Arizona State Quarter |
Back in June of last year, I wrote a blog post about searching for the Arizona state commemorative coin. At the time, it was the only coin that I was missing from the series of 50 state quarters. Well, yesterday, when I was cleaning my bedside table/nightstand, I found my Arizona state quarter!
Coin in place! |
This morning, I took the time to put the coin in its slot on the display map! Now my collection is complete!
Collection Completed! |
So, what do I do with it now? That is the question! I could keep the collection, as is, for posterity. Or, I could ask my friend R if she'd like to have it to send to one of her grand children (I believe she started to collect the state quarters, too, at the beginning; I don't know if she completed her collection or not). Or, I could ask my friend S's husband if he'd like to have it, as I believe he likes to collect coins (he's the same one I gave my stamp collection to). Or, should I just spend the money I've collected and toss/donate the map? I asked my daughter what I should do now and she said I should bask in the glow of accomplishment! LOL!
What would you do, if you had a collection of state coins? Would you keep it? Would you give it away? Would you take the coins out and spend them and, perhaps, donate or toss the map? What do you think I should do?
I'm not sure what I'd do with them if it were me. Probably stick it in a drawer and find it years later, LOL. I say either take the coins and spend them (buy a bouquet of spring flowers at the grocery store) or give them to someone who collects.
ReplyDeleteI would rather give it to someone who collects, I think, but, my daughter said to keep it for her! I think she plans to spend the money, one day; I told her that she could look on it as an emergency fund! :D
DeleteYay! I remember you needed that one coin to finish your collection. You looked so long for it, it would be a shame to dismantle it right away. I agree with your daughter. You need to bask in the glory of accomplishment for a little while at least.
ReplyDeleteYes, indeed! I'm basking! :) My daughter said to keep it for her! I told her I didn't think she'd be interested, but she said she could at least use the money! LOL! It's going to be her "emergency fund", all $12.75 of it! :D I told her that it's her dowry! Ha, ha!
DeleteI have a set of quarters for Canadian provinces and territories from a particular year way back, and I sometimes have to stop myself from saving fancy quarters as I really don't need to collect them. But some of them I hang onto for a while, especially if they have a coloured insert of something like a poppy or blue flower. Enjoy your map, it is really impressive. Like everything else you own, you will know when it seems right to pass it on, so no hurry.
ReplyDeleteCoins with colored inserts? I don't think I've ever seen any like that! My daughter has requested I keep the collection for her, so I will. These are not pristine, uncirculated coins, so their collection value isn't much. But, the box with the filled in map doesn't take up a lot of space, so it will stay for awhile, at least.
DeleteCongratulations on completing your collection. If you decide to spend the money, check each coin first - some of the earlier ones had errors and are worth more than their face value to collectors.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Eileen. I shall definitely check the coins to see if they are special ones! I've heard that some people collect pennies as an investment because the value of the copper in them is worth more than the value of the coin! I used to collect pennies, at one time, just for fun, not as an investment, but maybe it's worth something too!
DeleteCertainly bask for a while and enjoy the achievement. Set a date for the future - maybe 6 months - as the day of reconsideration. Then you can spend it, gift it or do whatever. The best of both worlds!
ReplyDeleteYes, that's a good suggestion. My daughter has asked me to keep it for her, but, maybe in 6 months or one year, I will ask her again, if she still wants me to keep it for her. :)
DeleteCongratulations on completing the collection, Bless.
ReplyDeleteI'd keep it for a while, and then decide what to do. I think it's better to give it to someone who collects coins than spending it. :)
Thank you, Nil. Yes, I, too, think it will mean more to someone who collects coins as a collector would see it as something more than just $12.50 worth of coins! For now, though, I am keeping it. :)
