July Meal Planning: Week 3 Review and Week 4 Plans

This was the meal plan for Week 3:

Brunches: Waffles and beef curry (Monday)✔, sandwiches (tuna salad, egg salad✔, peanut butter✔, cheese, pot roast✔ or beef curry), milk and cereal, uppuma (Indian style cream of wheat), gata (Armenian sweet pastry)

Dinners: Leftovers/made overs✔; coconut roti with beef curry; maybe macaroni and cheese with tuna or ham (there's a box of mac and cheese that needs to be used up); chicken curry (from the freezer)✔ with rice and vegetable curries.

And this is how it worked out:

Monday:
Brunch - Waffles and beef curry
Dinner - Rice, beef curry, cucumber salad

Tuesday:
Brunch - Egg salad sandwich
Dinner - Baked chicken, salad, and part of the baked potato that neighbor S had given

Wednesday:
Brunch - Slice of bread with peanut butter; followed by the last leftover waffle, later
Dinner - Rice, beef curry, vegetables, peach chutney

Thursday:
Brunch - Slice of bread with the rest of the egg salad; side salad
Tea - Gata and dried/preserved apricots
Dinner - Leftover rice, beef curry, peach chutney, followed by grapes and yogurt

Friday:
Breakfast - Gata
Lunch - Cold roast beef (sliced pot roast) sandwich
Dinner - Deli sandwich (chicken or turkey cold cuts, cheese, lettuce, and tomato) and chips from the open house

Saturday:
Brunch - Toast with peanut butter
Dinner - Leftover pot roast and vegetables with the rest of the baked potato sliced and pan-fried

Sunday:
Brunch - Uppuma (Indian style cream of wheat)
Dinner - Chicken curry and freshly baked bread; blueberry muffins

Blueberry Muffins and No-Knead Bread
(It was cool enough to bake, on Sunday)

I had kept meal planning to a minimum and it worked out quite well, I think, with bonus dinners from neighbor S and T's open house!

Moving on to this week:

Brunches: Bread and cheese (Monday), blueberry muffins, scrambled eggs and fried potatoes, pancakes

Dinners: Chicken curry and bread (Monday), chicken curry with rice and vegetables, macaroni and cheese with tuna or ham, the last of the pot roast and fried potatoes, teriyaki chicken drumsticks with rice and vegetables, leftovers

That is the plan; we'll see how it all turns out!

Did you do a meal plan for last week?  If so, how did it work out?  Are you making a meal plan this week?

  1. Your meal plan worked out well with the added bonus of kind gifts of food and your baking always looks delicious.
I bought a large chicken for last weekend and was disappointed that it tasted quite dry and even Tilly turned her nose up at it. I used it up in a curry and that was OK. I have my next grocery delivery this afternoon, I usually go by the use by dates and what's on offer.

    1. Thank you, Eileen.
So sorry your chicken tasted dry and even Tilly turned her nose up at it! Good that you were able to make it into a curry and that turned out ok. Lots of gravy/sauce would have helped to make the chicken moister. Hope your grocery delivery includes all the items you ordered. I'm debating if I want to do another grocery order before the month is over, myself. :)

  3. I always have to look up recipes and how to's when I read your menu. I think I need to go to our local Indian market and do some shopping.

    1. LOL. If you want to try making uppuma, you can use regular boxed cream of wheat (that's usually what I use). I've posted a "how to", with some rather blurry photos, here:

    1. Thank you, Sharon. Yes, flexibility is the key. I tried planning a specific meal per day, but, that didn't work that well for me. I am doing well with the budget, too; still have a bit over half of this month's budget left!

  5. I always meal plan (see today's blog!) because it helps with the shopping. But I often forget to check what I already have in the cupboard so end up with multiple tins of things. This week I'm planning to use up some of those tins & jars. Your meal plans always look good. Love FD xx

    1. Thank you, FD; I checked out your meal plan and it looks great! Lots of vegetarian dishes, too (I really need to add more vegetables to my meals! I used to have a friend who'd comment on my meal plans and ask where are the vegetables!)
I usually shop the sales and plan my meals around what I've bought (as opposed to plan my meals and then, buy the ingredients). And then, I buy multiples of sale items and stock up. :)

  6. Looking good this past week as far as your food. I see that box of macaroni and cheese has been shifted to this week lol
Your baking looks delicious. You've taken care of your bread shortage with some delicious things.

    1. Thank you! Yes, the mac and cheese was moved to this week! I actually have 2 boxes, instead of just one!
I'm very pleased with my bread baking! It didn't rise as much as it should have, but, it's tasty. :)
