Mama Cat |
Guess who showed up at my back door for breakfast, this morning? Mama Cat was sitting by the door when I woke up, this morning, and even tried to help me open the door by pawing at it! I was SO happy to see her! I guess she is over whatever it was that was ailing her and was more or less back to her usual self! I gave her food and filled the big water bowl and she ate some of the kibble. Then, she disappeared, but, later, I saw that she was relaxing near the back gate, in the shade. I fetched the small bowls I had used to feed her when she was hiding under the plants in the front garden, rinsed them out, and filled them again for her, but, kept them near the back porch. She came to check them out, ate a little bit, and went to lie down, again. She came back to eat, much later, again, which is when I took the photo. The steps are wet because M washed them for me.
The morning was nice and cool. But, it warmed up in the afternoon. I spent the afternoon sewing my disappearing nine patches and planning the next step of the quilt. I will not be making the entire quilt top with disappearing nine patches. I want to incorporate some other patches I've pieced earlier. I'm not quite sure how that will work out, but, I think it will evolve as I sew.
In the evening, M arrived to tend to the garden. He watered the plants and tidied up the place a bit for me. I served him some of my bread with butter and peach jam. I warned him that the bread was a bit dry and dense and he replied, "Like me!" LOL.
Brunch had been some of the bread with a slice of cheese. Dinner was rice with the last of the chicken curry, dhal, and zucchini chutney. Snacks included an apple, the last of the chocolate wafers, and roasted cashew nuts.
I texted with cousin V, spoke on the phone with friend R, and video chatted with my daughter. Daughter also shared some pictures her friend had sent her of the new baby. In one of them, she is shown wearing the Pikachu hat my daughter crocheted for her! So cute!
Today, I am grateful for:
- Mama Cat seems to have recovered
- M helping me with the garden
- Water for the garden
- Keeping in touch with family and friends
- Electricity to operate the appliances (fans, sewing machines, irons, TV, etc.)
Today's joyful activity was sewing on my patchwork!
How was your Friday? What are your plans for the weekend?
Lovely that your daughter was able to see the new baby in the clothes she crocheted.
ReplyDeleteAlso glad that mama cat seems to be feeling better.
M sounds amusing! I like that kind of humour :o)
It's always nice to know that the items we make for others are used, isn't it?
DeleteYes, thank you; Mama Cat seems to be fine, now. She came to the back door, again, this morning, for her breakfast. Then, she settled herself down to do guard duty in front of the garage door!
M has a nice sense of humor and is very witty. :)
On Friday I swam in the sea, for the first time in years. It was amazing. But the cliff path was high and steep. And today I ache all over!
ReplyDeleteOh, wow! What fun! I can't swim, but, growing up, I used to go for "sea baths" as we used to call them! Sounds like you had a good workout! :)
DeleteI'm glad Mama cat seems to be better. Maybe the heat was just too much for her.
ReplyDeleteThank you, June; you might be right about the heat being too much for her!
DeleteMama cat is pretty. Glad to hear she has recovered. It sounds like you had a good day. I look forward to seeing your be quilt!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Celie; she is a very gentle creature. I did have a lovely day! Housework might have gone undone, but, I allowed myself to get in some fabric play time! :D I will share pictures of the quilt as it progresses. :)
DeleteI'm glad that Mama Cat seems to have recovered and is making herself comfy in the garden again.
ReplyDeleteAll of your quilts that I've seen have looked good so I'm sure your disappearing nine patches mash up with the other patches you've made will look equally as good.
The only thing planned for this weekend is that S will assemble the new furniture for me. I'm aiming for a quiet time, just reading and watching YouTube videos.
Thank you, Eileen. I'm glad to see that Mama Cat is back to her normal self. As June ("Live and Learn") commented, it might have been too hot for her!
DeleteI hope the quilt will work out the way I envision it to. It not, I'll make some new patches as needed. :) I tried to lay out some pieces on the bed to see how it looks, but, Dancer came to help and I had to stop! :D
I hope S has been able to assemble your new table and chairs for you and you will enjoy your meals seated at the table in your new dining room! :) Sounds like a lovely, relaxed weekend. :)
I don't appreciate the luxury of electricity until there is a power outage and then I realize how dependent on it I am.
ReplyDeleteGlad Mama Cat has recovered!
Electricity is definitely a luxury, isn't it? We've come to depend on it to such an extent that I sometimes wonder how we'll ever manage without it!
DeleteThank you; June mentioned that maybe it had been too hot for Mama Cat and maybe that was what was wrong!
Mama cat has the daintiest white shoes! I'm so glad she has come out of her doldrums. Your gardener has quite the sense of humour! I bet you enjoyed seeing those photos of your daughter's friends baby, especially wearing the Pikachu hat.
ReplyDeleteWe had rain in the night again and it is hot and sunny, sometimes cloudy. We were at the Farmers' Market this morning and it was too hot to hang around. The house stays fairly cool if the windows are covered in the south. I fed several blue jays this morning, it's cute to see one fly onto the porch and make a skid landing, grabbing a peanut and taking off rapidly!
She does, doesn't she? She inherited them from her mother! June ("Live and Learn") commented that maybe the heatwave had been too much for her and that makes sense.
DeleteM is always very quick with a witty comeback! We get into puns, from time to time. :D
The baby is really cute with the plumpest little cheeks!
I'm glad you continue to have rain at night, Bushlady, with sunny days. I hope you found some good produce to buy at the Farmers' Market. I've been feeding mockingbirds and mourning doves. One mourning dove showed up on the porch steps to eat the cat food I had put out for Mama Cat, and Dancer tried to attack it from inside the house! The sliding glass door was firmly closed, so the bird was not hurt. The cat might have made contact with the glass door with a bit of a thud, but, he's OK, too. :)
So glad that Mama Cat is back. If she allows, please pass on gentle scritches. Otherwise, please pass on the scritches to Dancer, who is awesome.
ReplyDeleteAnd it's lovely that your hard work with the hat is appreciated. You are so talented with things like that.
Mama Cat flinches away from being touched, but, Dancer appreciated the scritches! :D
DeleteActually, it was my daughter who crocheted the hat (along with a little jacket to go with it); it was the first time she had ever made any baby clothes! :)
How nice that Mama Cat is back in form. And I like M's sense of humor too.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Susanne. Yes, M has a nice sense of humor. :)
DeleteI am so glad to read that Mamma Cat is better. I think she was grieving over the loss of her friend and partner, Snowball.
ReplyDeleteMaybe she realized that life goes on and it was time to go home to the backyard.
We are getting a little rain here today. It's a light rain and probably won't amount to much but I'm hopeful anyway. And very appreciative.
Thank you, Debra. Yes, it's good to see her back in the backyard, especially coming up to the door to eat! I was worried about her!
DeleteGlad you are getting some light rain. It's better to get a little light rain than a deluge which can cause flash floods! Hopefully, it will rain just enough to give the garden a good soaking. :)
Those floods are awful - getting all that rain (10"!!) in 24 hours.
ReplyDeleteWe did end up with probably 1/2 " and I am thrilled.
My rain barrel is full and I was even using a couple of containers to catch some overflow from the gutters when it rained harder for a few minutes. I can use that water for some dryer shade areas where it's harder for a light rain to penetrate the tree coverage.
I got soaked but it was so much fun :)
I love being in the rain when it is warm! I have a childhood memory of standing under the gutter (for some reason, the downspout didn't go all the way to the ground; maybe it had broken) with my youngest half-brother, pretending to have a shower, when it rained! I'm sure it was his idea as he was 8 years older than me (I can't remember how old I was - maybe 5 or 6?) I've a vague recollection that my mother allowed it, but, my father must not have been home at the time, because he would have had a fit if he had known I went out to play in the rain! LOL.
DeleteI'm glad you received enough rain to fill your rain barrel. :) They are predicting just such a 1 in 1,000 year storm and flood for California, in the next 40 years or so! I can't imagine!
Mama cat is beautiful. I'm glad she appears to be feeling better. X
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jules; yes, she seems to be back to her usual self now. :)
