An Inspirational Poem and Today's Happenings

Poem Card (plus Dancer's paws)

Several years ago, I received two cards with inspirational poems, when I purchased an item from a store selling religious items.  I have kept these cards with the booklets of prayers that I carry with me in my handbag.  I would like to share this poem with you.  I don't know who wrote it - the card doesn't give a name.  There is, simply, a "VC 278" printed at the bottom of the card, along with "Litho in Italy".  The other card has a different VC number.

 May you have

Enough happiness
     to keep you sweet,
Enough trials
     to keep you strong,
Enough sorrow
     to keep you human,
Enough hope
     to keep you happy,
Enough failure
     to keep you humble,
Enough success
     to keep you eager,
Enough friends
     to give you comfort
Enough wealth
     to meet your needs,
Enough enthusiasm
    to look forward,
Enough faith,
    to banish depression,
Enough determination
    to make each day
    better than yesterday.

*************************

Today, I went to the office as usual.  Called the primary care doctor's office to notify them that I've been scheduled for surgery tomorrow.  Called the surgeon's office, as directed, to confirm tomorrow's appointment, verify time, other instructions (fasting, not even water, but take blood pressure meds, etc.)

During my morning break, I went to the pharmacy to buy some Tylenol to keep on hand if needed for post-surgery pain (the surgeon said they'll prescribe a pain med., as well, but I can take Tylenol once the prescription meds are over,; not that I take a lot of pain meds - the last bottle of Tylenol I had in the cabinet for "just in case" was almost full and had expired September 2011, when I checked, last night!)

After work, on my way home, I stopped at a store to buy a packet of tea bags.  Then, came home and there was a message from the hospital, pre-admissions unit, asking me to call them back to answer some questions to make the registration process quicker, they were open till noon.  Well, I didn't get home till 7:30 p.m., so I will have to call them early tomorrow morning!  There was also a call from the surgeon's office, asking me to call back (no message as to why they were calling); it was the same person I had spoken with in the morning.  Well, I'll be calling them in the morning, too, I guess.  Hopefully, she wasn't calling to say the surgery can't take place tomorrow, after all!  :o

And then, my daughter called.  She was at the airport, but her flight, supposed to leave at 8:55 p.m. has been delayed by two hours!  She won't reach home till midnight!  As long as she gets a safe flight tonight, or, even, early tomorrow morning.  That's all that matters!

Originally, our plans were that daughter will drive me to the hospital and back.  However, one of the monks from the temple volunteered to drive us to the hospital and back.  When I demurred, he insisted, saying daughter will be under enough strain, as it is.  I think, she will also be too tired!  So, I am glad he will drive us.

Today, I am grateful for:

- Prayers and caring thoughts
- Inspirational poems
- Phone calls and messages
- Someone to drive us to the hospital and back
- All the love that has been showered upon my daughter and me

I don't know if I'll be able to post tomorrow.  I will post an update as soon as I am able to, however.  Probably on Saturday.

Until then, may everything be well with each and every one of you.

  4. Thanks for sharing that beautiful poem. Reading about your Thursday reminds me of busy times before going on a trip and how good it is finally to settle down in the aircraft, unable to do any more but let the journey take its course. I think that finally heading into the OR must be like that in some ways, although not as pleasant. I hope that by now you are resting and able to sleep, and that results of the surgery will show good limitation of the cancer.
How kind of the monk to understand that little Bless would be tired from travel and stressed from her concern about you. So much better for you both to be driven. What a lovely gesture!
