Relaxing on Saturday

Today was the 15th annual Free Museum Day, here, in southern California.  Over 40 area museums and botanical gardens offered free admission to their general exhibits (paid tickets were required for certain special exhibits).  Friend R and I had discussed taking advantage of the free admissions and going to perhaps a museum or a botanical garden.  But, every venue I checked out online had something to say about the higher than usual numbers of visitors expected to attend and potential difficulties with finding parking.  I don't like to visit places when they are too crowded, so R and I decided we'll visit the museums on another day!  There are several museums that offer free admission, either every day (the Getty Center, for example, offers free admission, daily, but, one has to pay for parking) or on various days of the month (such as the Autry museum that is free on every second Tuesday of the month).  I suppose I could have made the effort and gone, but, I was in the mood for a quiet, relaxed day at home!

I had gone to bed rather late, last night (4:30 a.m.; maybe I should say "early this morning", instead?).  I turned the alarm off when it rang at 9:00 a.m. and slept until almost 11:00 a.m.!  After a cup of tea and replying to blog comments, I made milk rice for brunch and had it with spicy onion sambol and pork curry.

Then, I practiced the piano.  First, I played the pieces I am learning in my book and then, I took out one of my daughter's beginner books and played through all the pieces in that book for a bit of variety.

Later in the afternoon, I fitted a few more pieces in the jigsaw puzzle.  My helper was taking an afternoon nap, so I had to manage on my own!

Then, it was time for a cup of tea with a slice of bread and butter, while I watched the evening news.

Cousin P called in the evening and we had a long chat about various things.

Dinner was a salad, but, I'll probably have a snack before I go to sleep.  Some cereal, maybe.

Today, I am grateful for:
- A relaxed day
- Being able to sleep in
- Fresh lemons from the garden
- Learning new things
- Video chatting with my daughter

Today's joyful activity was doing the jigsaw puzzle.

Plans for tomorrow include going to the pharmacy to pick up a prescription refill that is ready and maybe a bit of grocery shopping.

How was your Saturday?  What are your plans for Sunday?

  1. Are you remembering to practice slowly? Just checking!!

Saturday was tied up with sorting out the band stuff and Sunday (today) will be more of the same. I hope to get it all finished today ready to hand over next week.

    1. Ha, ha, thanks for the reminder, Eileen! :D Slowly, legato, keep the fingers curved; so much to remember! :)

Sounds like a busy weekend, but you'll breathe a sigh of relief when it is all done and the band stuff is gone! Hope you have a good week ahead of you.

  2. Wondering how one uses, a lot of lemons......?

A person on IG, got a gift package of lemons, from a friend in CA. Also wondering, what she will do with them... Although she is an amazing cook/baker so I'm sure she has plans.

    1. One makes a lot of lemonade, Wisps of Words. :) Sometimes, I juice a lot of the lemons and freeze the juice in ice cube trays to use later, when there are no fresh lemons. Sometimes, I make lemon marmalade. Sometimes, I pick bags of lemons and give them to people - the staff at the doctor's office, the staff at the pharmacy, etc., or take them to the temple so that people can take some. Share the bounty, so to speak. :)

  3. When I worked at the children’s museum, that we called “Museum District Day” and was in September. It was a mandatory work day for everyone, and it was rough!

    1. I am sure it was a very busy day! It's nice that they have free days to encourage attendance, though.

  4. Good choice to stay home and save museum visiting for less crowded days. It is all too easy to have fear of missing out (FOMO) and end up joining the herd! It seems Dancer was also in favour of a relaxed day and even gave you a chance to fit some pieces in the jigsaw puzzle unaided.
We had a lot of wet snow that clung to branches and bent them down. Woke up to a spectacular scene and it was still snowing, but DH drove the car out to the road for me and I was able to get it back up the driveway and safely into the garage after church. Then our plow man came and cleared for us. In the meantime the power was off when I got back and it was off for nearly 4 hours. Thanks to the generator we had our coffee with our sandwich lunch. Winter keeps life interesting!

    1. Yes, especially with the winter flu season still in effect, etc., it is probably better for me to avoid crowds, if I can.

I am sure you are glad to have that generator to provide you with some power when the electricity is out. A cup of hot coffee is just the thing on a snowy, cold day. Stay warm and, hopefully, the power stays on. :)

  5. I don't like crowds either. Now that you're retired you can probably fit some of the other free times into your schedule. Have fun making plans.

    1. Yes, I need to make a list of the museums and their free days and plan a couple of activities. I am turning into a bit of a hermit, otherwise! :D

  6. Quiet, relaxed days at home are the best!
On Saturday I did yard work. Today it was too cold for me to be outside, so I cooked and read. :)

    1. They really are the best, Nil. I am happy when I go out and do some fun things, but, I am happiest when I am at home, just relaxing!

Sounds like you had a good weekend, doing gardening, cooking, and reading. Did you make the sauteed green beans?
