Rainy Monday

Christmas Card Version 1

Version 2

I made two versions of this card layout; I know both cards were received so I can post pictures, now.  The Santa Claus/Father Christmas stickers came from the same sheets of stickers as the holiday bears I used on another card:

Card with Bear Stickers

Today has been another rainy day.  I felt that my sinuses were a bit inflamed, although I didn't have a fever.  I took it easy and rested.  I guess I've been doing a bit too much, these past few days, and going to the family gathering on Saturday probably didn't help!  But, I did enjoy myself on Saturday and my cousins all seemed to like the gifts I gave them:

Homemade Jam, Festive Spoon,
Hot Pad, and Cross Stitched Kitchen Towel

Jam from the fruits in my garden, the spoons from a set I had bought some time ago, hot pads sewn with fabric in the stash, and the kitchen towels were a set of plain towels I had in my stash which I cross stitched.

I spent the day resting and chatting with various family members.  Cousin P's daughter (who flew in from Florida, last night) brought over a bag of her clothes to give my daughter, with instructions to give away any that she didn't like.  We are definitely going to need more clothes hangers!  Although we have plans to sort through our closets, again!

Today, I am grateful for:

- Being able to spend the day relaxing
- Daughter being home to pamper me (she made our lunch and dinner)
- Hot cocoa
- More rain for the garden
- Phone calls with family and friends

Today's joyful activity was chatting with family and friends.

No firm plans for tomorrow.  All will depend on how well and energetic I feel!

How was your Monday?  Any plans for Tuesday?

  1. It's nice to have a day of rest. Me too, I watched a film with hubby and I don't normally sit through the kind of films he likes but that one yesterday was OK :)

    1. I'm glad that you, too, had a day of rest, yesterday, Eileen, and enjoyed watching a film with your husband (I'm sure he appreciated you watching it with him!) :)

  2. Your hand made gifts are certainly thoughtful & beautifully made. Those little jam spoons are an added bonus. Shopping from someone else's closet is always a treat & easy on the pocket book (lol).

    1. Thank you, Mary-Lou. I used to buy things during the after Christmas sales and keep for future gifts; the set of spoons and the kitchen towels were such items. Last year I didn't go after Christmas shopping and won't be going this year, either. So, I am coming to the end of my gift stash, but, that's OK, too (fewer things to store!) Shopping from someone else's closet is lovely! I'm perfectly fine with that! :D

  3. The cards and gifts are very nice. I'm sure they are much appreciated.

The weather gets wetter and your sinuses bother you. The weather gets drier here with the cold and mine bother me. I guess our bodies are attuned to the weather they're used to.

    1. Thank you, June; I like to give homemade gifts. :)

It's a sunny day, today, and my sinuses are much happier! :D Do you have a humidifier? If so, maybe running it for a bit might help?

    2. We have a humidifier that keeps the house in pretty good shape. However, there's not one outside or at work.

    3. I see. I'm sorry there's no easy solution for that! :( It's not like you can walk around with a small mister in your hand the whole time, is it?! Would it be possible to keep a bowl of water at your desk at work? As the water evaporates, it might add a little bit of humidity to your work space.

  4. I hope that the inflamed sinus problem has resolved itself and isn't the start of anything nasty.

I couldn't help smiling when I read that your daughter was given a bag of clothes from P. One way or another she is determined to give them to you! Is cousin P flying back with her daughter and do you know who will be moving into her house? I hope the new neighbours are quiet for your sake.

I don't have any plans to go out. I'm having a quiet day to recover from a migraine and am looking online to buy some new clothes ... not having a lot of luck though.

    1. The sinuses are much better, today, thank you, Eileen; it's not raining, today! :D I was worried that it might have been related to the dreaded virus!

Ha, ha, yes, P asked me if I'd mind if her daughter's clothes were given to my daughter and I said it was OK. The moving van was picking up all their boxes, yesterday, and I guess they only contracted for a certain number of boxes. Now, I am looking for a new home for their 3-legged black cat! I'd take her, but, Dancer won't like it and do I really want another litter box to clean?

P will fly back with her daughter, in the new year. I don't know who bought the house, though. Hopefully, someone nice who likes to cook and share! :D

I think quiet, restful days are much needed. Hope you'll eventually have some luck with ordering the clothes you want. :)

    1. Thank you, Anne. I had just enough jars of jam to give, this year! Might have to make a bigger batch, next year! :D

  6. I'm glad you have been resting. The run up to Christmas can be exhausting in many ways. The gift set looks very attractive. Your wardrobes must be bulging again after all your efforts to declutter! But new-to-you clothes are always fun and you can sort through your clothes at leisure now.
I was extremely lazy yesterday. We woke up late today, but I had remembered to soak some beans overnight and I have them cooking now in the crockpot. I don't know how well this will work but they can always go into a pot in the oven if I'm not happy with them. Our favourite, generic, fairly low salt commercial beans disappeared from the shelves a couple of months ago and I used up our last can from the pantry a week ago, so it was time to try out a recipe.

    1. Thank you, Bushlady. I had a totally relaxed day, yesterday, and woke up feeling much better, today. My closet is quite full, again! But I now have some new clothes to wear to gatherings.

I hope your homecooked beans turn out well. Canned beans are convenient to have on hand, but, dried beans are cheaper and easier to store!

  7. I'm sure your gifts were well received.
I love the picture you included of the things you gave. (Cute spoon!)
I'd forgotten that you made the hot pads, potholder thingies with Christmas patchwork. And your cross stichiing on the dishtowels decorates a regular utilitarian item nicely. What a good idea.

I remember your mentioning your Christmas budget for gifts and knowing how many gifts you buy I marveled at how you were able to have such a low budget.
You've given us a great example of doing so all year as you made things and tucked them away.

    1. Thank you, Debra. Yes, I do challenge myself every year to come up with gifts that will help me stay within budget. LOTS of homemade items and mostly token gifts. Sometimes, I make next year's gifts as soon as I have finished making this year's gifts! LOL.

  8. Make sure you rest up. It can be so easy to overdo things at this busy time of year.
Your gifts are lovely and I expect they were well received. I especially like the jam with the spoon. X

  9. Yes, I'm trying to pace myself. Thank you, Jules; the jams were well received and people seem to like the little spoons. :)
