September Meal Planning: Week 3 Review and Week 4

My September Week 3 meal plan was made prior to grocery shopping and was based on what I had in the freezer and pantry.  I put in a grocery order midweek and picked it up on Thursday afternoon.  That resulted in a few changes to the menu plan, as I now had bread!

September Week 3 Meal Plan Options:

Breakfast/Brunch/Lunch:  Cereal with milk, scrambled egg and fried potatoes, pancakes, tuna salad on crackers.

Dinners:  Stringhoppers (rice noodles) with fish curry, leftover cashew curry, and potato curry; Rice with leftover fish curry, cabbage; Rice or noodles with smoked sausage stir fry; leftovers 

Snacks/desserts:  Fruits (fresh/canned), nuts, crackers, cookies, etc.

Here is how it all worked out:

Monday:
Brunch: Pancakes 
Dinner:  Stringhoppers (rice noodles), fish curry, cashew curry, potato curry, seeni sambol (spicy onion relish)

Dinner



Snacks/Dessert: Orange, cookie
 
Tuesday:
Brunch: Milk rice, seeni sambol (onion relish), orange juice
Dinner: Stringhoppers and curries
Snacks/Dessert:  Peanuts, edamame, orange

Wednesday:
Brunch: Leftover milk rice and onion relish, orange juice
Dinner: Stringhoppers and curries
Snacks/Dessert: Edamame, orange

Thursday:
Brunch: Cereal and milk
Dinner:  Frozen cheese pizza
Snacks/Dessert: Grapes, banana, tortilla chips

Friday: 
Brunch: Bread and onion relish
Dinner:  Hamburger patties
Snacks/Dessert: Banana, grapes, ice cream

Saturday:
Breakfast: Bread and onion relish
Lunch: Hamburger patty with bread  
Dinner: Stringhoppers with potato curry, fish curry, and onion relish
Snacks/Dessert: Grapes, crackers with mango jam, tortilla chips 

Sunday:
Brunch:   French toast
Dinner:  The last of the stringhoppers with curries
Snacks: Banana, grapes, granola bars


I start out Week 4 with a full fridge and freezer!  

September Week 4 Meal Plan Options:

Breakfast/Brunch/Lunch:  Leftover French toast (Monday), cereal with milk, scrambled egg and toast or fried potatoes, pancakes, tuna or egg salad sandwiches, garden salad.

Dinners:  Leftover hamburger patty with salad and corn; chicken stir fry with rice or noodles; soup (Thursday, after tooth extraction), leftovers, 

Snacks/desserts:  Fruits, crackers, tortilla chips, ice cream, etc.

That is the plan, anyway.  Things might change towards the end of the week, after my tooth extraction, depending on how I feel afterwards.

  1. Sounds like a great plan! Hope everything goes smoothly for the tooth extraction. I just went through the same thing not too long ago. Definitely no fun. Have a great week :)

    1. Thank you, Martha. I am not looking forward to the tooth extraction, at all! But, I have the makings of soup, pudding, jello, etc., if needed, and ice cream in the freezer!

  2. You are so organized with your meal planning. I have been eating up the leftovers, too. I have four chicken breasts cooking in the oven right now. They are so versatile; I can use them all different ways. I plan to purchase more melons. They are so sweet and delicious this time of year.

    1. You are very kind to say so, Stephenie. I am trying to be organized. In my mind, if I am to meal plan "properly", I'd list the meals by day rather than options! But, that hasn't worked out that well for me; I have no idea on a Monday, what I might want to eat on Sunday! The options do better - I can pick and choose! Today, for example, I didn't feel hungry at all, so I just had some fruit and crackers!

  3. I always love seeing your meals and how exotic they are to me. I generally look them up and try to decide if I want to give them a go__usually (always) no, not because they don't sound good. They sound delicious, just unfamiliar techniques. But the string hoppers are particularly intriguing

Thank you, Anne, although nothing very exotic in the plans for this week. :) As for stringhoppers, if you have access to an Indian grocery store, check their frozen foods for "idiyappam", which is another name for stringhoppers (the Sinhala word for them is indiyappa; stringhoppers is Sri Lankan English). There is also a dehydrated version, but, I haven't tried that, yet.

  4. I didn't know the name stringhoppers😊 All of these sounds yummy as always! Today we are having tomato soup and then some pasta bolognese☺

    1. Thank you, Natalia. Tomato soup is one of my favorites (and what I am planning to make, later this week) and so is pasta bolognese. If I lived closer to you, I'd invite myself over to dinner! LOL.

  5. It's probably time for me to do some more bulk cooking for the freezer. I'm holding off until we hear today what the new arrangements will be for the UK as I may need the freezer space for other things.

  7. Meal planning is one thing I find making life easy these days, no great thought has to be given once the menu is set, makes shopping easier too. I do hope the tooth woes are quick, easy & makes you feel a whole lot better.

    1. It does make it easier to decide what to cook on a given day, doesn't it? :) Thank you; the previously capped tooth broke at the gum line and has to come out. It doesn't hurt, now, but, better to get it out before it gets infected. Not looking forward to it, though!

  8. I just realized that stringhoppers might be a useful item for DS and our DDIL, as they are sensitive to gluten and don't eat wheat pasta. Stringhoppers would make a nice carbohydrate option for a change from rice or potatoes. They live in the big city so they should be able to find some.

    1. Stringhoppers would be a good option for them, Bushlady. Just tell them to make sure they get the ones made with rice flour (some people make them with wheat flour that has been steamed prior to use). They might also like rice sticks, which are a type of Chinese rice noodles.
