November 12 Groceries |
I went grocery shopping, late Sunday morning. I went to two stores. I went to Store 1 because they had advertised 4 lb. bags of sugar for $1.49. But, when I went to the store, they were all out of it! However, I was able to get a rain check and I was told they'll have the sugar in on Tuesday. I bought two packets of hot cocoa (6 pouches in each box) for $.99/box. One for the house and one to take to the office to keep at my desk for those days when I want a warm drink. I spent $1.98 at Store 1.

Then, on my way to put gas to the car ($3.05/gallon; I put $40 worth of gas), I stopped at the grocery store across the street from the gas station and bought bread ($.59), bananas ($.49/lb = $.88), lettuce ($.99), a cucumber ($.50), and 2 mangoes ($.99@; $1.98). I spent $4.94 at Store 2.

I had also spent $4.25 at the farmers' market on Thursday on a baguette and an almond croissant; I am adding that to Week 2's grocery spending.
November grocery budget: $75 + $5.66 (carried over from October) = $80.66
November grocery spending to date: $18.75 + $4.25 + $6.92 = $29.92
Amount left in November grocery budget = $80.66 - $29.92 = $50.74
Lunch, today, was leftovers from yesterday's lunch. For dinner, I thawed and warmed up a packet of meat balls curry and the last of the smoked sausage sauted with spring onions, cooked some dhal curry (lentils), and made a cucumber salad. We had that with rice, mango chutney, and pappadum (lentil wafers). Mangoes for dessert and I had a banana, as well.
The fridge is full of leftovers, once again! I probably won't have to cook all week, unless I want to! I'll be sending some food home with my daughter, too.
Did you go grocery shopping this week? How are you coming along with your budget, so far, this month?
Once again, it sounds like you're eating well at your house. :)
ReplyDeleteThat we are, Live and Learn. I don't do a lot of meal planning, as such, but I have the fixings for salads with chicken for lunches, this week, curries to go with rice for dinners, leftover pork ribs, and chicken & gnocchi soup from Saturday's lunch (daughter only had half of her soup and I didn't have any of mine, yet!) At least a week's worth of food in the fridge, at this point!
DeleteI think one of my goals for next year will be to actually keep track of my spending especially good wise. I think I am going well but I'm pretty sure I can do better.
ReplyDeleteI am at daughters this week so have bought food for her house. I also bought her a turkey for thanksgiving as she won't be with us. She will be having a quiet one with her new boyfriend and his brother. She'll be cooling for them.
Sounds like a good goal for next year, Sharon. I like knowing how much I am spending. I kept track for 3 months or so, before I came up with a budget.
DeleteI popped into the grocery store for some OJ and noticed that they had a special on 4lb bags of apples so into the basket they went, and then I found my favourite cranberry raisin bread on the half-price stand. It had today's date. I buy it, slice it and freeze it, then when we want a slice or two I toast it lightly.
ReplyDeleteI think you inspire me with your cooking. Today I made up a pasta sauce with a little chopped onion and celery sauteed in olive oil, then added part of a can of chopped tomatoes and stirred in some hot spicy barbecue sauce. When it had simmered a while, I sliced and added a large leftover sausage. I served it over the curly pasta and it was pretty good.
Glad you were able to take advantage of some good specials at the grocery store, Bushlady. You are very kind to say that I might have inspired you with my cooking! Your pasta sauce sounds good - glad it tasted good, too. :)
DeleteI love the convenience of having a fridge full of leftovers. :) I did go shopping over the weekend and was amazed at the difference in the prices of produce. I know that the hurricanes and the droughts had a big impact of things, but wow!!!
ReplyDeleteGrocery prices just seem to be going up and up, every time, don't they? I mostly buy whatever is on sale that week and compensate elsewhere. But, what I am noticing is that, even on sale, the prices tend to be high.
