All's Well on Thursday

I didn't want to go to sleep, last night, but, finally, around 3:45 a.m., I felt tired and went to bed.  I had double checked all the doors and windows and made sure everything was closed properly.  I slept well.  Daughter's text, around 9:00 a.m., wishing me a good morning and asking how everything was, woke me up.  I texted back that all was well and slept for another hour or so!

It was a cloudy, overcast day, but it didn't rain.  I had a relaxed morning, rejoicing in the blessing of a safe night, having a cup of tea, replying to everyone's kind comments, doing my own blog rounds, etc.  The grocery circulars came in today's mail, finally, and I took a look.  I really don't need anything, but, one store is having fresh pineapples for $.99 each, which is a good price.  My daughter loves fresh pineapple (she doesn't like canned pineapple) and she's coming home, next weekend, so, I might buy one, or maybe even two, and keep for when she comes home.

In the afternoon, I did a little paperwork, paid a bill, and read a bit.  Later, I aired out the house, walked a bit in the garden, did the dishes, watched the evening news, knitted, and cooked the salmon that I didn't get around to cooking, yesterday (kept one salmon steak in the fridge for me and froze the rest for daughter to take).

Lunch was a tuna salad sandwich.  I was hungry, again, by 6:30 p.m., so I decided to have an early dinner.  It turned out to be a three course dinner!  Tomato soup for a starter, followed by an entree of the rest of the pork chop which I didn't eat, yesterday, after all, with green beans and the last bit of frozen corn, and the last piece of papaya for dessert.  Later, I had some yogurt and almonds for a snack.

I've had a bit of a headache, most of the day, today, I think from all the tension from yesterday's excitement.  Or, maybe a lack of sleep.  I think I will try for an early night, today, meaning, being in bed before 1:00 a.m.!

Today, I am grateful for:
- There were no unexpected surprises when I woke up!
- Doors and windows that were closed remained closed!
- A quiet, relaxed day
- Phone calls from family and friends
- Video chatting with my daughter

Plans for tomorrow include having friend M check on the pieces of wood I put in the windows and plant the bean and pea seedlings that have sprouted!

How was your Thursday?  What are your plans for tomorrow and the weekend?

  1. I'm with your daughter. I like fresh pineapple, but not canned.
What a treasure you have in friend M. Sounds like he can do anything and comes frequently so he can keep up with a lot of little things besides the gardening.

    1. M is indeed a treasure! His late aunt K was my neighbor two doors down from me. When I went to the hospital to have my daughter, and was gone for more than a week, K noticed that the grass in the front lawn was overgrown and got M to mow it! She said he would have mowed the back, too, if he had been able to access it. After that, my mother and I decided we will have him help my mother around the garden - he mowed the grass, dug up new flower beds, one time even dug up some plants from the side of the road at her request (!), took my mother to the bank and temple, helped her with getting the house ready for almsgivings and other events, etc. On the day my mother died, he cooked her breakfast and he was the last person she spoke to before she died (he was planting bean seeds in the garden that morning, when his aunt K came to check on my mother and found her unresponsive). He's been tending to the garden, and helping me with things around the house, at least once a week, for the past almost 26 years! My daughter considers him as an honorary uncle and I consider him as a friend. :)

  2. I'm glad to hear that you managed to sleep last night. I hope your headache disappears soon ... I wouldn't be surprised if it is a tension headache considering the events of the previous night/day.

    1. Thank you, Eileen. The headache lingered all day, but, I had a good night's sleep, again, and it went away. My blood pressure was elevated, too, yesterday (needed to take all my meds for that) and that might have been part of the reason why I had a headache.

  3. Hurray for no unexpected surprises. Maybe something outdoors had startled Dancer the other night, although it's a good idea to have M check on the windows, for extra peace of mind.

    1. Yes, I think Dancer decided to go on an expedition on my daughter's desk, the other night, and it became more of an adventure than he bargained for! LOL.

  4. I like the idea of a 3 course meal spread throughout the evening. You are not really taking in more calories, but spreading them out so that your brain can register the feelings of fullness and you don't go to bed feeling empty. Was that by design?

I am glad you had a restful night and slept well. It sounds like you had a busy afternoon. I feel that way sometimes. I don't know what I accomplished, but I have been busy for hours so I must have got SOMETHING done.

    1. The 3 course meal wasn't really by design, Susan, except that I was feeling very hungry, and so, while the corn boiled, I decided that a bowl of soup would be a good idea. I could have had a salad, instead, I suppose, but the soup was easier.

Unfortunately, the rest of the evening didn't go according to plan, as far as food consumption went - I fell off the low carb bandwagon quite spectacularly! Sigh. Oh, well, today is a new day!

  5. Glad you had no unexpected surprises and equally glad Dancer behaved.
I would be buying at lest one 99 cent pineapple. Does your daughter like home frozen pineapple? I think it is a much better way of saving it. To me canned pineapple has a metal taste.

    1. Anne, I've never tried freezing pineapple! I am going to look into that! I'm sure my daughter would like frozen pineapple, since it would be fresh and not canned.

  6. I'm glad you had a restful night. I hope your headache's all gone by now.

I too don't like canned pineapple. I find it too sweet.

    1. Thank you, Nil; yes, the headache is gone, now. The sweeter the better, as far as I am concerned, so I do like canned fruits!
