| Jars of Peach Jam |
Tuesday evening, after daughter finished her work day, we had a jam session! Yes, we made a batch of peach jam for gifting this holiday season. I like the 4 oz. jars when making jam to give as gifts as I plan to make about three varieties of jams from homegrown fruit and a set of three small jars filled with three varieties of jam makes a nice gift, I think. Daughter helped with the jam making and I'm pretty sure that she will be taking over the jam making in the future.
In addition to making jam, I did a load of laundry, made some phone calls to schedule a medical appointment and to have our damaged yard waste bin (the lid has broken off) picked up and a replacement yard waste bin delivered, next week, and cooked a dhal curry.
I had toast with peanut butter and pineapple jam for brunch on Tuesday and daughter finished the fried rice I made on Sunday. Dinner was rice, chicken curry, green beans, the last of the okra, dhal, and peach chutney (a previous year's batch).
We were both tired after making the jam and washing up and cleaning the kitchen, afterwards. But, we are happy to have all the jars of jam cooling on the dining table and listening to the pings as the jars sealed.
On Tuesday, I was grateful for:
- Several jars of peach jam
- Daughter's help with making the jam
- Getting several tasks crossed off my to do list
- Getting started on making my holiday gifts
- Working appliances
Tuesday's joyful activities included jam making with my daughter.
Plans for Wednesday include going for a lab test, M tending to the garden, and processing more peaches!
How was your Tuesday? What are your plans for Wednesday?

I used to really enjoy making jam with a friend. You and your daughter must have had such fun! The people who receive this as gifts are so lucky!
ReplyDeleteMaking jam together was fun. She now knows the basics of making jam should she want to make some in the future. Next up is showing her how to can peaches. :)
DeleteThat is a great Christmas gift idea . What are the other flavors you plan on making?
ReplyDeleteThank you, Anne. Giving homemade jam and chutney has become one of my holiday traditions. I am planning to make blueberry jam and calamondin marmalade. :)
DeleteNothing better than jars pinging when you've been canning! I'm sure the jam will be appreciated by whomever the recipients will be.
ReplyDeleteThere was just one jar that didn't seal, June, so that has been put in the fridge for our own use. I usually give the jam to my family and friends. They all seem to like my homemade jams and chutneys. :)
DeleteWhat a lovely gift idea. I've never made jam, and wouldn't know the first step to take! It's great that you do this with your daughter.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Celie. Making jam isn't all that difficult and there are lots of recipes and videos on line if you want to try making some. :)
DeleteWe currently have a shortage of pectin here. Bottled is still available but powder has disappeared. Seems to be some (inter)national supply chain issue. Apparently other countries are affected too. I am wondering whether to ask Laurie to see if she can bring some when she comes nonetheless. Worth a try.
ReplyDeleteI hope you are able to get your powdered pectin soon, Lady Ella. But, definitely ask Laurie to bring you some. I've seen some recipes where they add corn starch/corn flour to thicken jams, but, I've not tried that!
DeleteJam is an amazing gift. Homemade jam tastes emphatically superior to bought jam, and it isn't just the taste but the love that's in it.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you had a very busy day.
Thank you, Lyssa. My family and friends have been receiving my homemade jams and chutneys for so long that they take them for granted, but, I still enjoy making jams and chutneys.
DeleteMy mother never did any canning and I wish she had, because I would have enjoyed watching and learning about it.
ReplyDeleteMy mother didn't do any jam making or canning, either, Linda. I'm mostly self taught. But, I'm enjoying showing my daughter how to can so she will know how to do it. There are lots of videos online if you want to try canning. :)
DeleteDelicious! And what a great way to use your fruit. Peach jam always used to be my favourite, but I haven't eaten any in years. What a thoughtful gift idea. X
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jules. Peach jam is like a bit of summer sunshine in a jar, isn't it? :)
