The Weekend

Stringhoppers

Stringhoppers with Chicken Curry

I finally managed to delete enough items from my phone to allow it to transfer pictures again!  Yay!

For those who asked what stringhoppers were, the pictures above are of three stringhoppers, by themselves and with chicken curry.

My daughter arrived safe and sound on Friday night.  On Saturday, two of her friends took her out to lunch and, afterwards, they went to the Getty Museum.   These are some of the photos she took:

Blue and White Porcelain
She said the blue and white porcelain reminded her of my collection!

Early Microscope
She said she was fascinated by this early microscope (she majored in microbiology in undergrad).

While she was at the museum, I did my blog posts, watched news, and continued to crochet on my rag rug.  M brought me more succulents cuttings for the garden, as well.  Later, I made coconut roti (flat bread) for dinner (with chicken curry) as that was what my daughter requested.  She also asked for boiled mung beans for breakfast, so, I put mung beans to soak in the night.

Today (Sunday), I cooked the mung beans and we had that for brunch.  I mended a few items of clothing that my daughter brought home for me to mend and I decluttered one more sweater from my closet (gave it to my daughter).  In the afternoon, neighbor S's two daughters came over to hang out with my daughter and watch old DVDs of their dance recitals (they used to take dance classes together when they were kids).  They brought us more chocolate chip cookies and the lebkuchen cookies that I like.  Reminded me of the days when they were growing up and they were at my house or my daughter was at their house all day long, playing.  I made tea for us all and watched some of the dances with them.  Then, they wanted to see pictures of themselves in my scrapbooks and, before they left, I took a picture of the three of them, together.

Later in the evening, daughter and I went to pick up some Thai food from our favorite Thai food place for dinner.  It drizzled a bit on the drive there, but, it had stopped by the time we came home.

This weekend, I am grateful for:
- Having my daughter home for a few days
- Her childhood friends spending time with her when she visits
- M bringing me new iris bulbs and succulent cuttings for the garden
- Fun memories the old dance DVDs bring
- Cookies!

Today's joyful activity was watching old dance DVDs with my daughter and her friends.

Tomorrow is my daughter's birthday.  Our plans include going out to lunch (probably to a Cuban restaurant) and, in the evening, she will go out to dinner with one of her friends (probably to a nearby Japanese restaurant).  I plan to do a little housework while she's gone.

Monday's To Do List:
- Change bed sheets
- Load of laundry (bed sheets/towels)
- Dust living room & dining area
- Clean the fridge
- Take trash cans to the curb for Tuesday trash pick up
- Water the garden, front and back

Room/Area of the week will be the dining room and laundry room.  My room of the month is the kitchen.  I will dust the dining area and maybe wipe the tops of the washer and dryer as part of my area of the week and cleaning the fridge will be my rotm cleaning.  If anyone one is joining in the cleaning cycles, remember you are supposed to spend no more than 15 minutes or so in that area or room.

How was your weekend?  What are your plans for Monday?

    1. My daughter says thank you for the birthday wishes. :)

I wish I could send you some stringhoppers, but, I don't know how good they'll be by the time they reach you! You'll have to eat your fill when you go home. :)

    1. Thank you, Live and Learn. She's been coming home for her birthday ever since I forgot to wish her for her birthday, one year! LOL!

  3. Warmest birthday wishes for your daughter. It sounds like you had a perfectly wonderful weekend, both you and your daughter. Isn't it wonderful when our kids come home and bring their childhood friends around to the house like old times. They are the best moments. And having your newly finished scrapbook to share with them all was probably a highlight. Now you have another photo of the three of them together now to put in the book.

    1. Thank you, Susan. Yes, it is wonderful to have her home for her birthday and have her friends come over.

No, I won't be able to scrapbook the new photo because my daughter will not print out new photos and I don't know how to print out the ones I take with my phone! I have a few loose photos lying around in drawers, etc., which I hope to gather together and scrapbook, but, that will be the end of the scrapbooking, I'm afraid. Unless, I figure out a way to print my photos.

    2. How about going to one of the tech places and asking them to tell/show you what to do? Or ask S's daughters if they can help you? Please wish your daughter a very Happy Birthday from me.

    3. Thank you, Eileen. I've conveyed your wishes to her. :)

Well, apparently, I need to buy some special photo printing paper for the printer and I should be able to print the photos! I think a trip to the craft store is in order!

  4. Coconut roti sounds delicious, Bless. What is the recipe? During my ashram years, decades ago, we made hundreds of chappatis over an ash fire, each week.

    1. I don't have a precise recipe, as such, Ratnamurti, but, in general, if I use a 227 g. packet of frozen grated coconut (that's the size I am able to buy these days), I generally add about 2 - 2 1/2 cups of flour, about 1/2 - 1 tsp. salt and 3/4 to 1 cup water. You want to mix it all into a dough that forms a smooth ball, but, does not stick to your hands, adjusting the amounts of flour and water as needed. Here's a link to a post I did about making the roti, using a smaller amount of grated coconut:

      Hope that helps.

    1. We do have fun when we are together, Stephenie. :) The old dance DVDs were fun to watch. Later, my daughter messaged our former dance teacher to tell her that we watched the DVDs and she was so touched (she closed the studio and moved out of state and that's when we stopped taking dance classes).

  7. Sharing memories is always fun and I bet those friends of your daughters are precious to you just as she is. I hope she had a lovely birthday.
We drove off to the big city yesterday for DH to visit the periodontist, so that took care of most of the day. This morning I made a start on the kitchen, top downwards is my idea. So I dusted the light fitting, then dealt with that top cabinet dust collector and also cleaned the top of the fridge. I cleaned some copper items and switched around the decor on top of the cabinet. Thus inspired, I fetched up a decorative jug and artificial flowers from the basement windowsill and switched it with the wooden vase and contents on the front hall cupboard. Time for lunch now!

    1. It is fun to share memories, Bushlady, and yes, I've known those friends of my daughter's since they were born! I've watched them grow, too, into the young women they are, today.

Sounds like you've had a couple of busy days! You accomplished a lot in the kitchen cleaning! Top down is a good way to proceed. :)

  9. I'm always having to delete items from my phone to perform other tasks, yet I still have no intention of replacing it until I really have to. X

    1. I managed to delete enough stuff that it allows me to transfer the photos, for now. I am in the process of transferring most of them to the computer with the idea of not storing anything in the phone. :)
