My daughter said she woke up this morning to an orange colored sky:
Orange Haze |
She said the color was more saturated than it is seen in the photograph and she called it an "apocalyptic sky". It was in the news, too, and it remained like that, all day, apparently, as shown in this picture she took in the evening:
Apocalyptic Skies |
A result of the sun trying to shine through the smoke from the fires and a marine layer. We are so glad we bought her the air purifier! She ordered one for me, too, today.
I woke up before 8:00 a.m. today! It was intentional. I had set my alarm for 8:00 a.m., but, actually woke up at 7:45 a.m., before the alarm went off, and decided to get up. I showered, got dressed, had my morning cup of tea, fed the cats, put water the the back garden (used the sprinklers), and filled out the last two forms that have to be turned in to the retirement center. Yesterday, I had emailed a former co-worker who now works in the retirement center and requested some help with the paperwork. I received an auto reply that he was out of the office until Wednesday (today). This morning, he responded to my email, telling me not to stress too much about it, that he will walk me through the forms. I asked him to call me, tomorrow (as I was going to the dentist's today, and didn't know what time I'd be back or how I'd feel, afterwards). I feel a lot better after his reply.
Then, I practiced the piano and had some crackers with peanut butter for breakfast (I wasn't very hungry, but, I didn't want to go to the dental appointment without eating).
I got to the dental clinic a little early, which was good because I had to fill out some new paperwork (it's been almost two years since my last visit!) The appointment itself went well enough, although my regular dentist wasn't in the office, today. They took X-rays, and I showed the broken tooth and the crown that came off. The dentist on duty told me that since the tooth broke at the gum line, there was nothing left to cement the crown back on and the root of the tooth has to be extracted, which is what I had anticipated.
He was going to do that, today, but, first, I had the teeth cleaning that had been scheduled. I hate the deep cleaning, although the technician who did it was good and it didn't hurt as much as it did the last time. That previous time, the dentist had to give me numbing medication and I could still feel it!
Then, after the teeth cleaning, the staff couldn't find the dentist! He had apparently taken his lunch break! LOL! I waited for a little bit and then, decided to schedule the extraction for another day! The dentist did return to the office while I was making the payment for today's visit, but, I told him that I had changed my mind about doing the extraction today. I scheduled an appointment for a day when the regular dentist will be in. He knows my case history and I feel better about having him do the extraction.
After I came home, I cooked myself some lunch:
Lunch: Rice, Cashew Curry, Cabbage, Sliced Hot Dogs |
I have friends up and down the west coast who are showing pictures like the one your daughter took. Not a good situation. I hope all of the fires are under control soon.
ReplyDeleteI hope all your friends are safe from the fires, Live and Learn. No, it is not a good situation, at all. I, too, hope they will get the fires under control, soon.
DeleteThe orange sky is so scary looking! I'm glad your daughter is safe and glad to hear all went well for the most part at the dentist. Lunch looks yummy too!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Martha. My daughter said it felt very strange to see that orange sky!
DeleteI am glad you daughter is safe from the fires also.
ReplyDeleteThe sky is eerie but kind of pretty at the same time.
Thank you, Anne. I told my daughter that the sky reminded me of the song, 'Out of an Orange Colored Sky' - "...flash, bang, alakazam, out of an orange colored sky". :D
DeleteI’m had both you and your daughter are safe from the fires. I thought about you and Stephenie when I saw the news on TV.
ReplyDeleteIt was scary to see fires so close, and oh those people who lost everything! It’s so sad.
Thank you, Nil. Yes, my daughter and I are safe and we both feel very blessed. It is a tragedy to see so many people lose everything to the fire. This has been such a terrible year for so many!
DeleteWe have been hearing all about the terrible wildfires and the smoke and the colour of the sky. It's good that your daughter has the air purifier and I hope yours arrives soon.
ReplyDeleteThat lunch photo reminded me that it is time to start supper!
DH also had to have his teeth deep cleaned today and we got up before 4.30am to drive to the big city! It was the first time in 6 months that we had been away from our local area and it was great to see the fall foliage along the highway. The leaves haven't turned yet but there are lovely subtle colours of flowers and vegetation beside the road.
The hazy skies and poor air quality have moved into my area, too, and I've had to keep my windows closed. My air purifier should arrive by next Friday.
DeleteThat's an early start to the day! Hope you were able to get in a short nap in the afternoon! Fall is definitely a beautiful time of the year, isn't it? Nothing as pretty as leaves turning color. :)
The orange sky looks like something out of a sci-fi film. It's a little unnerving, isn't it? Good to hear that you and your daughter are still safe though.
ReplyDeleteThe orange sky looks like what one would expect on Mars, doesn't it? Thank you, yes, we are still safe.
DeleteI am glad you were able to communicate with your former co-worker about your health insurance and he was able to reassure you that things will go smoothly.
ReplyDeleteYour dentist visit sounds a bit stressful - I'm glad you got things tended to. At least for now.
Did the people in the dental office also wear face shields in addition to their masks?
I'm very hesitant about going to the dentist.
Thank goodness you bought your daughter that air filter, Bless and I'm glad you are getting one as well.
I've been seeing the coverage on the news and it looks so awful. I hope the fires are able to be controlled soon. I feel so bad for the people in the paths of these fires.
Thank you, Debra; I spoke with my former co-worker, yesterday, and I feel much better about the whole thing.
DeleteThe dentist visit was a little stressful. The staff wore masks, but, the only one wearing a face shield was the technician who cleaned my teeth and she did that only when she was actively cleaning my teeth. I felt very exposed and vulnerable while I was on the dental chair without a mask on. But, I will go back to have the tooth extracted. I wouldn't go if I didn't need to.
Yes, I'm very glad I got her the air purifier when I did! My one should arrive, next week.
What a sky! I have a dentist appointment coming up. I am always anxious but even more so this year. I always have the same technician. She is sympathetic to my fear of the dentist and is always very gentle. She always asks in advance if anything is sensitive and goes gently around that area. I certainly appreciate her!
ReplyDeleteIt really is an eerie sky, isn't it?
DeleteHope your dentist appointment goes well, Sharon. That's good that you have a sympathetic technician who is gentle.
