing to move efforts going? What a chore moving is.

I made an Italian soup called Ribollita yesterday which is basically like a minestrone but different. lol
It was very good and will last a few days which is always nice.

    1. The peas seem to be growing well and haven't been pecked at by the mourning doves! I am also very glad that the bunnies haven't been around to nibble them, either! I actually haven't seen any of the bunnies in a long time - I wonder if someone picked them up and took them home!
P lives across the street from me, two doors down. The house is more or less empty, except for the beds and a few boxes that will be the last items to be removed.
It's definitely soup weather, isn't it? I have been thinking of making a ham and split pea soup - I've never made one, before!

  3. We have certain people (mostly relatives) that we take anything they want to give us to help them declutter. Then we usually donate them. If the item seems really important to them, we mention that it might get donated. Otherwise, we add it to our pile. From some people, it's just easier to give things to other people than to throw them away or donate them, for both practical and emotional reasons.

    1. It's a good strategy to employ when helping someone declutter, June. Yes, often, we'd rather give things to people we know than throw away or even donate. Today, I was called and told there was a pair of pants...

  4. Your peas look so green and healthy. I did laundry yesterday, too. It feels so satisfying to have clean flannel sheets and a fresh nightgown. Today I will wash the towels.

    1. Thank you, Stephenie I am hoping the vines will produce more peas as they grow. Snow peas are a favorite of mine and they are so expensive at the store! Yes, there's nothing quite as nice as freshly laundered sheets and fluffy towels, are there?

  5. P is determined that you will have something! Well done for putting it all straight to donations and good luck with your one in/one out approach for next year.

It sounds like you've have a productive day and a pea harvest as well ... a good day all round!

    1. Yes, P is determined...today she called to let me know that there was a pair of pants, but, I politely declined! Thank you, I am hoping that the one in/one out will help keep a lid on things! Yes, yesterday was a good day! This morning has been quite productive, too. :)

  6. I like the photo of Alfie, Bertie, Carol, Doug and Ellie! (They seemed to be crying out for names). Your plants look healthy and peas in the pod are so good when they are still tender.
Well, I guess you hadn't bargained for more "stuff" coming your way but at least your donations haven't been picked up yet, so the items from P won't hang around too long. You have certainly been busy with many things.

Our tree is now decorated and the lights hooked up to the same special plug-in that. came with our electric wood stove. One click of the remote, and all is bright. It certainly saves grubbing around under the tree to plug into the outlet each time we want the lights on or off. No needles in the hair either!

    1. Oh, I do like your names for the peapods! :D I love both green peas and tender peapods.
There's always stuff coming in! I seem to be a magnet for them! But, yes, donations are being pick up, tomorrow (had a call from them, this morning, to remind me!). I will continue with the decluttering, though, and hope to have enough for another pick up by March or sooner.

Oh, I like how you've planned the tree lighting to come on and go off with a touch of the remote! Very nice! :)

  7. I've thought about the one in one out, but I'm not sure it's obtainable for me at this point. I know I want to do some more sorting and decluttering so I might make a goal of sorting so much or getting rid of so many things a week.

    1. I don't know how successful I'll be, either, but, I figured it would be worth a try. Having a goal of x number of items sorted and decluttered is good. That's what I am doing currently, with a goal of 1 item a day (or 7 per week/30 per month, etc.) At one time, I did 10 items a day, but, that was hard to keep up!

  8. I don't even know what Armenian cookies taste like, but now I want some!
We are still harvesting bell peppers, but I think the one today will be the last. It is way too early for anything thing else here, but cool weather crop planting will start before long.
