I put gas to the car on my way to the clinic. Gas was $3.43/gal. at the cheaper station; it is a lot more at other stations in the neighborhood and over $4/gal. at stations closer to downtown. I put $40 worth of gas. Then, I drove to the clinic.
There was a short wait, which I didn't mind. They always say to come 15 minutes prior to the appointment time and I usually get there 10-15 minutes before that, so I expect to wait. Usually, I take something with me to do while I wait, some knitting, perhaps, or a book to read. There's is usually a crossword puzzle book in my purse, as well. Today, however, while I waited, I watched news coverage of the shooting in Maryland on the television set in the waiting room.
The mammogram itself went well. The technician, once again, exclaimed at how red and swollen the whole area still is from the radiation treatment (radiation ended in August 2016). And the oil cyst is still there, too, quite visible in the images. She had me wait in the dressing room until the doctor reading the images had said they were OK (in the sense that they were readable and she didn't have to redo anything); then, I was told I was done and could get dressed and leave.
By this time, it was past 2:00 p.m. and I was getting hungry! I had taken a granola bar with me, just in case, but I decided I wanted something more. I was tempted to buy a hamburger on the way home, but decided not to. Then, since I was passing by the fish and chips place, I debated whether to get fish and chips. But, again, I decided not to. Instead, I came home and made myself a tuna salad sandwich:
Lunch: Tuna Salad Sandwich |
There was just enough lettuce left for the sandwich! I was very tempted to open the bag of potato chips and have some with my sandwich, but I resisted!
After lunch, I rested a bit and then, ran an errand that I had been putting off. I had collected some items to donate to the animal shelter; I finally took them there, today. Next on the agenda of postponed tasks it to sort through the rest of the donations and call for a pick up!
After I came back, I had a cup of tea and had some of the mini multigrain crackers. I had just finished watching the evening news when daughter called and we had a long chat! She had gone shopping after work, at the Japanese store, and, among other items for herself, she had bought me a present:
Kitty Cat Mugs! |
I had planned to get some housework done, but I didn't do all of them. Instead, I decided to cook dinner. Yes, I had leftovers from last night's dinner, but I wanted some rice and curry! So, I cooked:
Meatball Curry |
Sauteed Cabbage (with curry powder, etc.) |
Fried Pappadum (lentil wafers) |
And I cooked some rice.
Dinner: Rice and Curries |
As you can see, I cooked more than enough for one meal. I will pack some of it for my lunch, tomorrow, and probably freeze some of the meatball curry for another time. After dinner, I did the dishes (some by hand and some in the dishwasher).
Today, I am grateful for:
- Time off from work to attend medical appointments
- Getting my mammogram done
- Validated parking (had to pay only $3, with the validation)
- Safe drives to the clinic and animal shelter and back
- Daughter thinking of me and buying me a gift of mugs!

ReplyDeleteYour food, as always, looks so tasty. I've never thought of doing a meatball curry so may follow your example and try one. Will pork meatballs be okay, as I can't eat beef?
Thank you, Eileen.
DeletePork meatballs should be fine. Or any other type of meatballs (turkey, etc.) The ones I used were a mixture of beef, pork, and turkey, I believe. I sautéed them in a bit of oil, while still frozen, added onions and tomatoes, curry powder, chili powder, and other spices, a little salt, and a mixture of coconut milk and water, and brought it all to a boil.
We had tuna today too! (But we also had potato chips...lol). Glad you got your mammogram visit done and hope it turns out fine.... and glad you got that 7 hours of sleep! Andrea
ReplyDeleteGlad you got to enjoy some chips with your tuna, Andrea! I might have resisted the chips, but I had pappadum, which is just as bad!
DeleteI'm glad your mammogram went well but too bad that the redness and soreness continues after so long.
ReplyDeleteThe mugs are the cutest - Dancer and a lady friend!
I often cook oven fries and fish on a Friday, it is my easy meal of the week, but we are into a heat wave and I cooked some frozen salmon in the microwave instead, with microwaved small potatoes in their skins, and I cooked carrots and dressed them with butter and maple syrup. More work but actually much nicer to eat! Your curry meal looks so delicious.
I'm into Monarch butterfly activity again, it's that time of year. I found tiny caterpillars on some milkweed outside today, and the other day I rescued two eggs on a small milkweed plant that I pulled from the lawn. I have it in a small vase and both eggs have hatched! I am going to move these caterpillars to plants outdoors when they are bigger.
Thank you, Bushlady. Yes, the redness continues, and, at one time, both I and the oncology nurse practitioner were a little concerned about inflammatory breast cancer. But the cancer markers are good, so, we just figured it was a result of radiation burn.
DeleteHa, ha, yes, Dancer and a lady friend! :D
Well done on rescuing and hatching the butterfly eggs! I once found a caterpillar in the garden when daughter was in preschool and we put it in a jar with leaves and she took it to preschool. They got to watch it become a moth, not a butterfly. For at least a couple of years afterwards, whenever she saw a moth, daughter would say that was her moth! :)
Good for you getting rid of your donations. That is a very good feeling for me when I can get the purged items out of the house, because it does tend to be one of those tasks you put off. It does give a feeling of accomplishment.
ReplyDeleteI guess you DID do some cooking, but a good example of cook once, eat twice (or in this case, eat 3 or 4 times). Those meatballs look really good, and I could eat them happily with the shredded cooked cabbage. Yum. Great job resisting eating out today, and look at what you accomplished.
Thank you, Susan. Getting the bags of donations sorted and a pick up scheduled is on my To Do list for this weekend! I've bags piled up in the spare bedroom and bags piled up in a corner of the family room and it is starting to look like a mess!
DeleteYes, when I have the energy, I like to cook enough for at least 2 or 3 meals. Then, I get to relax for a couple of days and cook only if I want to! Also, if I am tempted to get fast food on the way home, I can tell myself, I have some good options at home! Unless, I am really craving whatever it is! Then, I'll get it. :)
Good for you for resisting take out and cooking at home. If I were hungry, I don't think that is something I could do.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Live and Learn. It is only because I have been eating out a lot, lately, and my weight has been going up! If I had been truly hungry, I would have eaten the granola bar I had with me, or, lacking that, picked up something to eat.
