Saturday Morning's Blessing

Rain Slick Road and Wet Ground; Taken from the front window

This morning's blessing was rain!

I wish I could say I woke up to the sound of rain, but I can't say that.  Because I had yet another night of complete insomnia, last night!  Coloring in my meditation coloring book didn't help.  I was wide awake!  I finally went to bed at 3:30 a.m. and lay down hoping to fall asleep, but I didn't.  I watched the clock hands creep.  I hoped that the sound of the early morning rain would lull me to sleep, but it didn't.  I eventually got out of bed at 6:30 a.m. and made myself a cup of tea.  While the tea brewed, I took pictures of the front garden and the back garden.  I suppose I will be considering a nap, later, this afternoon.

The Side of the Garage and the Lemon Trees, Taken from the back door.

It wasn't a very heavy rain, more like a steady drizzle, but it was RAIN and the garden got a good watering (it drizzled a little, last night, too!).  It means I don't have to pay to water the garden for at least a couple of days!

The Back Garden after the Rain

You can see the state of my "lawn" - it's practically non-existent!  The stray cats in the garden aren't very impressed by the wet stuff.

It has stopped raining now and the sun is trying to peep from behind the clouds.

This morning, I am grateful for:

- The blessing of rain and free water for my garden.
- A good cup of tea to wake me up from a sleepless night.
- Cheese pastries and almond cookies for breakfast!
- A lazy relaxed Saturday morning, reading blogs, etc.
- The promise of an afternoon nap.

I really should make myself a To Do list for today, so that I don't fritter away the rest of the day.  There's plenty to do but I'll make it easy on myself and do a Baby Steps To Do list:

- Make my bed!
- Put away washed dishes
- Do last night's dishes
- Put away last of the dried laundry
- Do a load of laundry and hang to dry
- Water/fertilize the indoor plants
- Tidy/dust the living room
- Tidy/dust the dining room
- Put away the styrofoam cooler the meat packages came, in the garage
- Go through the week's paperwork; file; recycle
- Clean my bathroom
- Start tidying some kitchen cabinets - started; went through food storage containers and tossed to the recycling bin about 20 mismatched containers and lids!

If I can get through that list, I should be in good form!  OK, it is 11:38 a.m.!  I am off to be productive!  Wish me luck!

What have you planned to do today?

  1. I live in Nevada and you'd think being a desert we'd get less rain but this year it's really been wet. The last few days we've had hail the size of quarters and lots of rain. My poor rhubarb is hanging in there but a little water logged and my little old dog hates the wet grass. But the up side is the lawn is a beautiful green!

Hope you have a relaxing productive weekend. I read your to do list and felt like I was slacking. So far only managed to get the floors swept, the dog fed and veggies cut up for a veggie tray and dip made. More to do so as my friend from Montana says, "Better get!"
    Take care.

    1. Crystal, lovely to hear from you! Hope all is well with you. Glad to hear you are getting rain. We are still, officially, in a drought! Getting the floors swept is a big achievement! If you notice, I don't say anything about doing my floors!

Hope you have a wonderful weekend.

  2. I hope you were able to get some things done and I do hope you sleep well tonight. I woke up around 4 am on Thursday and didn't get back to sleep, so I was "rubbish" on Friday. Last night was okay and I had a short nap this afternoon as well to catch up a bit.

That's great that you got some rain, and steady drizzle is good as it is more likely to seep into the ground than a downpour. We have rain this afternoon and I am so happy about that as the bush was getting really dry, and the catastrophic fires out west remind me that we are at risk too when everything is dry.

    1. I've started on the to do list and I am getting stuff done. I am trying to avoid napping in the afternoon, so I can maybe go to sleep at a decent hour tonight. Shall have to wait and see.

I saw some of the fires on TV news; people were having to evacuate with just the clothes on their backs! Scary! And sad. Such devastation! Glad you got some rain.

Hope you are having a lovely weekend and things are all well with you.

  3. What a pretty cat! Do you have many stray cats in your area? We don't but have heard of many feral cats in some areas. That's such a pretty one. Glad you got some much needed rain. :)

    1. Carolyn, it seems my garden is haven to several strays! They are actually semi-feral, but I feed them and try to catch and have them neutered, etc.

  4. Morning Bless. Just been catching up with you over the last few days. Congratulations to your daughter on passing her presentation, you must be very proud of her.

Sorry to hear sleep is eluding you again. Ever since posting about my waking up in the middle of the night I've slept right through - just to make a liar of myself haha!

I notice you've been colouring. I bought myself a little book last year and coloured a couple of pictures. Must track it down and do some more. I find it very soothing.

How long is it since you've had rain? I'm quite amazed that your lawn has completely disappeared. No chance of that happening over here although yesterday and today the weather has been lovely.

I love a list. Even crossing little things off gives a sense of achievement.

Enjoy your day. Hope you manage to get a decent nights sleep. xx

    1. Hi Suzanne, we are in the 4th year of drought, so, the "lawn" is just barely limping along. The last time it rained was on April 25, when we had a bit of drizzle. Sometimes, it rains a couple of miles from here, but I don't get any rain where I live.

Glad to hear you've been able to sleep through the night. I was able to have a good night's sleep, last night, so I think I might be over the insomnia until the next treatment!

  5. Happy Mother's Day, Bless!

Yay for rain and here is another thing to add to your gratitude list: with the drought that you have been experiencing, you haven't had to worry about mowing the lawn (well, I don't think). That's a plus in my book :)

Sorry to hear about the insomnia, how annoying. I hope you were able to nap during the day and catch up on some sleep last night.

Have a great Sunday with your daughter and your friends!

    1. Happy Mother's Day to you, too, Nathalie!

Well, actually, the gardener had just mowed the lawn on Friday! He doesn't have to mow it once a week, but does it as needed. Otherwise, I end up with patches of foot high grass and weeds.

I did get a nap in, yesterday afternoon, and slept well at night, so I think I am over the insomnia until the next treatment session!

Hope you are having a lovely Mother's Day with your daughter.
