Homegrown Asian Pears |
I've been harvesting a few Asian pears from my tree, a couple at a time. There aren't that many of them and they aren't very big, but, we are enjoying them.
We've been having some warm temperatures and I've discovered that I am not quite as tolerant of high heat as I once was! Once the temperature goes above 95F, I find myself going into the bedroom and turning on the a/c and I stay in the cool room for the rest of the afternoon. The past three days, however, the highs have been only in the mid to upper 80s and I've not needed the a/c.
Daughter started decluttering her bedroom, over the weekend, starting with her closet. It's been years since she last went through her closet; she has clothes from when she was in high school and while she still likes them, they no longer fit her. She has decluttered several big trash bags worth of clothes and passed along a few items to me, should I wish to keep them. There are also a few items she has asked if I could mend or alter, so I will be working on them over the next several weeks.
In the meantime, I have been keeping myself occupied with watering the garden (M is taking his annual two weeks of summer vacation), general housework (lots of laundry as I am washing the quilts and blankets and putting them away for the summer), and taking naps!
I did finish reading the e-book on decluttering and "space making" ("The Mindful Art of Space Making: How to Declutter When You're Overwhelmed by April Scott Tandy that I had borrowed from the library. I've watched the author's on-line videos and was already familiar with her method, but, it was an interesting book to read. Now, I need to put those tips to use.
Today, I am grateful for:
- The temperature was a very comfortable 84F
- Working appliances
- New bed sheets (A set of bed sheets bought on sale a while back and never used until now)
- Phone chats with family and friends
- Having my daughter home
Today's joyful activity was enjoying a small bowl of ice cream.
Plans for Thursday include making a couple of phone calls, booking a couple of appointments, folding and putting away laundry, and giving the garden another drink of water. Exciting stuff! LOL.
How is your week coming along?
I have found I am not as tolerant of anything as I have gotten older.
ReplyDeleteI am glad your daughter is home and making headway on her room. Son3 still has a lot of junk in his former room's closet. I suppose someone who has taken 8+ month to clean out the room of horror (which is still not finished) can't really throw stones.
In that case, I'll freeze this winter because I'd be a whole year older by then! :D
DeleteDaughter has been working on her room for one hour each evening after work and has made quite a lot of progress. I now have several bags of donations to go through to see if I want anything. So far, I've acquired one dress (I got rid of one dress from my closet in exchange) and a sweater (I got rid of one long sleeved blouse in exchange). I might end up with a whole new to me wardrobe!
Once you've got your room of horror under control, then, you might be able to nudge your Son3 about his stuff. :)
I have never eaten an Asian pear, they do look tasty. Busy with granddaughter today. So housework being ignored [again]
ReplyDeleteGrandchildren take priority over housework! I don't have the privilege of having grandchildren, yet, so, I have to focus on housework. :)
DeleteMy week has been very HOT!! Looking forward to driving north to some cooler temperatures tomorrow - the Normandy coast is between 7 - 10° cooler than here.
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoy the cooler temperatures up north, FD. Have a lovely holiday.
DeleteGetting a new wardrobe without going to a store is the way to do it. I don't like shopping, in general, and especially not for clothes.
ReplyDeleteI don't like clothes shopping either, June, especially after the surplus clothing store, where everything used to be quite inexpensive, closed. I'd say that about 50% of my current closet consists of clothes given to me by my cousins who like to shop. :)
DeleteThere's something fascinating about watching decluttering videos or reading a book on the subject. I haven't heard of that particular book, but I'm sure that like most, it has something new to offer as well as the tried and true wisdom.
ReplyDeleteDecluttering videos and books can be motivational and different approaches make sense at different times. Currently, I am learning to "curate my clutter"! :D
DeleteIt's such a relief when the temperatures are lower! I wonder how similar are Asian pears to European ones?
ReplyDeleteYes; I am someone who used to love the warmer temperatures as I get cold easily, but, this year, I am finding that even 95F/35C is starting to feel uncomfortable.
DeleteAsian pears (also known as apple pears or nashi) are crispier than European ones, I think. They are also firmer in texture when ripe.
Those pears look delicious!
ReplyDeleteI like the sound of that book. I'll have to see if my library has a copy.
Thank you, Sharon. We enjoyed the pears.
DeleteI like this author's views on decluttering; I hope your library has a copy.
