Mirabilis/Four O'Clocks |
We are already mid-way through this month! The days are going by too fast for me!
Cousin P called me, yesterday; her daughter had her baby on Sunday. Cousin's daughter sent me some photos and Baby Boy looks cute, of course.
I had a relaxed day, yesterday. M tended to the garden in the morning and I did a little paperwork, cleaned the litter box, watched the news and some TV programs, and sewed! I measured the quilt top and decided that I could add another row of crumb pieced squares on either side to make the top a little wider.
Late last night/early this morning, around 2:45 a.m., my daughter texted me to tell me that they had just had a small earthquake, measuring 2.9, in Berkeley. Apparently, it was the third earthquake in and around the Bay Area this week! It wasn't a big earthquake, but, Berkeley sits right on top of an earthquake fault and this was another reminder that we live on shaky grounds!
I had another relaxed day, today, too, sewing. I am actually making a dent in my pile of scrap fabric! The only problem is, I don't have much to write about, as a result! The weather has been partly cloudy with daytime highs in the mid-80s. I've enjoyed the cooler temperatures.
I'm grateful for:
- Cousin's daughter had a safe delivery and a healthy baby
- This morning's earthquake was small and didn't cause any damage
- Time to sew
- Keeping in touch with family and friends
- M tending to the garden for me
Joyful activities have been playing with fabric!
Plans for tomorrow include more sewing and tending to the garden with M.
How was your day? What are your plans for tomorrow?
How satisfying it must be to see that fabric stash being used & for such a beautiful project. Glad to hear your daughter is safe. I think an earth quake would certainly be scary no matter how small or big. I hope you have another enjoyable busy day of sewing.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mary-Lou; I am enjoying sewing down the stash! :D The problem with earthquakes is one never knows if a small one is a precursor to a bigger one, if not The Big One that we've all been told to expect! But, if one lives in earthquake country, then, one must expect earthquakes! :D
DeleteYour mirabillas are very pretty. I have some that are white and more boring than the colors you have there. However, they seeded quite freely from one plant last year and I have a lot of them.
ReplyDeleteThank you, June. I don't have any white ones and I wish I did! These plants seed themselves and as long as they get water and the temperatures are mild enough, they will grow and flower. They also develop yam-like roots if they are allowed to grow undisturbed and new plants will grow from those yams, the following year. :)
DeleteA day that nourishes you with the relaxation of the sewing sounds like a good thing to me.
ReplyDeleteThe thought of an earthquake is terrifying to me. I hope that you are staying safe.
That's what my daughter said, too, Lyssa; she said she is loving that I am spending my days sewing.
DeleteEarthquakes are scary, because you just don't know if a small one is a precursor to a bigger one, if not The Big One we are told to expect! But, we expect them to happen from time to time. :)
Lovely flowers, and happy news about your cousin's wee grandson. I haven't been checking on earthquakes for a long time now, I'm into flight paths, especially as some days we have a lot of planes overhead.
ReplyDeleteI hope there won't be another earthquake to follow this one.
You mentioned the anniversary of 9/11 in a recent blog, and I have been watching "Come from Away", a musical play which tells the story of all the planes that had to land in Newfoundland. It is very well done and quite moving.
Thank you, Bushlady. I have heard of "Come from Away", although I haven't watched it. I know that Canadians and many others around the world came to the aid of all the airline passengers from the planes that were grounded, that day.
DeleteYou had a nice day of relaxation enjoying sewing your lovely quilt which is good. Earthquakes are scary, so glad your daughter is OK. I've only lived through a minor one, I put my hand on the bedroom wall and i felt it move, a very unusual event here in the UK.
ReplyDeleteI've had a couple of very relaxing days, sewing, Eileen. My daughter said I looked happier! :D I find it almost meditative, sewing these scraps of fabric, together. :)
DeleteEarthquakes are scary because you really don't know if it will be a big one or not. I didn't realize that you had earthquakes there, in the UK!
I'm so glad to hear that your daughter is okay. I've only experience one earthquake here and this one was really minor. It's not something we expect in the UK so we don't have to maintain earthquake supplies in the way that you have to.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you had a relaxing day sewing and especially the lovely news about your cousin's baby grandson.
Thank you, Eileen. :)
DeleteThat must have been quite a surprise when you felt an earthquake! I didn't even know that you had earthquakes in the UK, until Eileen from Deja Brew II mentioned it in her comment, yesterday! Hopefully, it was just a one time thing!
Your pot of flowers looks remarkably good considering your hot temperatures you've had of late. You must be taking especially good care of it.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad the earthquake near your daughter's home wasn't more serious. Does she have emergency supplies along the lines of what you have?
Good idea to widen the quilt a bit with more crumb blocks.
All the plants sort of perked up after that shower of rain we had! :D
DeleteYes, my daughter has emergency supplies and she has a "grab and go" backpack with all the necessary stuff if she needs to evacuate her building (she's had to do that when there have been fire alarms going off, etc.).
I have just finished making the additional crumb blocks and will be attaching them, today. :)
