The Front Garden in April

The Front Garden on April 23

It looks almost like I trimmed the two bottom corners of the picture, but, the driveway is in the left corner and the right corner is the sidewalk!

Top: Lantana
Middle Row: White Sage, plants in the bed along the walkway to the front door
Bottom Row: Purple fountain grass, agave, osteospermum

The star of the garden, right now, is the pomegranate tree which is full of flowers:

This is the parkway in front of my house, that I keep talking about - the pole in the middle is a parking sign, saying no parking on Thursday mornings for road sweeping.  The parkway belongs to the City, but, homeowners are responsible for maintaining it.

Here's how the garden looked in January:

Not a lot of change over the first four months of the year!  How are your gardens coming along?

  1. Your garden and home look really lovely. I agree it does look like you trimmed the photo at the top until you explained :) We haven't done anything with our garden for the last couple of years apart from keep it tidy, grass cut and weeds pulled up. Hubby said to leave it this year as well as young Tilly keeps going in the raised beds and there's no stopping her :)

    1. Thank you, Eileen. :) Sometimes, especially if one has pets, keeping the garden tidy with the grass cut and weeds pulled is the only thing one can do and it is quite enough! :)

  2. Everything looks so nice! Thank you for showing us your front garden. I always enjoy "walking" around your yard.
And looking at your garage in one of the pictures, I know that it is nice and tidy inside lol :)

Your plantings look very happy in their spots and the pomegranate tree flowers are such a lush red. Just beautiful.
How are the newly planted grasses doing? Is there any new growth from the crown/base?

Has anyone else around you successfully planted their parkway bed? They are called hell strips for a reason!

    1. Thank you, Debra. Glad you enjoyed a stroll around the front garden! :D Yes! The garage is still tidy! :D
The newly planted grasses are starting to show some new growth! It's hard to see, but, they are coming along!
Yes, there are one or two houses with beautifully maintained parkways. They all seem to be on the opposite side of the road from me, though! Some of my neighbors have paved over the parkway, the others have let it go to weed.

  3. Thanks for the garden tour.

Everything is greening up here and we're in the spring blooming time. It's all very pretty. A beautiful time of the year.

  4. Your garden is looking lovely and now I understand what the parkway is. Your pomegranate tree looks good with all the flowers. Mine on the other hand isn't looking too healthy at all, has lost most of it's leaves but doesn't look completely dead ... I am keeping my fingers crossed.

    1. Thank you, Eileen. Yes, I thought a picture of the parkway would be helpful because I have a hard time describing it. It has to be maintained in a manner that people can get to and from their vehicles when they park them; originally, they used to be planted with grass, but, with our droughts, we are encouraged to conserve water and xeriscape.
Your pomegranate tree might have gone into dormancy. Mine tends to lose all its leaves in the fall and then, leaf out again in the spring. Your plant was flowering in the winter, if I recall, so, might be a bit confused! Give it time and see if it shows new growth later, in the summer.

  6. Actually, I see quite some variation over the months! Such colour and exuberance - it must be a joy to come home to. (I know you don't go out much, but you know what I mean.) The close-ups are wonderful and the succulents look so exotic. There was a big feature on them on Gardeners' WOrld this week (not that I suppose it airs there). The pomegranate tree is a real showpiece. Enjoyed these pics!

    1. Thank you, Lady Ella. You are right, there are some changes and I did add the 3 agave plants and 5 clumps of fountain grass! I do enjoy seeing the garden and the flowers when I come home (or, just simply go outside). The succulents are coming along, nicely! I'm hoping that all those pomegranate flowers will result in some pomegranates, this year! :)

  7. Well, you certainly have "curb appeal", as the realtors like to say. Your garden is wonderful and I'm sure passers by must enjoy seeing it. Between you and M you have created a garden to be proud of.
Our soil is warming up and I've recently noticed two tulips coming up, but I have to check for more. It is warmer today so DH has fetched up the vinyl roof to the screen gazebo and installed it. It feels like we are progressing out of winter!

    1. Thank you, Bushlady. Every now and then I think it just looks untidy, because things are not planted in neatly landscaped areas, but, at this point in time, I'm just glad that things are growing! :)

Sounds like things are starting to warm up in your area and spring is finally making an appearance! Enjoy the warmer weather! I'm seated outside in my patio area, as I type this, listening to birdsongs and enjoying the 84F weather (the house is cooler at 72F)

    2. I think it is because it is not in perfectly constrained areas that it looks so lovely! Formal flower beds are strictly for parks and government buildings, IMHO.

    1. Thank you, Lyssa. The front garden gets baked in the summer; it's a bit of a challenge to get anything to grow there!

  9. Your front garden is lovely. It looks to be flourishing under you an Ms care. Your parkway looks like mine, except perhaps mine has more weeds! Xeriscaping yours would be lovely, if your neighbors would respect it! Hope and try. Best, Celie.

    1. Thank you, Celie. It's coming along and we keep trying to bring some color with minimal watering. M just weeded the parkway on Friday! I am now thinking that maybe I should have planted the purple fountain grass clumps in the parkway. Maybe it's not too late to relocate them!
