Ground Beef and Potato Stew

Guess who is being spoiled by her neighbor?

If you guessed, "Bless", then, you would be right!  LOL.

Neighbor S called me again, this evening, and said she made a ground beef and potato dish and would I like to try some?  "Yes, please!" She is such a blessing!

I'm calling it a stew, because it was thicker than a soup.  I warmed up a bowl of it for my dinner and added some green peas to it:

With Green Peas

It was delicious!

Today has been a good day.  The asthma has been kept under control with the help of the inhalers.  I watered the backyard, practiced the piano, did some paperwork (that stuff keeps piling up, no matter what!), washed a pile of dishes, and made a batch of tomato soup, using homemade chicken broth that I had in the freezer, frozen tomatoes, a cut up carrot, some onions, celery, and bell pepper (everything, except the carrot, was from the freezer).  Midway through all that, my hands cramped up, but, I took one of my magnesium supplements, drank some extra water, and rested for a bit until the cramps eased up, and then, continued with the rest of the tasks.

Tomorrow, I have my dental appointment at noon.   That's the main reason why I made the tomato soup.  I am planning to have that for my dinner, tomorrow, as it will be easy to eat.  I also have ice cream in the freezer and frozen bananas if I want to make the frozen banana dessert or a smoothie.  The last time I had a tooth extracted, I was in pain for days!  I hope it won't be quite as bad, this time!

Today, I am grateful for:
- Neighbor S spoiling me with dinner, again!
- Asthma inhalers
- Phone calls and emails from friends
- Being able to video chat with my daughter
- What I was able to accomplish

Today's joyful activity was being treated to dinner, by my neighbor, again.

The only thing on the agenda for tomorrow is the dental appointment.  However, if I feel up to it, I might do some more paperwork and filing.  All will depend on how I feel after the tooth extraction.  Wish me well, please!

  1. I couldn't eat eat because of the beef but that meal looks so tasty. You are so lucky to have such generous friends.

I hope your dental appointment doesn't leave you in too much pain. Do you have painkillers you can take if needed?

    1. It was a tasty meal, more so because I didn't have to cook it! LOL. You are so right; I am very lucky, and blessed, to have such good friends.

Thank you; yes, I do have some tablets I can take for the pain. Sometimes, the dentist prescribes something a little stronger, but, that would mean having to step into the pharmacy...sigh.

  2. How nice that your neighbor shared a meal with you again. Be careful having anything hot on the day of extraction, it can cause bleeding. Stick with the cold stuff and if you make a smoothie don't use a straw, that's bad after extraction too. I hope you won't be in too much pain afterwards!

    1. It was very kind and generous of her to do so, wasn't it?

Thank you for telling me about avoiding hot foods and not using a straw. I do remember the dentist telling me not to drink tea, etc. for several hours after the last dental procedure I had done, a couple of years ago. I will ask him about it, today (hope I'll remember to do so!)

    2. I have a dentist appointment tomorrow too. It's just a cleaning but I know there will be more appointments - there always seems to be. I have a dentist phobia. I am trying to stay calm and think happy thoughts, but it's not easy. I usually tell myself it is only for an hour. I can survive an hour. Ick. I shall be thinking of you and sympathizing!

    3. Good luck with your teeth cleaning, tomorrow, Sharon. I had that done a couple of weeks ago, myself. You are right - there always seem to be more dentist appointments! I have to go back in October for a check up and be fitted for the partial denture.

  5. I do hope that your dental appointment goes well and that you will heal quickly.
I was supposed to see the hygienist on Monday but she is sick and I have had to reschedule to see the other one in October.
A neighbour has a couple of apple trees which are loaded and dropping fruit all over the ground, so we were invited to go and take windfalls. I'm busy dealing with them all now. I've already stewed some and we already had some of that for dessert, but I need to cut up the good parts of the rest and freeze them. The squirrels get the cores and I threw out 10 cores this afternoon and they all disappeared.

    1. Thank you, Bushlady; it went well and I am healing.
Hope your visit with the hygienist goes well.

That was very kind of your neighbor to invite you to help yourself to the windfall apples! I foresee some apple sauce and apple pie in your future! If you'd like something a little bit different, you can also make a curry with apples. :)

    1. It went very well, thank you, Debra. I thought there might be some difficulty with extracting the tooth, because it broke at the gum line. But, the dentist was able to take it out without too much trouble. I felt a little discomfort after the numbing wore off, but, then, took a prescribed painkiller and it has been fine, since then. :)
