Sunny Friday

Holiday Joy Card

A sunny day, on Friday, and warmer with a high of 65F.

Yesterday, there were a few calls and texts between cousin V and myself because V and another cousin couldn't get through to cousin P who was, apparently, not answering her phone!  (Yes, she's the one who is selling her house and moving out of state.)  I called P and left a message.  This morning, I called P, again, and left her another couple of messages, on her cell phone and on her landline.  Later, P called and we chatted for a bit.  Afterwards, I texted V to let her know that I had spoken with P.  We have our reasons for being so concerned about P.

Later, I made a few more holiday greeting cards.  Some of my cards are fully handmade; others, have a little help in the form of pictures cut from old greeting cards or stickers!  The wreath in the center of the card shown above was taken from an old card!  Is that cheating?  Can I consider it as reusing/recycling?

In the evening, M tended to the garden.  He is concentrating on pruning the fruit trees and some of the other shrubs in the garden.  There's a lot to clean up and tidy!

Later in the evening, friend A's daughter called.  Friend A is back in the hospital due to a recurring infection.  Tomorrow's visit will not take place as planned.  I hope we'll be able to visit her, later.

My order of gift bags and tissue paper was delivered, today, as well as a couple of gifts I had ordered.  A few more gifts were also ordered online, to be shipped directly as they are going to family members who live in other states.

Today, I am grateful for:
- A sunny and warmer day
- Chatting with family and friends
- M tending to the garden
- Being able to order gifts online
- Good health

Today's joyful activity was making more cards.

Plans for tomorrow include making the last few cards I need to make and then, wrapping up gifts!

How was your Friday?  What are your plans for the weekend?

  1. A relief for you to hear from our cousin P, what a worry for you and your other cousins. I don't consider your card making / recycling as cheating as it's good to do something like that rather than just writing new, shop bought cards. I have to go and buy a few grocery items today as I don't expect I'll be able to secure an online shopping slot this week.

    1. Yes, I was glad that P called! Thank you for being so kind about my card making attempts! I enjoy the process and I'm using up items I have on hand! Oh, I hope you will be able to get an online shopping slot, this week! Do the grocery stores there offer curbside pick-up? If so, maybe you can opt for that instead of a delivery? But, if you have to go in person and shop for groceries, then, I hope you will be able to do that quickly and safely, Eileen.

  2. It's definitely not cheating to use parts of other cards. I think it's smart and I'm sure the people who receive your lovely cards don't mind either. I'm glad you were able to speak with P. I find it very worrisome when I can't get in contact with someone when I think I should be able to.

    1. Thank you, June. I don't have any die cuts, etc., that I've seen some people use for their card making, so, I am improvising, here! Using up papers from my scrapbooking stash and recycling bits from cards I've received in the past.
I was happy to hear from P; if not, I would have contacted her daughter. She called me this morning, too, and we chatted. We usually chat at least once a day! :D

  3. Good to hear that you were able to speak to P in the end. You must have been worried that she initially wasn't responding as you say that you have cause for concern. I hope she is okay. The same for your friend A ... wishing her a speedy recovery and hope she is well enough to be home with her family for Christmas.

I'm glad your order of gift bags arrived and that you have been enjoying a crafty time making some of your own cards. Hope the rest of your preparations for the big day go smoothly. x

    1. Thank you, Eileen; P called me again, today (we usually chat, daily), so, I know all is well with her. We've texted A's daughter to find out how A is doing, but, haven't heard back, yet.

I'm having too much fun crafting! I've made just about all the cards I need - just a couple more and I'll be able to tidy up and put things away! Don't really have a lot of additional preparations for the big day! Need to put in an order of groceries and that will be that! :)

  4. I'm so glad you were finally able to contact your cousin, and also let your other cousins know that she is alright. Your card is great and recycling parts of other cards makes a lot of sense. I still think handcrafted cards are the best!
I bought more tissue paper yesterday and then while wrapping gifts I discovered some that I already had, so I am well supplied now,

    1. Thank you, Bushlady. :) P called me this morning, too; we usually talk daily! I am having a lot of fun creating my cards. Sometimes, they turn out well; other times, they show that they were made by someone who doesn't know what she's doing! :D
Yay for finding more tissue paper! It's good to have a few extra on hand! :)

  5. That's a very pretty card that you made. I think it's very creative and smart and just plain fun to cut out and make things from other things.

I'm glad your cousin P is alright and that you were able to speak with her and reassure your other family members.

I'm sure your yard will look nice once M is done with all the pruning.

    1. Thank you, Debra. I'm having a lot of fun making the cards.

P called me this morning, too, and she said she's spoken with the other cousins, as well. She knows we are all very concerned about her.

M is clearing out a lot of the overgrown areas to open up the garden for more light and air. We can't have the garden get too shady because the fruit trees need a lot of sun. I'll do a garden post, before the end of the year. :)

  6. There is no such thing as cheating when fabricating cards! Sometimes when I make them I use all sort of "found things". I even "made' some gift bags that were regular brown craft paper bags with the stores name printed on the front of the bag. A snowman or Christmas tree cut from an old card and strategically glued over the logo fixed that!

    1. Thank you, Anne. Yes, I've repurposed regular store bags, with cards glued to cover the store name/logo, myself! Creative re-use! :D

  7. Your card is lovely, and it is definitely repurposing, not cheating at all. X

    1. Thank you, Jules. Some greeting cards are too pretty to just toss after the holidays are over, aren't they? I cut some to use as gift tags, too!

  8. Pretty card! I'm pleased you were able to get hold of cousin P. It is worrisome when you can't get hold of someone!
