Relaxing on Saturday

Slightly Blurry Red Rose

Saturday was a sunny day, with a high in the low 70s.  Once again, I spent quite a bit of time out in the garden, checking on the plants, doing a spot of weeding, etc.  There was a mockingbird on one of the overhead wires, who had a lot to say!  There was a pair of crows, too, who checked out one of the overgrown Euphorbia tirucalli (pencil tree, pencil cactus) "trees" along the back garden wall; perhaps they were considering building a nest there?

I took it easy, after all the stress on Friday, and watched online videos, played some games, etc.  Dancer kept me company, in between his naps:

Watching the Sunlight Play on the Wall

Later in the evening, I spoke on the phone with Aunt C and video chatted with my daughter who spent the afternoon at a dress rehearsal for the UC Alumni Chorus spring performance, which will be held on Sunday (she's a second soprano).  She only started singing with them this spring, so this will be her first performance with them.

Brunch was leftover pancakes and sausages from Friday's dinner.  Dinner was ham fried rice, made with leftover rice, ham, green peas, a scrambled egg, and some dry roasted peanuts added at the end.  Now I have leftover fried rice for Sunday's brunch!  I made some fresh lemonade to have with my dinner.  Yogurt for dessert.

On Saturday, I was grateful for:
- A sunny and warm day
- Daughter had fun at the dress rehearsal
- Phone calls from family and emails from friends
- The garden
- Dancer keeping me company

Saturday's joyful activities included spending time in the garden and video chatting with my daughter.

How was your Saturday?  What are your plans for Sunday?

  1. Such beauty in your garden! The red rose is so full and the color is rich and vibrant.
Congratulations on your daughter’s nomination for the work award. It’s nice to be appreciated by peers and recognized for success. It sounds like she’s having fun with the chorus.
Saturday turned into a beautiful, sunny day. If that was First Communion day for your cousin’s grandson, then they were in luck. I’m sure it was nice whichever day it was.
My sister and I ran errands together Saturday morning, including donating books to a library sale. Husband and I took mother-in-law to Queens for German food at a restaurant there. We drove by the building where my father-in-law grew up. We all love our memories.
We plan a quiet Sunday. I had an early walk with the dogs and everything is blooming! ☺️

    1. Thank you, Taconix. The garden is at its peak right now, I think and my daughter was thrilled to be nominated at work. :)
Sounds like you had a lovely Saturday, running errands with your sister and then, going out to dinner with your husband and MIL. I hope that Sunday has been a lovely day, as well.

  2. Sounds like a relaxing day was just what you needed. It's what Dancer has been doing most days. :)

    1. Thank you, June; we should all take a hint from Dancer! He has claimed daughter's bed as his and he is usually found napping, there!

  3. All your recent rose photographs are beautiful. It must be uplifting to see them thriving in your garden. (I know they are what remain of a bigger collection but still.) I'm glad you had a relaxing day and were able to unwind after all the recent stress. As if it's not bad enough to discover your data has been compromised, having to jump through hoops to address it and being met with incompetence/intransigence is very disheartening. Glad your daughter was able to support you and get it sorted (although taking authority from a third party is another interesting development...)

    1. Thank you, Lady Ella. I'm loving looking at the garden, right now (weeds and all!) :D
I was very grateful for my daughter's help with the credit monitoring process. It shouldn't be that hard, but, even she agreed that it was challenging.

  4. I hope that your daughter enjoys the concert and that it goes well. I am nostalgic for the time when I sang in a large choir! Dancer is concentrating hard on the sunlight. I wonder what is going through his mind?

    1. Thank you, Bushlady; she said the concert went well and she enjoyed it. I think Dancer was wondering how he could catch that light! :D

  5. All your roses are gorgeous! So are your other flowers as well. It's turned cold here again, back to freezing. I'm looking forward to when it's warm enough to work in my garden. I ordered annual seeds, which arrived yesterday. Youi daughter is very talented! I hope she has a good concert. It should be such fun for her!

    1. Thank you, Celie. Oh, not! Not back to freezing! I hope it warms up soon and you can plant your flower seeds. Thank you! Yes, she said the concert went well and she had a fun time. The choir is off for the summer, but, she is considering re-joining in the fall semester.

    1. Thank you, Debra. I love that red rose!
Yes, I needed the day to relax and recover from recent stress!
My daughter said the performance went well; she was happy because she hit a note that she had struggled with, earlier! :)
