Another sunny and warm day, today.
In the morning, I called the gas company and scheduled another furnace check. The earliest they can come out is next Thursday and it is a non-specific time service call; if I wanted the technician to come during a specific time period such as morning or afternoon, then, the earliest they can schedule is November 17. I chose next Thursday. I'll be home all day, anyway.
I thought I would wait until the gas company came out before I called the furnace people, thinking that if the gas company said something was still wrong, then, that would validate and give extra weight to my concerns. But, I think I will call them, tomorrow, anyway; I turned on the furnace, this evening, and there is definitely a delayed ignition! I am wondering if the plastering caused some dust to collect inside the furnace as dust is supposed to be one of the causes of a delayed ignition.
The rest of the day went well for the most part. I chatted with my half-sister and called to check on friend R. Took down the Halloween decorations and put them away (decluttered one decoration). Later, my daughter helped me to schedule our flu vaccines (scheduled for Monday). She also gave Dancer his flea prevention medications as he wouldn't let me give them to him!
Today, the sideboard we had ordered was delivered and my daughter assembled it, in the evening, after work. It took her almost four hours to do so because the cordless screwdriver I had bought a long time ago had run out of battery power (it has a rechargeable battery, but, I don't have a battery charger!) so she had to use a regular manual screwdriver to assemble it! She did a very good job putting it together. It will go in the family room and will replace the old computer desk and a plastic shelving unit that I have set up in the corner by the sliding glass door. The old computer desk has some shelves for storage, but, it is all open shelving and everything is visible. My daughter says I need covered storage to reduce the visible clutter. The sideboard has two cabinets (with doors) on either side and a set of three drawers in the middle, providing lots of covered storage! I took a before picture and will take an after picture once it is in place. We also ordered two floor lamps and she assembled those, too.
Today, I am grateful for:
- Daughter's help with so many things
- The gas company will check the furnace next week
- The new piece of furniture was delivered and assembled
- Chatting with family and friends
- A productive day
Today's joyful activity was watching daughter assemble the sideboard!
Friday's To Do List:
- Call the furnace people; ask them to send a technician to check the furnace
- Clear the old computer desk
- Clean that corner of the family room
- Ask M to help take the old computer desk out
- Call for a bulky item pick up
- Practice the piano

Assembling things from a box always take longer than you think they should. Even the seemingly simple things have a lot of pieces. I'm looking forward to seeing your before and after pictures.
ReplyDeleteThank you, June. The time taken to put the piece together included taking the mostly assembled piece apart and reassembled when it was time to insert the back board, because the two side pieces had been inverted!

DeleteI called the furnace company, this morning, and they will send someone over on Monday; I turned the furnace on this morning, and I didn't notice the flame bursting out. I am wondering if some dust got inside there when the plastering was done and that is what is causing the delayed ignition.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that there is a quick and simple solution to the problem with the heater. I think I'd let the heater company know about the problem as soon as possible so that they are aware that this has happened so soon after installation.
ReplyDeleteWell done to your daughter for assembling the new furniture. I've done that before with an ordinary (manual) screwdriver and it's not easy. On a scale of 1 - 10, how tired was she when she'd finished?
Thank you, Eileen; I called the furnace people this morning and they will send someone out on Monday (they said they'll call if they can make it sooner). I am thinking that the delayed ignition is due to plaster dust (both daughter and I looked up causes for delayed ignition, last night, and of the different causes, dust seems to be the most plausible).
DeleteI, too, have put furniture together with manual screwdrivers and I agree that it's not easy! I also have a difficult time with figuring out assembly diagrams! I prefer written directions! My daughter is better as reading diagrams, but, even she had the two sides inverted and had to take the whole frame apart and reassemble when she discovered the mistake! I'd say she was pretty tired at the end of it, although she was very happy with what she was able to accomplish. The fact that she took herself off to bed just after midnight was an indication of how tired she was! :D
You did have a productive day. Oh I'd love to see the new sideboard all set up... I didn't know you played piano? I love the piano. I could kick myself for not sticking with the lessons when I was a little girl but my teacher was a little bit of a nut job so it was really hard to go to him every Saturday. Id still love to learn again though... Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Robyn. I took piano lessons as a child, then, gave them up; I resumed lessons a couple of years ago. My neighbor across the street is teaching me. :) I hope you will be able to resume your lessons, too. Hope you, too, have a lovely weekend.
DeleteI hope the furnace problem turns out to be the dust from the plastering which sounds a likely cause and that should be easily remedied. My last two pieces of furniture I chose ready assembled and I'm glad you had your daughter assemble yours for you as it can definitely be a tricky job.

DeleteI think, if my daughter wasn't here to assemble furniture for me, I will pay extra to have it assembled! I used to be able to put stuff together, but, my daughter is convinced that I'll throw my back out or injure myself in someway if I try to do it now!
Your daughter did a good job assembling that side board with a regular screwdriver. I hope the instructions were good so that she didn't have to figure out too much while putting it together.
ReplyDeleteHow can I convince the blue jays to stop filling their beaks with the sunflower seeds and emptying the feeder? It really isn't fair, the chickadees are so polite and only take one seed at a time! We've run out of sunflower seed now and need to buy some tomorrow. In the meantime there is a fat cage and some shelled peanuts in a feeder and some of the seed they are not too keen on. I did see some sweet little birds taking seed out of the bee balm seed heads in the front yard.

Like the others, I'm looking forward to seeing the finished unit! And waiting with bated breath to hear the conclusions to the heater questions. After all that deliberating and upheaval, to still be in the same position is frustrating. It makes you wonder if the old one was OK after all!

DeleteAs for the furnace, I, too, am waiting to see what they have to say! With my luck, the furnace will behave beautifully when the technician comes to check on it and start without any delayed ignition or flames spurting out and he will think I am an old fool who is imagining things! Sigh.

ReplyDeleteYou mentioned friend R not feeling well from her booster. How is she doing? We got ours (Moderna) and had zero reaction other than the slightly sore arm you usually get from a needle.
I always find it interesting how different people's stories vary.
It has turned out to be the perfect piece of furniture for that spot, Debra. You'll agree when you see the pictures. R is feeling well, again. I'm glad you had zero reaction. I will be scheduling mine, soon and hope I will not have any delayed reaction like I did with the 2nd dose (sciatica pains!) I got my flu vaccine earlier this week and only had a slight sore arm for a day; daughter, on the other hand, felt very sore and achy for a couple of days!
