| Spring Roses |
On Sunday, I spent a little time in the garden. The roses in the back garden are starting to bloom. Of course, they are flowering during our heatwave and getting dehydrated by the end of the day, but, it was slightly cooler on Sunday (a high of 82F) and I was able to take some pictures of them before they turned crisp!

These rose bushes were bought as bare root plants from one of the big box stores at least 30 years ago. Many of them died over the years, but, a few hardier ones continue to bloom, year after year. They had names at one time, but, I didn't retain the name tags and I no longer remember what their names were. They have a faint fragrance and I love their appearance.

There are two different pink rose bushes growing next to each other. The second bush might be some type of double rose:

There is one more pink rose bush, but, it's flowers were already fading, so I didn't take any pictures. However, the white rose standard that M rescued and rehomed in my garden is doing well:

I also planted three potatoes that had started to sprout - we'll see if they grow. I had another potato growing elsewhere in the garden, but, something ate the potato tops!
On Sunday, I ordered more groceries to be delivered on Monday. There were fewer deals, this week, but, beef chuck roast is on sale for $5.99/lb. and I ordered two, one to cook now and one for the freezer. I'll do a grocery post once the order has been delivered.
I made tuna salad sandwiches for brunch and for dinner, I cooked spicy sauteed potatoes ("ala thel dala") to have with leftover rice, chicken curry, kale mallung, and moringa curry. We had sesame and jaggery candy for dessert along with grapes (me) and mandarins (daughter).
Daughter and I have been invited to my late friend A's younger daughter's engagement party. I am planning to wear a sari and on Sunday, I tried on some of my sari blouses to see which ones fit me. Whichever sari blouse that fits me will determine which sari I will be wearing! I found that one of my blue sari blouses still fits me provided I made a slight adjustment to the sleeves. So, I unpicked and adjusted the sleeves, handwashed the blouse and hung it up to dry. I will iron it, tomorrow. I have a blue and silver sari that I can wear with it.
On Sunday, I was grateful for:
- The warm, if slightly cooler, weather
- The roses blooming in my garden
- Being able to order groceries
- Being able to sew
- Daughter watering the garden

My joyful activities included spending time in the garden and sewing.
Plans for Monday include doing laundry, watering the indoor plants, and taking the trash cans to the curb.
How was your Sunday? What are your plans for Monday?

Beautiful roses. The pink ones are classic.
ReplyDeleteI do the same thing when I have to go somewhere fancy-try on various combinations of clothes to see what fits and looks good.
Thank you, June. I am enjoying the roses.
DeleteGood to know that you do the same when you have to dress up - try on what you have to see what fits and looks good. :)
Your roses are beautiful. Spring has finally arrived, so my mom's garden should be waking up soon (we're in Toronto). I don't garden though, lol! Sunday was restful, and I am glad for that. I have another restful weekend coming up, before I start to go out a lot again!
ReplyDeleteThank you, jj. I'm sure you are glad that spring has arrived and I'm sure your mom's garden will look lovely once the plants start to grow and spring blooms appear. I'm glad you've enjoyed a restful Sunday and have another restful weekend coming up before you have to go out a lot again. Hope you have a lovely week. :)
DeleteThe roses are beautiful! I am taking a break from housework to catch up on blogs, then I plan to do some sewing
ReplyDeleteThank you, Angela. Enjoy your sewing. :)
DeleteBeautiful pink roses in your garden. I hope the weather cooperates and their blooms don't suffer.
ReplyDeleteThat's a good way to determine what to wear. I think your sari and blouse sound really pretty.
Thank you, Debra. Really love the roses that are blooming right now.
DeleteI like to wear saris when there is an occasion, but, my weight has fluctuated so much that finding a blouse that both fits and matches the sari becomes a problem. Sari blouses are usually form fitting. I can sew my own blouses, but, now that my favorite fabric store has closed, it's harder to run to the store to find a matching fabric. Online shopping for fabric really doesn't appeal to me.
It's nice to see the two shades of pink roses. The white "rescue" roses have done really well.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Bushlady. I'm quite happy with the white rescue roses. I don't mind the fact that the faded rose petals drop and "make a mess", which apparently was the reason M's client didn't want it in her garden! LOL.
DeleteYour roses are gorgeous. Lots of gardens used to contain roses when I was growing up, but they can't be as popular these days, as I never see them any more. Xx
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jules. I had a garden full of roses, but, the majority of them died during a really bad drought due to water restrictions and I didn't replace them. But, the few that have survived and the couple of roses M has given me are doing well.
DeleteSuch beautiful roses. They all look as though they are growing really well!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sharon. They seem to be growing quite well. :)
