Making Progress

Before

This was the second shelf of the family room bookcase.  This shelf held books about quilting/patchwork, knitting, sewing, crocheting, and "one stroke" painting.  These were the books that had been left after previous decluttering sessions.   I enjoyed looking through them even though I didn't look through them all that often.  But, I am on a mission to reduce the amount of items I possess.  So, I've been trying to declutter my books, going through each book and asking myself if I really needed to keep it.  Was I really going to make any more of those projects?  Would I be able to find ideas for similar projects online?

Here is how the shelf looks now:

After

I might switch things around once I've finished decluttering this bookcase.  But, for now, I am happy with how this shelf looks.

If you are decluttering, too, are you starting to see signs of progress?

  1. That's a great declutter of books Bless and the shelves look so much better for it.. I did that quite a few years ago and I'm sure I could lose more of the books I kept back if I tried.

    1. Thank you, Eileen. I, too, had gone through and decluttered my books, earlier, but, I am ready to declutter them even more, now. The time seems to be right for me to do so. :)

    1. It does feel good to have some space on those shelves, Bushlady. I'm not planning to acquire any new stuff, but, I might rearrange the shelves with some other items that are stored or displayed elsewhere. :)

  5. I've noticed a huge difference following my decluttering, this year. And this week, I've managed to unintentionally declutter one of my plants. I think I might have overwatered it. Xx

    1. I'm glad you are seeing a difference after your decluttering, Jules. I'm sorry about the unintentional decluttering of your plant, though!

  6. You are really making a dent in your crafting books. Look at the space on that shelf! Nice airy space :)
I remember getting rid of most of my knitting and crochet books. And I had a ton of magazines too. Gosh. So Much Stuff.
I am still decluttering. I think I have done 12 items so far for October so far.
Today I decided to get rid of 2 old fans I just don't use and have never used. I got them at a yard sale. I guess I thought I might've needed them by now but I haven't. We have the 3 fans we use all of the time in the warm weather and also a spare fan for the guest room for when we have company. I think that's enough.
I don't need the "in case" fans.

    1. Letting go of the craft books is really hard for me. But, I'm trying to be realistic and the top two shelves are mostly done. I might go back and remove another couple of books from the top shelf, but, I'm still thinking about it.
Well done getting rid of the 2 old fans. You've reminded me that I still have the old broken fan although I bought a new one to replace it! Need to get it out!

  7. It sounds as if your efforts are making you feel unburdened, so time well spent! (Of course, now you have more shelf space to dust! Swings and roundabouts! Hehehe!) :o)

    1. Thank you, Lady Ella. The actual decluttering is difficult, but, I am feeling better about doing it. Ha, ha, yes, more shelf space to dust! At least, until I fill them up, again! :D
