On Saturday

Azure Bush Germander

This is another plant that M brought me a couple of years ago.  He wasn't sure of the name, but, said it was very drought tolerant once established.  One of my blog friends, Bushlady, helped to identify it after I posted a picture of it on the blog.  It has been growing quite well in my garden, in full sun.

Saturday was another windy day.  I was bothered by sciatica pains in my right leg all day, so I didn't do much.  Standing and walking hurt; sitting with my legs elevated was better, so, that's what I did!

I added a few more patches to the Log Cabin quilt, replacing a few more of the shirt fabric pieces that looked like they were worn out enough to tear.  I think I have replaced about 90% of the shirt fabric pieces.

Then, I sorted through my scrap fabric stash (the smaller pieces) and the contends of the basket with mending projects and condensed the contents of the two baskets into one.

Then, I took out another quilt to mend!  It is a quilt I had sewn in 1980 and mended previously, in 2015 and 2022 although I didn't finish repairing it until 2023, by which time I had replaced over 40% of the triangles!

Triangles Quilt - April 2023

Well, it is March 2026, now and at least 5 triangels have developed tears and need replacing.  So, I cut 6 triangles from my scrap fabric stash and started to sew them over the torn triangles.

Brunch had been patties, reheated in the air fryer.  For dinner, I finished the stringhoppers, chicken curry, and the coconut milk gravy (called kiri hodhi) the boiled egg came in.  Daughter decided to have the leftover pizza for her dinner.

After dinner, I ran the dishwasher and chatted with friend R.  I also called friend S and left her a message offering her lemons if she wanted any.

On Saturday, I was grateful for:

- Tylenol for the sciatica pains
- Heating pads
- A lovely, sunny day
- Working appliances
- Leftovers and treats

Saturday's joyful activities included mended my quilts.

Plans for Sunday include continuing to mend my triangles quilt and catching up on blogs!

How is your weekend coming along?

  1. Good for you for your continued efforts in mending the quilts. I probably would have just cut around the torn parts and made pillow shams or something similar. But I may be more impatient than you. 😀

    1. Thank you, June. I didn't think of cutting up the quilts to make something else, probably because the torn pieces are sort of distributed all over the quilts. They probably just need to be disposed of, but, we still use them and I guess I'll continue to repair them for as long as I can. :)

  3. Hopefully some rest will help the sciatica. That is a lovely quilt! I also had googled (right after my comment ) Sri Lankan restaurants in the twin cities, and found a couple! Maybe some time I will get to one.

    1. Thank you, Celie.
Yes, I'm resting and daughter is doing a lot for me. I am also taking some Tylenol as needed and trying to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
Maybe you can plan a trip to the twin cities and try a meal at one of the Sri Lankan restaurants there. :)

  4. The triangle quilt is so lovely. It's amazing that you can mend it so well.

I hope that your sciatica eases up. It's excruciating and I'm glad that you had painkillers.

    1. Thank you, Lyssa. I am sewing on new triangles over the frayed triangles. Occasionally, I've sewn diamonds and at least one large hexagon! :D
The sciatica is painful, but, it's not quite as painful this time as it was when I had it back in 2021, when I would scream in pain!

  6. Yes, I hope the sciatica sorts itself out. And I love homemade quilts but I have said that so many times you can't possibly have forgotten! :)

    1. Thank you, Lady Ella.
I love making quilts. I enjoy sewing the patches together more than the actual quilting, itself. As a result, most of my quilts are tied or very minimally quilted. I wonder if Baby Oleg would like a quilt?

    2. I'm sure he would love one, if he knew what they were. We had better not show him! He has just been to visit his cousins and is now asking why he has to share a throw with his siblings, when the cousins have a blankey each!

    3. Oops! We will not tell Baby Oleg about quilts, then! Sounds like you might have to get busy making some blankies to go around! :D

  8. I hope the tylenol gave you some relief from your sciatica pain.
You are a quilt mending maven! I'm very impressed. I have one that needs mending but I don't think I've touched it for a year now.
Thanks for the reminder to work on it.
I made granny squares during our bad weather. So I'm putting them together now for a blanket.

    1. Thank you, Debra. The tylenol and plenty of fluids helped and the sciatica flare up has calmed down.
I think I've replaced about 90 percent of the triangles on the quilt! But, daughter loves that quilt because it is so soft (and it was my mother's favorite quilt, too), so, I will keep repairing it!
Hope you are able to mend your quilt, too, maybe after you finish making your new blanket. Looking forward to seeing pictures of the new blanket once you're done. :)
