Knitted Hats

Today, I had my oncologist appointment in the early afternoon.  I took the eight hats I had knitted since my last visit, which had been in October to give the cancer center to be given to anyone who might want one.  The appointment went well.  The lab results were mostly good and the cancer indicators were within normal range.  Most importantly, the recent mammogram and ultrasound results were normal!  I was so happy to hear that!  An answered prayer!  I had been worried when I was told a repeat mammogram was required.  I received my injection for osteoporosis (given every 6 months) and my next appointment, which will be in April.

When I came home, the letter from the radiology clinic with the mammogram results was in the mail box!

I had eaten a frozen burrito for brunch before I left for my appointment.  After I came home, I had a bowl of the Thai Green Curry soup.  Later, I had some cheese and crackers with my evening cup of tea.

In the evening, M came to tend to the garden.  We are expecting some rain over the next couple of days and he moved some potted plants to where they could get rained on and did some tidying.  Clouds have been gathering all day, but, so far (typing this at 11:20 p.m.), no rain, yet.

Daughter prepared Hawaiian Chicken for dinner, tonight:

Hawaiian Chicken with Vegetables

I added some sliced carrots, broccoli stems, and canned pineapple chunks to the sauce and prepared a cucumber salad to go with it.  We had it served over rice:

My Dinner

Dinner was delicious!  I really like the sauce daughter prepared for the chicken - she mixed it up as a marinade and kept the chicken to marinate overnight; once cooked, the marinade turned into the sauce.

I had some of the canned pineapple chunks for dessert.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Good mammogram and blood test results
- A safe drive to the clinic and back
- Health insurance
- Daughter cooking dinner
- M tending to the garden
- Answered prayers

Today's joyful activity was donating the knitted hats to the cancer clinic.

Plans for tomorrow include doing a load of laundry and some paperwork.

How was your Friday?  What are your plans for the weekend?

  1. That chicken looks wonderful! Thrilled about the test results - answered prayers indeed. Hallelujah! My plans today - rethinking my weekend meal plans, the oven failed midway thru preparation of last night's meal. No baking cakes today, or roasting tomorrow. All stove-top stuff till the new element arrives. But we won't starve!

Oh, no, so sorry to hear about your oven! Hope the new element arrives soon and you'll have a working oven, again!

    1. Thank you, Martha. It made me very happy to knit and donate the hats. The nurse practitioner I handed them to said it makes her very happy, too, when former patients do something to help the current patients.

I hope you, too, have a good weekend. :)

  4. That is wonderful news about the test results. Those hats are beautiful. You could have your daughter help you set up an Esty shop and you could sell them online. You knit so fast, I think you could have enough to both donate and to sell. And your daughter could add some crocheted ones. Just an idea for all of your spare time. :)

    1. Thank you, Live and Learn; I was steeling myself for the results, just in case, giving myself a mental pep talk on the way to the clinic! :)

As for the hats, they are for donation, only! :D I used to knit red hats for the American Heart Assoc., to give to preemies born in February to raise awareness of congenital heart defects, but, then, they decided to do booties, instead, and I prefer to knit hats to booties. But, thank you for the suggestion! :)

    1. Thank you, Stephenie. Yes, I am very relieved! The dinner was good and there's just enough left for one more serving! The hats were knitted with whatever leftover yarn I had in my stash and I used some yarn from my daughter's stash, too, just to have enough hats to donate. I have just enough yarn now, in my stash, for two planned sweaters (bought the yarn specifically for them) and one pair of socks!

  7. So happy to know that all your results were good. The hats are lovely and will be much appreciated, I'm sure. The food looks great. I was grocery shopping yesterday and bought some chicken breasts and I'm not sure if they were from old hens on their last legs, or if it was my cooking but "rubber chicken" was the result today! I may have to put the remaining pieces in some broth and simmer them gently till they behave!

    1. Thank you, Bushlady; I know you kept me in your prayers. I hope the hats will be useful. Chicken breasts can cook up on the dry side, very often. I hope simmering them in broth will help.

    2. I was thinking today about all the prayers that were being offered for you from different faiths and denominations, and reflecting that the caring thoughts expressed by those who do not profess a particular religion are nevertheless a form of prayer. All loving thoughts and hopes for others are prayers!

    3. That they are, Bushlady! There are so many different ways to pray, aren't there?

  8. That is so good that your tests were all normal. I'm really happy for you and thankful for your continued good health.

I love seeing all of your delicious meals. The chicken looks especially good.

Your hats are so nice and I'm sure were welcome at the cancer center. It's nice of you to make them.

    1. Thank you, Debra. "Health is wealth" as they say! I've much to be thankful for and I felt that donating the hats was a way of saying thank you.

The chicken dish was delicious! I am going to get my daughter's recipe for the sauce (it had honey, ketchup, soy sauce, garlic, ginger, but, I don't know if there was anything else).

  9. Hawaiian Chicken sounds wonderful. I think you manage a lot more variety in your meal plans than we do here.

    1. There has been more variety since my daughter came home and is sharing the cooking. She is more willing to try out different recipes than I am (I used to be like her, but, now, I've got old and can't be bothered! LOL.)

  10. Great news regarding the appointments! It must be a relief.
