An Afternoon Tea Party

Afternoon Tea

Daughter held her afternoon tea party for her friends on Sunday.  She had invited them to arrive at 1:30 p.m.

Daughter made the sandwiches in the morning.  I especially liked how the the cucumber sandwiches looked while she was making them:

Cucumber Sandwiches with Dill and Chives

I helped her with arranging the food on the plates and doing the last minute preparations including picking chives for the cucumber sandwiches, ironing the table cloth, for the coffee table, picking fresh flowers for the vase, etc.

One friend arrived just before 1:30 p.m. and the friend whose birthday they were celebrating arrived shortly after 1:30 p.m., which was fine.  I stayed in the family room while they sat in the living room and chatted and enjoyed their tea.

Then they moved to the family room/crafts room to work on their craft project and I retreated to my bedroom, where I knitted and watched some online videos.

They put together a "book nook" from a kit that one of the friends had gifted to my daughter.  It depicts a train (No. 315) on a bridge over a river with cherry blossoms:

It's hard to tell from my pictures, but, there are two people on board the train!

So Detailed!

It took them hours to assemble the book nook!  At one point, I suggested to daughter that she ordered a pizza or something for dinner, but, her friends didn't want anymore food as there were leftovers from the tea and daughter gave them some of the leftovers to take home, too.

They were here till after 8:00 p.m.!  The friend whose birthday was being celebrated stayed behind to help daughter tidy up the family room/crafts room and she left just after 8:30 p.m.

Daughter put away the last of the leftovers and I helped her by washing all the dishes.  We ate sandwiches and leftovers for dinner and relaxed.  Daughter was tired, but, very happy and I was happy, too.

On Sunday, I was grateful for:

- Daughter being able to host a tea party for her friends
- The sound of laughter as daughter and her friends enjoyed each other's company
- Daughter having some good friends who I know will be there for her
- Good food to share
- A lovely day all around

My joyful activities included helping daughter with the tea party and knitting.

Another Look at the Afternoon Tea Spread

It was a tiring day, but, everyone enjoyed it.

    1. Thank you, Lady Ella. The girls enjoyed themselves. They've been friends for a long time, now.
I spoke with neighbor S on Monday and she said the dog did belong to one of my neighbors and she was able to give the dog back to them. They are the same neighbors whose chicken used to be in my yard all the time.

    2. Of course! :D
They have had their big tent up since Saturday - their Saturday party wasn't too loud, thank goodness, but the fact that the tent is still up means they are planning to do something either on Thanksgiving or the upcoming weekend.

    1. It was a lovely afternoon, Jules, and the food was all very tasty. Most importantly, her friend with dietary restrictions was able to partake of just about everything.
If you like to do puzzles and build things, then, book nooks are a fun 3-D puzzle to work on. :)

  7. What a wonderful post. I really enjoyed hearing about all that went into it and how the day unfolded.
That little book nook craft is delightful! As you said, such detail! I think I can see the shadowing in the picture of where the little people are. lol
And the food - oh my goodness. And such nice pictures. I especially like the wide shot which included your sofa and pillows.
    Really lovely.
Tell your daughter from me, "You did a good job!"

    1. Thank you, Debra. I will tell my daughter. She put a lot of thought and effort into the tea party and she was tired at the end, but, she enjoyed it, too.
The book nook looks wonderful. Daughter actually received two kits of the same book nook, by two different manufacturers, from two friends, in two different years! LOL. They obviously saw the Japanese theme and decided it was meant for daughter! She hasn't assembled the other one, yet.

  10. Sounds like a fun day! The tea looks lovely. I have thought about doing one of those things like the book nook but they look so difficult and seem like they need patience, which I don't seem to have a lot of these days.
I hope you and your daughter have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

    1. Thank you, Sharon. It was a fun day and the girls enjoyed themselves.
It took them about 5 hours to assemble the book nook. My daughter says if she was doing it herself, she would have done small parts of it at a time and taken several days. You might also do that - work for 30 minutes or so at a time until the entire thing is assembled.
