Saturday: Family, Friends, and Prayers

Today, I attended a Memorial Mass for one of the uncles in the extended family.  One of my cousins and her daughter gave me a ride there and back, so I didn't have to drive.  It was truly nice to sit and relax while someone else drove.   :)

One of my aunts had requested some leaves from a plant that we use in making curry.  We call it "curry leaves"; it is used in a similar manner as bay leaves.  I have two curry leaf trees in my garden, so I picked a big bagful of leaves to take to my aunt.  This is the same aunt who gave me two big bags of clothes, last week.  In fact, I wore one of the skirts she gave, today, and she blessed me with another bag of clothes (two shirts and three jackets).

At the conclusion of the Mass, they sang, "Take My Hand, Precious Lord", written by Thomas A. Dorsey.  It has always been one of my favorite gospel songs.  I have often sung it, but, today, there was a special poignancy in the words, for me.  It was more than a song; it was a prayer.

After the Mass, members of the family and friends said the Rosary.

Afterwards, we all went over to the home of the aunt whose late husband we were  commemorating, to have lunch.  It was nice to see some friends I don't see all that often.

After I came home, I video chatted with daughter, did a load of laundry, took a nap, watered the back garden, spoke on the phone with several friends and, watched a televised broadcast of the Pope's visit to Philadelphia.

It was another hot day (100+F), but it cooled down in the evening.  Tomorrow is supposed to be another hot day.  Tomorrow, I need to water the front garden.

Today, I am grateful for:

- The opportunity to listen to prayer services
- More clothes from my aunt
- Being able to give some curry leaves from my garden to my aunt
- A ride to today's family gathering and back
- Getting together with family and friends

It was a lovely way to spend Saturday.  Hope you all had a lovely Saturday, too.

  2. While it's not available in W Canada, I've noticed a lot of mainly positive discussion about the low cost mobile provider 'Ting.' You may have an ongoing contract with your current flip phone provider. Seems if you join Ting via referral, both original and new client gets a major price reduction. Perhaps, friends, relatives, neighbours, colleagues, or GON/Organizing Friends can assist. https://help.ting.com/hc/en-us

As an experienced hospital patient, I hope it's ok to bring up what might be useful to an outpatient. Security is an issue so it's important to leave valuables at home. Possibly pack an easy to manage, [often promotional] gusseted about 14" tote bag, with 6" side and bottom whose handles are long enough to go over your shoulder. A small, light weight slice of cardboard can provide sturdiness if desired. If it lacks a closure, add a zipper, lg snap or velcro square.

Since the air is so dry [here] we bring travel sized containers of hand cream [I fill an empty 4" pill cylinder with Lubriderm], mini, travel sz. hand sanitizer, toothpaste, tooth brush and mouthwash. [hospital & airplanes are bacteria scary] I found it helpful to add a lanyard to my phone to keep track of it, find it easily in the tote, a drawer or even have worn around my neck. I take a small notebook, mechanical pencils and stylus as I track meds and services provided when possible.

As an outpatient it makes sense to wear what you'd like to wear departing like one of your new, front opening MuMus combined with running tights, lululemon type yoga pants, or easy on pull up pants. If your feet tend to be cold, knit slippers or micro fibre fuzzy socks [photo of yarn stash?] take little space.

It's efficient to put all clothes in a sweater size zip bag and sit on it to remove all the air as you slowly seal it closed.

    1. Hon, lots of good tips! Thank you! Really appreciate you taking the time to share.

I won't be changing my current phone service provider, if and when I change my phone; prefer to stay with my current provider.

The hospital did provide instructions to keep all valuables at home, what to wear (loose, front-opening blouse), etc. But it's good to have the benefit of your experiences, as well. I know you always plan everything down to the last detail; I'm happy to benefit from it! :)

I know now, from a previous experience as an outpatient receiving anesthesia, to keep a bag/disposable container and wipes for the car ride home, afterwards! :p
