Box Mountain |
Daughter is home! She arrived on Friday, August 1st.
She had rented a moving container which she packed with her belongings, as it was cheaper than hiring movers. The estimated date for her boxes to be shipped to the company's warehouse/depot closest to us was August 7th (having the container delivered to the house and picked up later would have cost more). Daughter had arranged for her friends to help her unload the container and bring her boxes home on Saturday, August 9th.
But, she received notification that her moving container had arrived on Saturday, August 2nd. So, we decided that we would start moving her boxes on Sunday, August 3, by ourselves. We made three trips to the depot and back, this afternoon. The fact that it was 93F didn't bother us.
Daughter lifted and carried most of the boxes, giving me only the very lightest boxes and a few other light miscellaneous items. We brought home 28 boxes and several miscellaneous items including a rug, two framed pictures, a stack of plastic drawers, a stack of metal drawers, and a two tier wooden step stool. Everything is stacked in the living room!
There are still several more boxes left in the moving container. We plan to make one trip on Monday evening, after daughter has finished her work and before the warehouse/depot closes at 7:00 p.m., and another trip on Tuesday evening. We should have the moving container emptied by Tuesday; if not, we will make another trip on Wednesday evening.
I am grateful for:
- Daughter had a safe flight home
- All her friends who helped her to move her boxes to the moving container at that end
- The moving container was delivered to the warehouse/depot safely and ahead of schedule
- Daughter's foot has recovered enough to allow her to lift and carry the boxes
- We are able to bring the boxes home, a few at a time, in the car
My joyful activities these past few days have been getting ready for daughter to come home and having her home, again.
Thank you to everyone who wished my daughter a safe move back home.
Yay, your daughter is home safe and sound. Now the fun begins--unpacking boxes and figuring out how to incorporate her things into the house. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, June. Yes, now comes the fun part of unpacking boxes and finding room for her belongings. It'll take some time. She's planning a big declutter of her room, first.
DeleteSo glad she is home safely!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Angela. :)
DeleteThat's a lot of boxes! But together you'll sort it out and I'm sure you're happy to have her home safely.
ReplyDeleteShe does have a lot of boxes! Partly because her move time was shortened and she didn't have time to do a big declutter of her belongings other than the furniture.
DeleteI am very happy to have her home safely. We will unpack and put away things over the upcoming days and weeks. :)
That's fantastic news! You must be thrilled to have your daughter home again, and I'm so glad everything went smoothly with packing and transporting all of her belongings, and that she enjoyed a safe flight.
ReplyDeleteI've just enjoyed a good catch-up with your news after, unintentionally, being offline for the last couple of weeks.
Sending lots of love to you both. Xx
Thank you, Jules. Yes, I'm very happy to have my daughter home, again, safe and sound. I'm glad you are back online. :)
DeleteIt is great that your daughter's foot has recovered enough in time for this big move. I wonder what Dancer thinks of all the boxes!
ReplyDeleteIt's a blessing that her foot has recovered to the extent it has, Bushlady. Otherwise, we would not have been able to do this. Dancer seems surprisingly uncurious about the boxes! I think he is more disgruntled over the fact that we moved his coffee table (one of his favorite nap spots) aside to make room for the boxes. LOL.
DeleteCongratulations on her successful trip home. A box mountain will be fun to tackle!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Anne. We did another run to the U-Haul center and picked up more boxes so the box mountain grew a bit. :D
DeleteSo glad she is home safely! What fun to have her back. I bet you are really happy.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sharon. I am so happy to have her home, again. :)
