Well, that turned out about the way I expected it to!  We somewhat followed the meal plan options I had listed while adding and subtracting  as we went.  Which is fine, actually.  It was a hot week with temperatures going up to triple digits on some days.  I didn't feel like cooking on some days and I didn't feel like eating what I had listed on other days.  Daughter had her own meal preferences and we ate different things on some days and I didn't always keep track of what she ate (I had a hard enough time keeping track of my own meals!) But, it worked out well enough for us.

Moving on to this week...here are my meal plan options for August Week 2:

Brunches:  Protein Shake (Monday; me - after dental work getting a tooth ready for a crown); hamburger (Monday, daughter); Pancakes with sausages and blueberry compote (Tuesday); Tortillas with scrambled eggs and lunu miris; French toast; fried egg and cold cuts sandwiches; hamburgers; leftovers

Dinners: Scrambled eggs and ramen noodles soup (made with half a packet of ramen; Monday, me); Scrambled eggs and rice with chicken curry and peach chutney (Monday, daughter); Rice, chicken curry, cauliflower mallung, and moringa curry; Stringhoppers (me; daughter prefers rice) with kiri hodi (coconut milk curry) with or without eggs and/or chicken curry and seeni sambol; leftovers

Snacks/Desserts:  Fruit, protein shakes, yogurt, flan, ice cream

That's the plan.  We might or might not stick to it!

As always, I am grateful for the blessings of:
- Enough food to eat
- Plenty of variety
- A well stocked pantry and freezer
- Garden produce
- Fresh eggs from the chickens (who've been with us for 3 weeks for today!)

What about you?  Are you doing any meal planning this week?

  1. I see that eggs are figuring heavily in next weeks menu. Your chickens must be laying well.

    1. We are being well supplied with eggs by the chickens! Henny Penny lays more frequently than Niwatori. We are very pleased with our supply of eggs!

  3. Your menu sounds good, but I grt how it might or might not happen. My plan doesn't happen more than it actually does. I figure that is just life

    1. Thank you, Anne. I have good intentions, but, don't always have the energy to carry through with the actual cooking, especially when it is so hot.

  5. One of the benefits of being a small family is the ability to switch menu ideas at the drop of a hat, as you are able to do. I'm sure that wouldn't work with 5 or 6 people!

    1. Yes, changing menu plans is easier with a smaller family. I'm trying to recall what my mother did when my father was alive and we were a family of 8 - she did have a set meal plan and I believe we mostly ate what had been prepared. However, if someone wanted something different, then, I think every effort was made to accommodate that request. We had a cook, so it was not like my mother had to cook. :)

  6. That's a nice looking pan of sauteed smoked sausage.
At Christmas time we have gone to my ex-boss' house and he serves smoked sausage which he cooks on the grill and I do enjoy it with some nice mustards he offers.
The peanut butter and banana I'd pass on. Although I like both of those food items, I don't like them together. I heard that Elvis Presley liked a good peanut butter and banana sandwich so you too would've had a nice meal together ;)

    1. Thank you, Debra. Grilled smoked sausage is delicious, too; in fact, that's how I was first introduced to this type of sausage, when I was newly arrived in Wisconsin, all of 52 years ago for today! How time flies!
I grew up eating bananas with bread and butter because we didn't have peanut butter at the time. I had my first taste of peanut butter on bread when I was 11 or 12 when a visiting American friend offered me some. I remember not being too impressed at the time. I was in Hong Kong when I discovered the peanut butter and banana combo. I am a big fan of Elvis Presley's music, so I would have enjoyed having a peanut butter and banana sandwich with him! LOL.
