Saturday

Asian Pear

Yesterday (Friday), I picked the first Asian Pear of the season,  It was hot from the sun, so, I kept it in the fridge to get cool and I cut it, today:

Halved Asian Pear

It was crisp and sweet and very refreshing.  There are smaller fruit on the tree; I don't think they'll get much bigger, but, I will wait a few more days to pick them.

It's been a cooler day, today.  Of course it would turn cool once the a/c unit was set up!  LOL.  I have had a relaxed day, spending most of the afternoon and early evening sewing.  I started the car, cleaned the litter box, did the dishes, chatted with friend R, and watched some TV before the party started, next door, around 6:30 p.m. Once the music started (it's all being held outside in their yard - live music and amplifiers that are taller than I am!) I couldn't hear the music program I was watching on TV!  So, I turned the TV off.  Even the video chat with my daughter was kept short because we could barely hear each other!  She had a good day, though; she went to San Francisco to meet up with some friends and they went to watch Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

I toasted two slices of my bread for brunch; it was very good, toasted, especially spread with some of my peach jam.  For dinner, I made fried rice:

Sausage Fried Rice

Leftover rice, a sausage I had previously cooked and frozen (cut into small pieces and refried a bit), the last two tiny green tomatoes, chopped up, a few passionfruit leaves, shredded, an egg, some chili powder, soy sauce, and a handful of roasted peanuts on top.  Home style fast food!

Today, I am grateful for:
- Fresh Asian pears from the garden
- The car started without any problem
- Daughter had a fun day with her friends
- Chatting with friends
- A relaxed day

Today's joyful activity was, once again, playing with fabric!

How is your weekend coming along?  Any plans for Sunday?

  1. That pear looks lovely - lush! Having noisy neighbours can really wear you down. Sending good vibes. I hope that it didn't go on too long.

    1. Thank you, Lyssa; I'm enjoying the fruit I can pick from my garden. :) The neighbors' music was very loud! I eventually wore headphones to block out some of the noise! The music ended at 1:30 a.m., which was early by their standards. It's a good thing I go to bed rather late!

  2. Did you daughter see both parts of The Cursed Child? I'll be interested to know what she thought of it. I saw it in London when it was first staged, part 1 in the afternoon and part 2 in the evening, and enjoyed it.

Your neighbours would drive me mad and you are very patient with them. Are there no local restrictions on noise disturbance?

S is coming round to assemble my new furniture this afternoon but I haven't planned much more than that. I will need to water the pots tonight and would like to cook a chili and a chicken curry when it gets cooler later on this evening ... too hot to think about cooking at the moment!

    1. I think it was Part 1 only, but, I will ask her. She said she liked it; she was telling me about it, but, I couldn't quite hear what she was saying! LOL. She said there were a couple of details that seemed inconsistent (something about how many people seemed to know which house HP was growing up in when it was supposed to have been hidden by a spell?) but, it was hard to hear what she was saying! There was a partying going on, next door! :D
Yes, there is a noise ordinance and I even made a copy of it, but, it is useless to tell them about it. One neighbor tried to report their noise to the police, on an earlier occasion, but, the police have other, more serious. matters to deal with.
I'm sure that by now, the new furniture has been assembled and you have prepared your meal. I got some housework done this morning when it was cooler. :)

    2. I asked my daughter about the play, saying you wanted to know what she thought about it. This what she texted:

"So post pandemic they actually made an abridged version - combining parts 1 and 2 together - and that's the one I saw yesterday.

I rly enjoyed the high production value and overall rly like it - but, some parts I found incongruous with the main book series tho - like how Albus Potter and Scorpius Malfoy were able to see the Potters' house in Godrics Hollow when it was supposed to still have been under the Fidelius charm and how they show Lily and James go out of the house with Harry yet from the books we know that they couldn't leave the house - Lily had written letters to Sirius abt how James was not coping well with that restriction... "

      :)

    1. They do! I love the fact that they know to enjoy life, but, the music does get a little loud!

  4. I will have to look for those Asian pears.

  5. That is very rude of your neighbors to play music so loud! I wonder if a request from all the neighbors to turn it down would help? A note, everyone sign. Or maybe everyone should show up and start partying on their front lawn! Invite yourselves over! I hope you are getting some quiet now.

    1. They are the problem neighbors in our block. Everyone else is quiet and considerate. But, these neighbors are loud, inconsiderate, and I have the pleasure of living right next door to them! LOL.
It has got a bit better over the years. When they first moved in, several years ago, they used to party almost every weekend! At first, they invited me and I would go just to be neighborly but, then, I realized that by attending those loud gatherings, I was sort of condoning it, and stopped going.
At first, it was a multigenerational family living there - mother, father, married son with wife and 3 children, married daughter with husband and daughter, and another son who didn't always live there; they were then joined by another woman with her 3 children and a couple of men. It's a 4 bedroom house and there were 17 people living there.
Then, some people moved out and others moved in - I think they are renting out the garage and I know people live in the 2 RV's that are parked either in front of my house or in their driveway. I've lost count of the number of people who live there for a few months and then leave.
I believe the other Spanish speaking neighbors have spoken to them about the noise and their vehicles (they have several cars and trucks, in addition to the RVs). They've given up!
The neighbor in the house behind them has called the police on them about their loud parties, about their dogs jumping over the wall and attacking her dog, and about their dogs barking in the middle of the night, etc. I think the police told her they can't really do anything. That neighbor has been known to drive over in her car. honk, and scream at them to turn the music down!
I only complain when they block my driveway with their vehicles. I try not to complain about the noise or the occasional items they place in my parkway (gardener M usually puts them back on their parkway!). I don't want to antagonize them; I am mindful of the fact that I live alone and they know that.

    2. Oh Bless, I'm sorry you have to put up with them. Yes, I also live alone so I understand that you don't want to antagonize them. Take care of yourself.

    3. Thank you, Celie; sorry, didn't mean to write such a long reply, but, just wanted you to understand why I'm determined to mind my own business and put up with the noise. It is annoying, but, at least it is happy noise! :)

  6. My favourite kind of fried rice is with leftover sausage and egg! I had it last week and kept some sausages in the fridge for tomorrow too! As for that Asian pear, I envy you! Soooo refreshing, straight from the fridge! Hope the others ripen for you too. Do you peel them?

    1. Ha, I, too, kept a sausage in the fridge for tonight!
I don't peel the Asian pears. I just eat them, peel and all! Extra fiber! :)

  7. I guess you don't have any noise bylaws where you live! Or maybe the police just don't care. I can understand you keeping your head down when you live alone. I'd go mad with that noise. Whoever invented giant amplifiers should be ashamed! Ditto for noisy fireworks! (old lady's opinion). Your toast sounds yummy, also the stirfry. We had takeout tonight, liver and bacon. Haven't had it for months. I like the restaurant because they do a choice of one or two pieces per serving (one is generous enough for each of us), and also they use a fibre clamshell which can be washed and broken up and composted. The top, being clean, can be cut off and put in the recycle bin.
DH is more or less packed and will leave tomorrow afternoon.

    1. There is a city-wide noise ordinance, but, the police have other things to keep them occupied! Fireworks are illegal within the City limits (county, too, I believe), but, you wouldn't know that if you visited the city on New Year's Eve or 4th of July!
I'm not a fan of liver, so, I'll skip that and just have the bacon, please! :D I like the sound of that fiber clamshell the restaurant uses, though!
Safe travels to DH; hope you won't be too lonely while he's gone. :)

  8. Cold crisp fresh pear sounds delightful. I had my first peach of the season yesterday, given to me not grown by me, and it was so sweet and juicy. I can't believe I had not partaken before now, so near the end of summer.

  9. Oh gosh - I could not stand that neighbor noise. Of course we all hear our neighbors when you live in a typical suburban neighborhood but amplifiers taller than a person on a residential lot???? doesn't even come close to being acceptable. I'm sorry but someone else's right to play music should not be at a level that you cannot hear your own television or talk on the phone to your daughter. That's just crazy.
I feel so sorry for you having to put up with that. I would be beside myself.
I read your reply to Celie and I understand your reluctance to do anything but I sure do wish someone would.
Thank goodness it's not every weekend.
Do you stay clam while it's going on? I would be so upset.

    1. I have just about everyone in the neighborhood sympathize with me when the noisy neighbors have one of their parties! I am not exaggerating, but my whole house vibrates to the base! I have some brass Sri Lankan wall plaques on the wall, which are fairly thin and light, and they shake to the vibrations and make a noise of their own!
I do stay calm (no point in getting upset) and I try to enjoy the music. But, it is really not my preferred type of music and this time around, they didn't even play the Spanish version of Achy Breaky Heart for me to dance to! LOL. I eventually put on my headphones and listened to some music on the computer and that helped!
