We are having a bit of a heatwave in So. Cal. this weekend. Today's high where I live was 99F, but the house was a cool 75F when I woke up and I managed to keep it at around 82F later in the afternoon, which was quite comfortable for me:

I had half a bagel (plain, untoasted, without any butter or cream cheese) for brunch and made some of what we call mango pickle for an afternoon snack - fresh mango cut up, mixed with salt, sugar, chili powder (I didn't put as much as we normally do), and vinegar:

One of my friends called me to invite me to a prayer gathering she will be hosting next Sunday afternoon. I'd love to attend; I haven't been able to attend any while I was having chemo. But daughter will be visiting next weekend and her flight back is on Sunday afternoon. I'll need to drive her to the airport at about the same time as the prayer meeting. If my friend lived closer, I could still go to her house after dropping daughter off at the airport and not be too late. But it's an hour long drive to her house.
Today, I am grateful for:
- Being able to keep the house at a comfortable temperature even without a/c.
- Phone call from aunt and a friend.
- Video chatting with daughter.
- Ceiling fans.
- Electricity to work the ceiling fans.
How was your Saturday? What have you planned for tomorrow?
Sorry your taste buds are still messed up. Praying they come back to normal , real soon. WHEW.........105 DEGREES, sounds terrible.. We had 98 degrees this week and the heat index was 117.. It was awful. It is so humid here.. Be careful in that heat..
ReplyDeleteWish you could attend the prayer meeting at your friends.. Maybe next time, it will work out..
Hope your having a good weekend.. I haven't done much..Our daughter and granddaughters came Saturday..Was fun having them.. They will also attend church with us today..[They go to a different church than we do]. We always enjoy when they come and go with us. Usually on Mothers day and Fathers day.Or occasionaly Kenny will preach for our preacher, and they will come to hear their daddy.. Our son never gets to come on Sundays [he is a preacher and has to be at his church]. He came on Friday and took us out to eat.. So good to see him. Children are such a blessing..l
Judy, that's so nice that you were able to spend some time with your children and grandchildren, this weekend. I'm sure your husband appreciated it, too. :)
DeleteYes, I will probably be able to attend next month's prayer gathering. A group of family and friends take turn to host the gathering at their houses, once a month.
I'm glad you had a good day and stayed relatively cool! I looked closely at your decluttering photo because the bread book caught my eye. I cannot, for the life of me, seem to be able to declutter my cookbooks although many of them haven't been opened in years!
ReplyDeleteWe have no plans today. Just staying home and enjoying each other's company before my men leave for 2 weeks tomorrow. Reading, videogames, and a little TV watching are on the horizon. I think I'll leave the dishes until tomorrow. So what's new, right? lol.
Have a great Sunday, Bless.
Nathalie, let me know if you'd like me to mail the bread book to you.
DeleteI used to belong to a cookbook club, back in the 80s and 90s. I had so many cookbooks at one time! But these days, one can find so many recipes on-line that cook books are almost not needed. Plus, I don't cook as much.
Sounds like a lovely way to spend the day before your husband and son leave on their trip. Definitely leave the dishes till tomorrow. :D
You are very kind to offer, Bless, but I really need to work on getting rid of stuff and not bring more in, as tempting as it is :)
DeleteI understand. In fact, I wondered if I should even offer, but thought I'll check, just in case.
DeleteMango Pickle? Did you by any chance spend time in Hawaii? Just wondering because that is a staple there. :) I have such fond memories of eating those crunchy mango pickles as a child.
ReplyDeleteOh, I had no idea! No, the only time I've been in Hawaii was at the Honolulu International Airport! But I was born and grew up in a tropical country and mango pickle is a staple there! :D
