| July Grocery Shopping Part 2 - 7/10/26 |
I ordered groceries on Thursday and they were delivered on Friday, July 10. We needed milk, half and half, and bread. I was also out of cucumbers and yogurt and wanted to get some, along with another carton of eggs. And, I wanted to get my free pound of butter! In addition, we decided to get some cold cuts and hot pockets to make some easy meals and, of course, ice cream bars as a treat! Just about everything I bought, except for the milk, half and half, eggs, and bread, were on sale or offer with digital coupons, etc.
I didn't need to buy any meat this week, so that helped to keep the grocery spending low.
In addition to the groceries, I also bought a bottle of white glue and two packets of glue sticks which are crafts supplies as they were on a "back to school" sale. Their prices are reflected in the receipt below, but, I've identified them in blue as non-grocery items and I've deducted their prices and the sales tax for them from the grocery total.

The store has been giving fuel points to custobers for the longest time to be redeemed at participating gas stations, but, those stations tend to have higher priced gas and the gas would still cost more, even with the application of the fuel points, than what I've been paying at the gas station I've been going to. So, I never bothered to take advantage of the fuel points. However, starting this month, they are now letting customers apply those fuel points towards groceries, with 100 points being equal to $1.00, which is great! I was able to convert 200 points I had accumulated in June to this week's grocery bill and received $2.00 off (noted as "order coupons" in the receipt below).
According to my calculations, the coupons and sales enabled me to save 39% of the original cost of this grocery shopping order.

With three more weeks to go in this month, I am in a good place as far as the grocery budget is concerned with approximately $50 a week to spend on groceries.
As always, I am grateful for:
- The availability of groceries
- Sales, coupons, and weekly specials
- Being able to order groceries online
- Being able to have the groceries delivered (the current sciatica flare up has highlighted the benefits of signing up for deliveries; otherwise, if would have been yet another thing on daughter's list of things to do!)
- Convenience foods! Yes, they are ultra processed, high in calories, fat, and salt, not the healthiest food, etc., but, they help to make things a little easier.

It's so nice that you and your daughter are living together so that you can help her when she needs it and she can help you when you need it. And one of the good things to come out of the pandemic is widespread grocery delivery that you can both take advantage of.

DeleteI can't beat your price for eggs, but when my neighbour brought over my order of 2 dozen, she gifted me a large zucchini, 4 small cucumbers and a small romaine lettuce, all freshly picked, so I did well, didn't I?
ReplyDeleteYou definitely did well with your order of eggs from your neighbor, Bushlady. Not only did you get the fresh eggs (which are probably organic; mine were not), you also received all those lovely fresh produce, as well.
DeleteZucchini is selling for $1.49/lb. at the supermarket ($2.19/lb. for organic).
Cucumbers are $0.49 each ($0.79 each for organic)
So called "mini" seedless cucumbers are $3.99/1 lb. pack and "baby" seedless cucumbers are $2.99/8 oz. pack.
Persian cucumbers are $2.29/lb.
English cucumbers are $1.99 each or $2.99 each for organic.
Romaine lettuce is $2.79 each, an 18 oz. bag of Romaine lettuce hearts is $4.99, and a 2 count bag of so-called artisan Romaine lettuce (looks like small Romaine lettuce hearts), is $2.99.

This is wonderful! I absolutely love store sales! We no longer have coupons here, it's been decades now, but thankfully the stores do have weekly sales. You do such a great job on your budget, dear friend.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Linda. The coupons I use are digital coupons that I load to my store loyalty card from the store website. I am very thankful for the weekly sales and the digital coupons as they help to keep the grocery spending to a reasonable amount. :)

ReplyDeleteI've made some great savings on my shopping recently. The supermarket I use has offered £5 off a £15 shop each time England or Scotland has played in The World Cup. X
Some of the schools start in August over here, so, back to school sales have already started. :)

ReplyDeleteOur store also gives grocery points equating to dollars. They also have bonus items and things like "spend over $40 get 120 points" things like that. I like to play along ;)
