Completed Jigsaw Puzzle (minus five pieces!) |
Another rather cloudy day, although there was a little sunshine in the early afternoon. I decided to have a quiet day at home. I watched the Senate impeachment proceedings (had it going on in the background, all day), made a phone call and scheduled an appointment, called cousin P to check on her, brought in the trash can, cooked the rest of the canned corned beef with onions and tomatoes, cooked a pot of rice, too, did the day's dishes, and completed one of the jigsaw puzzles I received for Christmas! Doing a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle was challenging enough, but doing it with five pieces missing made it that much more challenging! I have no idea what happened to the five missing pieces, but, I rather suspect my "helper" kitty might have something to do with their disappearance! I looked under the table, but, didn't find any missing pieces.
Today, I am grateful for:
- The earthquake wasn't a big one
- No damages from it as far as I know
- A quiet, restful day at home
- A working heater
- Being able to watch the Senate hearings
Today's joyful activity was finishing the jigsaw puzzle.
Plans for tomorrow include putting gas to the car (since I didn't do that, today) and grocery shopping.
How was your Tuesday? What are your plans for Wednesday? Do you get earthquakes where you live?
An earthquake? Wow! I've half finished my Scottish jigsaw. I'm hoping that none of the pieces have gone into the vacuum cleaner. So frustrating to get to the end, and find pieces missing
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't a big earthquake and I am hoping that a bigger one doesn't follow! I'm hoping, too, that I'll be able to find the missing puzzle pieces! Good luck with your puzzle!
DeleteWow, an earthquake! In here we don't have them at all, thank God! I would be so scared. The puzzles look so cute, have a lovely day☺
ReplyDeleteIt was a relatively small earthquake, but, there is always the worry that a bigger one might follow! Thank you; I will break up the puzzle and put it away until next Christmas. Hope you and your baby are doing well.
DeleteSuch a relief it was only a small earthquake. There must always be that moment of panic, however.
ReplyDeleteI hope your jigsaw pieces turn up. It's a shame for it not to be completely finished after all your hard work. X
Yes, there is always that initial moment of panic, wondering if this is the Big One we are told to expect!
DeleteI managed to find 2 more pieces, under a piece of furniture, this morning. I hope I'll find the rest, eventually.
I didn't feel that earthquake. I've grown up with them, being a California native. I am impressed with your jigsaw puzzle capabilities.
ReplyDeleteI wondered if you felt it. I have a cousin in Granada Hills and she said she felt it quite a bit, but, she didn't have any damage. Her house was badly damaged in the Northridge earthquake.
DeleteThank you! I enjoy doing puzzles. :)
"The fire department has resumed normal operations.
ReplyDelete“We ask you to use (this) quake as a reminder to be prepared,” Prange said."
Tell me.... How do you "be prepared"?
-sigh-
LOL, there are actually quite a few steps one can take to be prepared in case of an earthquake. I have done a couple of posts about it, but, maybe I'll do another one.
DeleteOne way to prepare is to do earthquake retrofitting and make sure the house is bolted to the foundation. Another way to prepare is make sure things like tall pieces of furniture are bolted to the wall and the water heater is strapped to an outside wall. There are hooks one can fix to kitchen cabinets to prevent them for opening for the shaking and disgorging their contents/minimize breakage of glass and china, etc.
I have emergency supplies of adequate food and water for at least three days, flashlights and batteries, and various other supplies. I sleep with a flashlight and a hard hat near my pillow and a pair of sturdy shoes near my bed, I keep my car gas tank at least half full at all times (gas pumps don't work if the electricity goes off), some emergency cash (again, ATMs and credit card machines don't work without electricity), a way to cook my food without electricity or gas, etc.
And of course, the "duck, cover, and hold" - in an earthquake, one is supposed to duck under a sturdy piece of furniture such as a table, take cover from falling debris, and hold on to the table so that it doesn't move away from you, until the shaking has stopped.
My earthquake preparations are not 100% complete, but, it is a good reminder to check my supplies and fill in some blanks. :)
Thank you!
DeleteHave you lived with this fear, all your life?
Do you "get used to it," perhaps?
Gentle hugs...
LOL, no, only since I moved to California! :D But, that was more than 40 years ago, so, I guess one could say that I've lived with the threat of earthquakes for a good portion of my life! I guess one dues get sort of used to it - we just accept it as a fact of life, just as some people in other states know that hurricanes and tornadoes are a fact of life. :)
DeleteLove puzzles.
ReplyDeleteI do, too, Regine. :)
DeleteI'm glad it was a small earthquake.
ReplyDeleteThe jigsaw puzzle is very colorful. Are you going to frame it?
Me, too, Nil!
DeleteI broke up the puzzle and put all the pieces back in the box! I plan to make it, again, at Christmas! Or, maybe, I'll give it to my friend who likes to do puzzles (I found the missing pieces under a piece of furniture, this morning!)
I don't think my nerves are steady enough to live in an earthquake prone area--always waiting for the "big one". Is quakes always on your mind or are you able to put the thought away most of the time?
ReplyDeleteThey are at the back of my mind, Live and Learn; at least, every night, when I say my nightly devotions, I pray that there won't be any big earthquakes! Otherwise, I don't worry too much about them!
DeleteI hope you don't get any further earthquakes. Thank goodness it was not a big one, although even the smaller ones can sometimes be a problem. There was a similar magnitude one in the St. Lawrence Valley fault system not too long ago but nowhere near us. We have sometimes felt distant shocks due to being on sand, but they are very much rarer here than where you live.
ReplyDeleteThat Dancer needs to help look for the rest of the missing pieces. It's a lovely puzzle and it must be frustrating to have the gaps.
I'd be quite happy if there won't be another earthquake, Bushlady. :)
DeleteLOL, I found the missing puzzle pieces, this morning, without any help from Dancer! They were under a piece of furniture - I guess he chased them, under there!
Congrats on your puzzle completion! Sorry about your earthquake...glad it wasn't worse and you are fine! Andrea
ReplyDeleteThank you, Andrea. Yes, I am fine. Very glad it wasn't worse! :)
DeleteHope you’re ok.
ReplyDeleteYes, I am, thank you, Akasha. It wasn't a big quake, thank goodness! :)
