August August

Pinata Rose

The august month of August!  August has often been a month when I've experienced some major life changes over the years.  For example, it was August when I left my country of birth in 1973; it was August, the following year, when I arrived in the USA; my last visit to Sri Lanka was in August 1990; I've never been back since then and I doubt very much if I ever will; it was August of 2014 when my daughter left home to go to grad school (I bought my current car that August and I just renewed the registration!) and it was August of last year when daughter returned home to live with me.  There were other changes, too, that took place in August; the exact year might have been different, but, the month was August.  Of course, not every change took place in August; there have been other impactful changes that took place in other months, throughout the year.  But, over the years, August has been a month when many of these changes took place.

My religion teaches that change is the only constant, as contradictory as that might seem.  My mother used to tell me that change was good.  I am not someone who goes looking for changes; in fact, I don't like changes all that much, but, when changes do take place, I try to accept them and embrace them.

With that in mind. I am anticipating some changes taking place this August, too, and at least some of them will take place because I want them to happen.

Some of those changes will be health related.  I have an appointment with my oncologist scheduled for next week, after which I will be taken off one of the medications I've been taking for the past ten years, since August 2016.  Another, somewhat health related change will be more dental procedures that are scheduled to take place this August.

Another change I would like to see is an improvement in how my house looks.  A few things need to be updated and I really need to do another round of decluttering.  To that end, I've set myself a goal of a minimum of 31 items decluttered by the end of August.

How about you?  Do you like changes?  Are there any changes you'd like to make this month?

  1. Like you, I don't always welcome change, but I often feel the benefit when it happens. Ideally, I would like to use August - a month of fewer commitments than usual to catch up on the things I have fallen behind on and enter September more streamlined and organised in life. We'll see 🤔

    1. Changes do often bring benefits, don't they? I hope you are able to use August to catch up on the things and be more organized once September arrives. Thank you for visiting my blog and leaving a comment. :)

  2. Like it or not, changes are inevitable. Some are good, some not so. But nothing is forever. I think of the old man who, when asked why he didn't get upset with certain changes, replied that the Bible says, "It came to pass", but it doesn't say, "It came to stay"! Then there is the old saying from my childhood, "It all comes out in the wash"!

    1. Yes, Bushlady, nothing is forever and embracing the changes make them easier to accept. "Go with the flow", etc. :)

  3. It does sound like Augusts have been times of major changes for you. Fixing up your home to suit you can be quite uplifting. I am in that process now. Decluttering, having needed maintenance done, a few small improvements. August will be my time at home to take care of my needs. I've just gotten home from two weeks at my sister's. A lot of family came for her husband's funeral. It was good to see everyone, especially my brother who I'd not seen in 4 years!

    1. Welcome back, Celie. I'm sure your sister appreciated you being there for two weeks to help her. I'm glad you were able to see your brother after such a long time. :)

  4. Apart from my wedding, most of my 'significant events' have been in September.

    1. It's interesting how so many significant events in a person's life take place during a certain month of the year, isn't it? :)

  5. Beautiful picture. ❤️ I do like some changes, especially if the changes improve things for me. Decluttering is a very rewarding experience.

    1. Thank you, Linda. Yes, changes that improve things for us are the best, aren't they? :) Decluttering is difficult for me. I tend to hold on to things for too long!

  6. I appreciate and empathize as I am not big on change though I do try to embrace it as it occurs. Best to you regarding the dentist and decluttering and congratulations on being taken off the medication. Thanks for the birthday greetings and your support and suggestions.

  7. I have always heard the only constant in life is change. I believe it and need to be the one instigating changes around here. I am joining in with the decluttering project. I want to get rid of 100 items during this month.
    Your rose is gorgeous BTW>

    1. Yes, change is the only constant in life. Maybe I'll like it more if I were the instigator of the changes. :) Glad to have you join me with the decluttering, Anne. 100 items it is! :)

  8. In general, I don't do well with changes. However, I realize that they are good for me, so I try to embrace them. But that's still a work in progress.

    1. It's hard to adapt to changes, isn't it? We tend to become so comfortable with the way things are currently that we resist having to change. But, change is less traumatic if we learn to embrace it, I think. :)

  9. There are tides in life, aren't there. For me, it's September for good things and February for bad things.
I may try and join your decluttering project. I'm in urgent need of it.

You are most welcome to join in the decluttering, Lyssa. I am currently looking at my bookshelves...it's so hard to let go of books!

  10. August for me is a month where I respect nature, the heat, the summer holidays. I do little and recharge for autumn, when it is cooler and I restart my garden and many other things.

  12. August is certainly a month where, for you, a lot of things took place.
August for me has our wedding anniversary and also the anniversary of when we bought this house.
Also 4 friends have birthdays in August.
September 23rd is one of those dates in my life that is heavily populated with friends' birthdays. I think it's 5 friends with that birth date and other friends were married on that date.
It sounds like you have some good plans for your future.
I went to the dentist today for a filling for the cavity discovered on the routine exray a couple weeks ago when I went in for a cleaning.
I thought of you and how you are a very nervous dental patient. I hope that nervousness settles itself a bit as you go more often.

    1. You've a lot going on in August, yourself, Debra! Happy Anniversary to you and your husband. And happy anniversary of buying your current house, as well. :)
Well done with being on top of your dental requirements. Hope the filling went well with little pain. I have another dental visit coming up next Monday to have a permanent crown fitted and another tooth prepped for a new crown. With all these crowns, I should be royalty by the end of my treatment plan! LOL.

    2. With the money you are no doubt spending, you will need some royal jewels to pay for it!

    3. You don't want to know how much it is costing me! I almost cried when I got the estimate for all the treatment. Honestly, it's the most I've ever spent on myself.
