Dancer Finds a Cool Spot for a Nap

Today, we went up to 97F and Dancer found himself a cool spot, under my desk, for a nap!

My daughter left for a conference in Boston, today.  We both woke up early, by 5:00 a.m. and she called me before she left to go to the airport.  She was flying out from San Francisco and the airlines had wanted passengers to be at the airport two hours before the flight departure time, which was at 8:00 a.m.  She took a ride share to the airport and was at the airport in good time.  It was a five hour flight and, because Boston is three hours ahead of us, reached there around 4:30 p.m. eastern time.  She will be at the conference until Tuesday and will fly back to San Francisco on Tuesday night.

I had been planning to wake up early and make tomato chutney, but, I had had about two hours of sleep, so, I went back to sleep!  So much for chutney making!  Instead, I picked more tomatoes that were ripe to add to the ones I've already picked!

In the afternoon, neighbor T's daughter K called me to let me know that the open house was scheduled for this evening,  6:00 - 8:00 p.m.  The realtor had already left a flyer on my front door, yesterday, so I told K that I was aware of it.  She urged me to attend the open house, so, in the evening, I went over and introduced myself to the real estate agent.  She had trays of deli sandwiches and small bags of chips set out, along with bottles of water, for anyone who wanted some.  I was not planning to eat anything, especially since I had my mask on (I noticed that I was the only one with a mask), but, she urged me to take some home with me, so I took a sandwich and a bag of chips.  I had them for my dinner, along with some grapes to round out the meal.  Breakfast had been the second gata that S had given me and lunch was a cold roast beef sandwich, using slices of the pot roast I had made, earlier.

M was here in the evening and he watered the garden for me, pruned the pomegranate tree, and redid one of the planters - the succulents in it had grown so much that it had become top heavy and the planter had toppled over on its side!

I started on a decluttering project, today, but, I'll post about it in a separate post, tomorrow.

Today, I am grateful for:

- Daughter had a safe flight to Boston and safe rides to and from the airport
- More tomatoes from the garden
- M's help with the garden
- It's warm enough to wear my summer dresses
- Free dinner thanks to the open house, next door!

Today's joyful activity was picking more tomatoes.

Plans for tomorrow include making that chutney before the tomatoes rot.

How was your Friday?  What are your plans for the weekend?

  1. That was nice being invited to the open house event and being given food to take home. I hope your daughter enjoys the conference and I'm sure your chutney making will wait until you're ready hopefully tomorrow. I hope Dancer feels chilled in his spot under your desk.
I'm going to watch the England football match on the TV this morning, will you be the following the Women's World Cup?

    1. Yes, it was nice to be invited to the open house and to get food, too! It was well attended and I think the house will sell soon.
It's much cooler this morning at 78F/26C (at almost 10:00 a.m.) and a forecast high of 90F/32C. That's very comfortable for both Dancer and me (and chutney making). :)
I watched the first hour or so of the England vs. Haiti match, last night, long enough to see England score their goal. It aired at 2:30 a.m. my time, and I went to bed around 3:30 a.m. I like watching soccer, but, not enough to record it to watch later.

  2. Our cats are struggling too! Jim is especially fluffy, so he seeks out cool spots on the tiles to lie, especially if there's a through breeze. I'm sure that one day you'll get to make that chutney! Do you have a slow cooker/ crock pot - maybe you could make it in that instead, so you wouldn't get as hot as using the stove top. Or borrow one from a neighbour, perhaps?

    1. Yes, cats find it hard to keep cool in the summer!
I am bound and determined to make that chutney today! :D I do have a crock pot (a really old one), but, I've never made chutney in it! My chutney usually requires a couple of hours of cooking until it boils down to the right consistency. Wonder how it might turn out in the crock pot?

  5. Dancer looks to be staying cool! I've not had good results using the slow cooker to make something that needs cooked down. But I've only used it with the lid on, so moisture doesn't evaporate. Can it be used without the lid? Tomato chutney sounds really good. What do you put in it?

    1. Dancer knows how to keep cool! I suppose the slow cooker could be used with the lid off...I just haven't tried. Mine is a really old, circa 1978 avocado green crock pot and it is a pain to wash because it doesn't have a removable pot that can be taken out to wash. As a result, I rarely use it! I can't give it away because, I wrote my daughter's name on it when I had to take something to a potluck meal at her child care center with a permanent marker that is definitely permanent! :D
Tomato chutney has tomatoes, vinegar, ground dried red chilies, mustard seeds, garlic, ginger, and sugar. It is like a very spicy tomato jam!
I have a very old post here (horrible pictures because, back then, I used my computer to take pictures):

  6. Dancer is a very sensible cat, finding somewhere cool to have his nap. My two always finish up lying in the warmest part of the house! Not that they have that problem just now. It feels almost as though autumn has arrived! Xx

    1. Dancer says he's one cool cat! :D Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that it has cooled off so much! Hope you still get to enjoy some warm summer weather before it is time for autumn to arrive!

  7. Dancer looks nice and cool.
Your daughter must be home safely from her trip to Boston. I hope her professional life continues to go well.
Haha - more food for Bless from T's house. lol
Was anything done to T's house to "stage" it for sale? How did things look? I'm always so nosy ;).
I have my fingers crossed that you get nice (quiet) neighbors.

    1. That seems to be his new favorite spot for afternoon naps!
Daughter arrived back late last night (her flight was delayed), but, yes, she's back safely. Thank you for the well wishes. :)
Yes, more food! It was delicious, too (I don't normally buy deli sandwiches, so, something different!)
The only thing they did to get the house ready was paint it white inside (it was painted an off-white/cream earlier, and looked a bit dingy once the pictures, etc., had been taken down) and plant a few flowering plants outside. It was empty of furniture and absolutely no "staging". It was listed as a "fixer-upper". I sent you an email. :)
      Thank you; I hope so!
