After all that, it was around 2:00 p.m. and I was getting hungry (all I had in the morning was a cup of tea, with milk and sugar, which I consider as my breakfast, anyway). I warmed up a bowl of my "cheater's" vegetable soup and had that for lunch. There is enough left for one more serving. Not bad for a $.50 can of chicken broth and a $.50 can of mixed vegetables!
After lunch, I changed out of my sweats and got dressed:

I love lounging around in my sweats as they are so comfortable and warm, but, lounge around is all I feel like doing when I am wearing them! I changed out of them and into a pair of jeans and a sweater I knitted way back in the mid 1980s. It is still one of my favorite sweaters.
Remember back in August of last year, when I cleared my desk and it looked like this?
August 2018 Cleaned Desk |
Messy Desk! |
So, what is all this mess? There's an on-going knitting project in the blue tote bag, the Olive Garden bag has files to be sorted through, and the boxes under the table have fabric and more papers, and another craft project. I have the best of intentions to keep things tidy, but, stuff clutter my flat surfaces until it almost overwhelms, me. As I mentioned to one of my close friends, yesterday, sometimes, I look at it and feel like crying.
I'd like to say that I took care of every piece of paper, but I didn't. What I did do was take the knitting and fabric and craft projects to the spare bedroom, where they belong. And, I gave myself permission to move the bags of files and papers, too, to the spare room, until I can go through them. They do not need to be stored here, where this desk is, in my bedroom! Then, I sorted through all the rest of the papers and did some filing. I shred (well, tore up, actually, since I don't have a shredder, other than Dancer!) enough papers to fill a grocery bag!
It took me nearly two hours to clear the desk and do the paperwork. In between, I cleaned the smaller bathroom (daughter's/visitor's) and, since I had the toilet cleaner out, I scrubbed my toilet, too. And I vacuumed my bedroom, again, as there was dust under the desk.
This is how the desk looked when I finished:
After Cleaning March 2019 |
After that, I was ready for a cup of tea and an egg salad sandwich. Then, I watched the evening news and knitted. Both aunts T and C called in the evening and cousin P; I also exchanged messages with cousin P's daughter about an upcoming family event.
Dinner was half of the salmon steak (no, it's not a chicken drumstick, although that's what it looks like!) and some of the asparagus. I cooked all the asparagus tips, so, tomorrow's dinner is in the fridge - the other half of the salmon and the rest of the asparagus.
Dinner: Salmon and Asparagus |
Afterwards, I had yogurt with a little palm treacle for dessert.
Daughter and I video chatted later in the evening. She was happy to say, "I told you so" when I informed her that I figured out how to post the follow button! LOL.
I washed the dishes and wiped the kitchen counters, but I was too tired to sweep and mop the floor.
Today, I am grateful for:
- I figured out how to add the "follow" button to my blog!
- More rain for the garden
- Keeping in touch with family and friends
- What I was able to accomplish today
- A working heater
Wednesday's To Do List:

- 30 mins to 1 hr. of tidying in the 3rd bedroom - NOT DONE (dumped more stuff in there, instead!)

Thursday's To Do List:

It is supposed to be another rainy day, tomorrow. I am looking forwards to a productive day.
How was your day, today? Do you have cluttered flat surfaces, too? How well can you keep them cleared after you've tidied them?
Ooooooh, I like that sweater too. Love the pattern. Getting dressed for work must have helped you jump start your day, because you sure got a lot accomplished. As soon as I opened your blog post I saw your sidebar with followers and I knew right away that my blog did not have that. I have a "follow me by email" button, but people have told me it doesn't work. So now I have followed your example and figured out how to add a "follow me" button. Now perhaps that will help people to find out when I post. We will see. Of course most of my family have now bookmarked my page and go in periodically to see what is new in my life. In the past, that is what I did to find your posts, until I added your blog to my sidebar as "bloggers I follow". Now it is easy to follow you.
ReplyDeleteFantastic before and after pictures. That is very motivating. I should try to do more of those. Your desk area looks fantastic and very inviting to sit down and get things accomplished.
Thank you, Susan. I debated whether to post the before picture, because, well, I am exposing my vulnerable underbelly when I do that, aren't I? Showing my shortcomings to all the world to see! Up until now, I have done that only with a select few people in a private group whom I've known for years and who have their own messy spots to deal with and are very non-judgmental, a couple of good friends, and a cousin or two who know better than to say anything! LOL! No doubt, that before photo is a bit like the sound of nails against a chalk board to some of my blog friends who are neat and tidy. But, I am hoping that sharing these candid photos will help someone else out there to know that they are not alone in their struggles to keep things neat. Just the photos of the cleared table or desk, taken immediately after cleaning, can be misleading!
DeleteI saw that you have added the follow button! Well done! LOL. I had wondered about the follow by email button, but I wasn't very sure if I wanted that or if there was a hidden fee involved, etc. I'm glad you told me that it doesn't work, sometimes. I need to reconfigure my gmail account before I sign up to follow anyone, because, when I went to follow you, it told me that my real name would be shown as it is linked to my gmail account. I am not sure if I want that, so, I will wait until I can figure out a way around that!
Congrats on getting the follow button on you blog. I'm with you daughter, you're a smart woman and do most anything you set your mind to.
ReplyDeleteThe pattern on your sweater is so delicate and pretty. Was it hard to knit?
Thank you, Live and Learn. I really need to dig deep down and rediscover that person who said, "Yes, I can" and went off half way around the world by herself at age 18 to face whatever it was that she had to face!
DeleteThe pattern on the sweater wasn't too hard. It's a pattern called "elfin lace" in my book of knitting patterns; multiples of 8 stitches plus 9 and 16 rows to the pattern; lots of yarn overs and slip two stitches and knit them together, to form the lace. I am generally fine with knitting lace until it gets to shaping armholes, etc., when you have to figure out the decreases while maintaining the pattern. My usual way of avoiding all that is to knit straight, a rectangle without any shaping, which results in dropped shoulders and a boat neck. :)
I am so glad I am not the only messy person in Blogworld. If my house is not messy I seem to be able/compelled to create one.
ReplyDeleteBTW I follow you and my only option on your button is to unfollow, but I do not appear as a follower, so I think your numbers are a little off.
Thank you, Anne. Yay, Messy Bloggers Unite! LOL! I am striving for an "everything in its place" type of home, but, even when things have a home (some of them don't!), I am not very good at returning them to their homes and they, apparently, don't know to return to their homes by themselves!
DeleteOh, I don't know why you don't show up as a follower, Anne. I have to figure out how to follow people without my real name showing up as it is linked to my gmail account! Until then, I am not following anyone! I've bookmarked all the blogs I like to read and check on them regularly. But, maybe I can figure out how to lists the blogs I regularly read on the side bar - in my next foray into blogger to customize my layout!
I unfollowed then clicked to follow again and now I am there. I love the simple method that works for my inner technidiot.
DeleteYay! You figured out how to do it! LOL! Welcome back!
DeleteIf blogging seems more appealing than cleaning (and why wouldn't it?) then blog! No-one ever died wishing they done more cleaning.
ReplyDeleteEloise, you do have a point there! LOL. I can just imagine myself saying, "No, I can't die yet, I have to clean my house first, before the paramedics come and see this mess!" Ha, ha! Maybe I can find that middle path between blogging and other leisure activities and a clean house. Moderation in all things and so forth. That balance I keep looking for in the various areas of my life. :)
DeleteSuch a pretty sweater, I can see why it is one of your favourites. As for the messy desk, well, we all have our messes, says she looking over her shoulder at the spare bed with things on it that didn't need to be there in the first place, let alone stay there! You did a great job with your desk. My excuse is that I am waiting for winter to go, since the very thought of it being around -13°F during the nights is enough to bring on hibernation mode. I'm hoping that when spring arrives, it will bring a burst of spring cleaning effort with it!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Bushlady. Ha, ha, you haven't seen my spare room, yet! Brr! Those are cold temperatures, indeed! Bundle up and stay warm! Spring will be soon enough to declutter and clean! In between collecting and boiling the maple sap, that is!
