Mile Long Fall To Do List

This is no Joy List! This is my "Must Do" list!  It is my late-night brain dump list of all the things I know I have to do/think I have to do/feel I should do/know I would like to do,  in no particular order!  I typed it up when I was doing my Monday To Do List, because, while I was doing the Monday's list, I kept thinking of all the other things that needed or wanted doing and starting to get a headache!  Some of the cleaning type stuff, I would like to get done before I host the prayer gathering in October.  The other stuff can be done later.

Mile Long Fall To Do List:
  • Renew my driver's license - before November 11 - make appointment/fill out application online
  • Pay my auto insurance bill - before October 3 - go to Auto Club in person to get a receipt (they've already called me once with a "friendly reminder" that it is due on Oct. 3)
  • Pay gas bill
  • Pay utility bill
  • Pay phone bill
  • Dentist appointment 10/4
  • Radiation oncologist appointment 10/15
  • Doctor's appointment 10/17
  • Podiatrist appointment 11/1
  • Oncologist appointment 11/19
  • Schedule eye exam for glasses/get glasses (preferably before current vision insurance runs out in October)
  • Schedule peripheral vision field test (when they call/or call if not heard from them in 1 month)
  • Dust - whole house
  • Vacuum - whole house
  • Mop - kitchen, my bathroom
  • Remove cobwebs - whole house
  • Clean chandelier in dining room
  • Clean light fixtures (2) in family room
  • Clean bedroom window
  • Wash bedroom curtains
  • Clean vertical blinds - family room window
  • Wash valance - family room window
  • Wash family room window
  • Clean vertical blinds - family room sliding glass door
  • Clean sliding glass door, including tracks
  • Get donations picked up - call to schedule
  • Dig out spare room/The Dump
  • Sew quilts
  • Sew holiday gifts
  • Host prayer gathering
  • Buy new sofa slip covers - IKEA (before prayer gathering)
  • Or, at least, wash current sofa slip covers
  • Paperwork/File/Shred
  • Call to have the outside cats spayed/neutered
  • Schedule Dancer's check up
  • Polish brassware (ideally before prayer gathering)
  • Spruce up the front garden
  • Wash kitchen cabinet fronts
  • Buy paint for front door
  • Paint front door
This is not an exhaustive list, either!  There are things I'd like to do which I haven't listed, because I know I will not get to them (like fixing the water damaged wall in the hallway, painting the family room and hallway, new drapes, etc.) Things might get added on as I find/think of more things to do (like washing the living room windows and drapes; actually, I'm afraid to wash the drapes in case they disintegrate!)  But, doing the brain dump helped to avert a mild panic attack as I wondered, "How on earth am I going to do all these things?"  Having it all written out/typed up, eliminated the need to try to remember and worry about forgetting something important that I had to do!  Also, I can see that somethings won't take a lot of time to do and can get crossed off, easily.

As I said, this is no Joy list.  In fact, I decided to do a Joy list precisely because I needed something other than a Must Do list.  The Joy list is the antidote to the Must Do list!  So, while I was writing it out, last night, I decided to do one thing that was on my Joy list, at the same time.  With the windows open to catch the cooler night air, the house cooled down nicely to 75F, and I took the opportunity to bake a cake!

Ta Da!

It's just a plain, yellow cake from a boxed mix, but it made me happy!

Cake!
I had to eat a piece before it had even cooled!  LOL!  Don't worry, I won't eat it all!  I'll take some of it to the library knitting club, tomorrow, and I'll take a piece to neighbor T when I visit her on Wednesday morning.  The calories will be shared!  But, I might eat another piece, tonight, with some strawberries!

How about you?  Do you, too, have a mile long To Do list for fall?

Resting on Sunday

I slept in, this morning, and got about 7 1/2 hours of sleep!  I turned off the porch lights, fed the cats, had a cup of coffee, sighed over the sinkful of saute pans, etc., from yesterday's cooking (guess who didn't do the dishes, last night?!), replied to blog comments, etc., and relaxed.

Daughter called and we chatted on the phone for a bit.  She was going to an acrobatics class in the afternoon.

Later in the afternoon, I decided to wash my bed sheets and put fresh sheets on the bed.  I put the fitted sheet on and went over it with the lint roller, because, since I hang the sheets to dry and don't put them in the dryer with a dryer sheet, Dancer's fur still remain on the sheets, even after washing.  I had just finished lint rollering it when this happened:

"Ooh, Mummy made the bed with fresh sheets!"

Apparently, there is something irresistible about fresh sheets!

"Must roll around and make sure it is comfy!"

Now, the sheet is full of his fur, again!

"What?  You're going to tell your blog friends about this, aren't you?"
I laundered the set of sheets I had on the bed, along with a few other items, and hung them up to dry.

I spent a relaxed afternoon and planned a couple of sewing projects.  I want to make some holiday gifts with fabric in the stash.  The projects I have planned will use up at least a couple of pieces of fabric, if not more.  I just need to sit down and sew!

Later, I watered the indoor plants, took the kitchen trash and recycling out to the big bins, and inspected the garden.  Everything will need to be watered, tomorrow.  According to this evening's weather forecast, we'll be in the 90s, next week, with Thursday being 97F, before it "cools down" to the 80s over the weekend.

I called Aunt C and had a nice chat with her.

Then, I washed the dishes that were in the sink and cleaned the stove top and counters.

For dinner, I steamed some broccoli and carrots and had it with sliced chicken breast:

Dinner
There is another serving of the broccoli and carrots leftover for another meal.  Dessert was a bowl of strawberries:

Dessert
Today, I am grateful for:
- Being able to sleep in, this morning
- A working washing machine
- Being able to air dry laundry, indoors
- Emails from a friend
- Strawberries for dessert

I haven't been posting a daily to do list, these past few days, but it's time to start posting them, again.

Monday's To Do List
- Set up an appointment to renew my driver's license - need to go in person, this time, as I need to do a vision test
- Pay my auto insurance renewal in person at the Auto Club (can do later in the week, too; not due yet)
- Give Dancer his flea medication (oh, he's not going to like it!)
- Do another load of laundry
- Clean the fridge
- Package and freeze some of the curries I made
- Empty the waste baskets
- Take the trash cans to the curb
- Water the front and back gardens
- Dust & vacuum
- Mop kitchen
- Clean my bedroom window
- Wash my bedroom curtains

Guess who's going to be busy, tomorrow?  But, most of the items on the list shouldn't take too long to do.

How was your Sunday?  Were you able to rest?  What have you planned for Monday?

Saturday: First Day of Fall

Today is the first day of fall!  Not that you could tell it, going by our temperatures, over here!  We were in the 90s, today!

I woke up at 6:00 a.m., feeling strangely wide awake (after going to sleep after 3:00 a.m.), but I went back to sleep and slept for several more hours!  I called neighbor T to check on her and we had several more phone calls, back and forth, throughout the rest of the morning and early afternoon.  In between, I wrote my Friday Recap blog post and chatted with my daughter, who went grocery shopping at the dollar store and baked a pumpkin-pecan bread:

Pumpkin-Pecan Bread

Not fair!  I wanted to bake a cake this evening, but it is simply too hot to even think of turning on the oven!  Daughter said it was in the 60s, up there!  I told her she needs to make me some pumpkin bread when she comes down, next - that will be at Thanksgiving, and it should be cool enough to turn on the oven, by then.  I've two cans of pumpkin puree in the pantry that need to be used up!

Instead of baking a cake or pumpkin bread, I cooked the chicken breast I had bought on Thursday.  It was one whole chicken breast that they had removed the breast bone and skinned.  I cut it into two halves.

I pan sauteed one half, with onions and a chopped tomato, with only salt, pepper, and garlic powder to season it:

Sauteed Chicken Breast
I will slice this for salads and sandwiches, or, it can be served with a side of broccoli and some carrots.

I made a curry with the other half, with onions, another tomato, curry leaves, curry powder, chili powder, and spices such as whole cloves and whole cardamoms:

Chicken Curry

I don't need to cook all of next week, if I choose not to!  LOL!  But, most probably what I'll do is freeze some of the curry.

Today being the first day of fall, my daughter said she's making a Fall "bucket list", and it made me realize that it's been a year since I last did a Joy List.  I did my very first Joy List back in Fall 2016, which was followed by various other seasonal joy lists, including another Fall Joy List in 2017.  Then, I took a break from doing joy lists, deciding to incorporate them into my balanced life goals,  instead.  I've spent some time, today, trying to decide if I wanted to make another Fall Joy list, this year.  But, a lot of the things I came up with, like eating chocolates with marzipan filling, are bad for me and other things, like going places and doing things, seemed more like work than fun!  Oh, dear!  Here's the list I settled on:

Fall Joy List 2018:

1. Celebrate my official retirement (in October) - not quite sure how, though!
2. Spend more time sewing
3. Bake a cake
4. Bake a pie
5. Decorate for fall/Halloween/Thanksgiving
6. Celebrate my birthday (might wait until daughter comes home for Thanksgiving)
7. Bake pumpkin bread with daughter when she comes home
8. Host the October prayer gathering
9. Celebrate Thanksgiving
10. Do some gardening
11. Knit
12. Make holiday gifts

Today, I am thankful for:
- Being able to help neighbor T
- Chatting with my daughter throughout the day
- A sunny, warm day
- A fridge full of food
- A relaxed day

How was your first day of fall?  Anyone else making fall bucket lists or joy lists?

Friday Update

Friday, I woke up when cousin P called at 9:00 a.m.with news that one of the aunts was in hospital undergoing some tests.   After she rang off, I slept for another hour or so, and then, got up.  I spent a quiet morning and did my blog post about cooking cauliflower.  For brunch, I had some of the leftover cassava with beef curry.

Neighbor T called in the afternoon.  She was upset because she had been talked into agreeing to a free estimate on her roof, by a telemarketer!   These people are very good at catching people off guard!  I remember that another of my neighbors, who has since passed away (she was my gardener friend M's aunt), getting caught to one such roofing offer and paying something like $20,000 to repair a roof that didn't need repairs!  Anyway, T said she had second thoughts about it and tried to call back to cancel the appointment, only to be told that the number they had given her was a disconnected number!  So, she called me all upset and worried about it.  I tried calling the number, myself (just in case she had made a mistake when dialing), but I got the same message about the number being disconnected.  A little further research online led to a different phone number that a reviewer (all the reviews were bad!) had posted, although I didn't try to call that number, myself.  I know that I get calls from this same company, quite frequently; the next time they call, I will try to make a note of the number they are calling from!

I asked T if she gave out any credit card information, and she said no, which is a good thing!  We had a lot of calls, back and forth (some today, as well), about this situation.  She has decided that she will not answer the door when the people come over on Wednesday.  She sounded so worried that I offered to come and stay with her on Wednesday morning, so she won't be alone when they come.  In the meantime, I called our local police station and described the situation and asked them what we should do and was told that the best thing would be to tell these people that she has changed her mind.  So, as of this afternoon, that is what we are going to do!

I asked T if she told her daughter about it (that would be the first thing I would do), but she said, no.  She doesn't want to tell her daughter anything about it, because she says her daughter has a terrible temper and will yell at her!  I can't imagine being afraid to tell my daughter about anything I've done!  I know she will be concerned and worried, and might even despair, but she will not get angry and yell at me!  In fact, this morning, I told her she's not allowed to yell at me!  LOL!  She asked me when has she ever yelled at me!   She never did, even as a teenager.  I used to worry about what to expect during those teenage years and braced myself for rebellion and to be told she hated me, etc., but we never went through any of it!  She is truly a blessing.

While I was typing this, T called and apologized for getting me involved and said maybe I shouldn't come over, that she will keep her doors closed, but will tell the people she has changed her mind.  I told her that I didn't mind coming over, but, if she didn't want me to, then, I won't.  But, she said she did want me to come over, just that she didn't want to impose on me.  I assured her that it was OK, I don't mind it at all, we will pretend I came over for a coffee morning!  I think my presence will help T; these situations are always more stressful when one is on her own.

Later, on Friday afternoon, M came over and I had him take down the window a/c unit in my room, as I don't think I will need to use it any more (I haven't used it all month and rarely used it, even in August) and clean the family room fan, for me, before doing the garden.

I received two bills in the mail, on Friday.  My natural gas bill, which was $20.26, which is what it tends to be in the summer months, when I don't use the heater, and my utility bill (water, power, trash removal and sewer service, combined) which was $375.57!  The utility bill is actually for two months (7/18 - 9/17), because that is their billing cycle.  But, still, Yikes!  All those loads of laundry I did during the flea infestation and the watering I did to keep the garden alive during the hottest months of the year, caught up with me!  I went well over my Tier 1 allotment of 16 HCF (hundred cubic feet); billed at the rate of $6.31/HCF and used 11 HCF of the allotted 14 HCF of Tier 2 water, which is billed at the rate of $8.31/HCF.  The water portion of my bill came to $192.46.  Friend M, who was here when I opened the bill, told me he waters his garden every day and I don't want to know what his bill is!  LOL.  One of my cousins told me her bill came to $1,200 for the same billing period, but that's because she has central air and she had to use her a/c all summer!  The electric portion of my bill was $68.31.  I had used 355 kWh (kiloWatthours), which was well within my Tier 1 electric allotment of 1,000 kWh.  The trash removal charges were $72.84 (set rate according to type of residence, not amount of trash generated and collected) and the sewer service charges (based on average winter water usage) were $72.84.  My utility bill averages $300 per bill (for 2 months), so I budget $150 per month for it.  This billing cycle, my bill is $75.57 over the budgeted amount!  However, my prior bills for this year have all been under budget ($243.05; $197.37; $205.19; $269.65), and, since I carry over any remainders from month to month, I have a cushion of almost $435 to cover the overage on this bill.  So, I am not too worried about the higher than normal bill, although I do try, in general, to keep to my Tier 1 water allotment.  My next bill should be lower.  By the way, I just continue to carry over any extra amounts in the budget, at the end of the year.  Sometimes, however, I use that to offset the higher natural gas bills in the winter.

Later, Friday evening, I called friend R to make sure she wasn't going to the temple.  She had called me, earlier in the week to say she'd like to go with me, if I was going, and then, had called me on Thursday, to say she had to work till 6:30 p.m. on Friday.  But, she was going to call me if she was able to get off earlier.  She hadn't called by 6:40 p.m., but I didn't want to leave for temple, without making sure she wasn't planning to go.  I had a cup of tea and a sandwich before I went to the temple.

The meditation session was very well attended, with about 20 people, participating.  I stayed for the duration of the discussion, afterwards, which went on till 9:00 p.m.  It was quite interesting, to me (about the pros and cons of the breathing meditation we do - sometimes, also known as "mindful breathing" - where we focus on our breathing; the other meditation we do is the metta or "loving-kindness" meditation).  The breathing meditation is one I do quite often, when I am in doctors' offices, etc. and I used to do it during chemo and radiation, too.  It gave me something else to focus on, other than the treatments I was undergoing, and, it helped me to keep calm.  It's not deep breathing to calm yourself when stressed, but rather, just being aware of ones breathing and focusing on it to the exclusion of everything else.

Afterwards, I came home, had dinner (a slice of leftover pizza, cucumber salad, and grapes), and chatted with my daughter.

On Friday, I was grateful for:
- Being able to offer help to neighbor T
- My daughter
- The internet and all the helpful information it provides
- Knowing I can afford to pay the higher than normal utility bill
- An enjoyable evening at the meditation session

How was your Friday?  How do you budget for your utility bills?

Curried Cauliflower

Curried Cauliflower

I bought a head of cauliflower, at $.49/lb. on August 26, intending to share it with my daughter who was visiting at the time, since she loves cauliflower.  However, I didn't cook it before she left and she didn't have room in her carry-on luggage (which is all she travels with) to take it back with her.  So, the poor cauliflower sat in my fridge drawer and languished.  It's not that I don't eat cauliflower, I do.  In fact, it's one of the few vegetables I don't mind eating (I am not a big fan of vegetables, in the first place).  But, it's not necessarily my favorite vegetable (that would be green beans, with cucumber a close second) and I avoided cooking it.

After two weeks of being in the fridge, some of the creamy white florets turned a bit yellowish, and it seemed that, every time I opened the fridge drawer, the cauliflower silently reproached me.  But, still, I ignored it.  Eventually, I put cooking it on my daily to do list!  LOL!  After another couple of days of procrastinating, I finally cooked it, yesterday, almost three weeks after buying it!  There were a few dark spots and yellowed areas that I trimmed off, but I was lucky that it didn't spoil completely.

Dancer came meowing in to the kitchen, when he realized I was cleaning the cauliflower, because, in addition to broccoli leaves (and spinach), he loves cauliflower leaves, too!  So, he got a small piece of one of the leaves to snack on and he was very happy!   "Leafy greens are good for you", he says!

I trimmed the discolored spots off the cauliflower, washed it, cut it into florets, washed the florets, again, and cut the florets into smaller pieces.   Then, I heated a little oil in a frying pan, added a handful of curry leaves, some mustard seeds, and one or two pods of dried chilis.  Once the mustard seeds started popping, I added the rinsed cauliflower florets and sprinkled them with some turmeric, yellow curry powder, and salt.  I sauteed them for about 10 minutes, stirring them from time to time.  I didn't add any water.  If I had some fresh lemons I would have added a little lemon juice, at the end, but I don't have any lemons on my trees, right now.  At the end of the cooking, the cauliflower was crisp-tender, which is how I prefer it.  Even more importantly, it tasted good to me!

For dinner, I cooked some fresh rice and warmed up some of the beef curry, green beans, and dhal from the previous night's cooking and had a serving of cauliflower with it:

Dinner: rice, cauliflower, green beans, beef curry, dhal

As I mentioned to one of my friends, last night, I am thinking that this might be the menu I'd make for the October rosary prayer gathering lunch, which I will be hosting.  I will make a chicken curry, as well, for that, fry some pappadum (lentil flour wafers), and serve some of my homemade tomato chutney as a condiment.  I could make the beef curry and chicken curry ahead of time and freeze them, cook the green beans and the dhal the day before, and all I'd have to do on the day of the prayer gathering will be to cook the rice, the cauliflower, and fry the pappadum.  Oh, and make a dessert (although that can be done the day before, too).

The more I can do ahead for the prayer gathering meal (and, even, the almsgiving that will take place in December), the better, because it means I get less tired.  I remember, last year, when I was preparing for the prayer gathering, my hands and feet both cramped so badly that I had to call my cousin P and ask her to come and help, in addition to friend R helping me.  I just can't cut and slice large quantities of anything or stir something for long, without my hands cramping.  I felt my hand starting to cramp when I was cooking the beef curry, the other evening, but that was after I had cut all those beans and the onions and tomatoes for the beef curry, as well as the beef.  One of the reasons why I didn't cook the cauliflower, then, as I had planned to.  But, luckily, it didn't become a full cramp and I didn't say anything about it when I wrote the blog post (focus on the positives, Bless; no need to keep harping about the aches and pains and fatigue and everything else!  *smile*)  This morning, my hands were tingling when I woke up, and I wondered if it was because I cut the cauliflower, or, if it was due to something else (one of the milder side effects of the medication I take for my long-term cancer treatment, Anastrozole, is tingling/numbness in hands).  So, as I said, the more I can do ahead, the better.  I'll just prepare one dish at a time and do so over a couple of weeks to prepare for both the rosary prayer gathering and the almsgiving.

What is your favorite way to prepare cauliflower?  Have you ever made curried cauliflower?  Do you think you might try cooking it this way?

Thursday: More Grocery Shopping!

Ha, ha, guess what I did today?  If you guessed, "More grocery shopping", you are correct! LOL!

There was a text from the pharmacy, this morning, saying my refills were ready for pick up - of course, they weren't ready when I went there, yesterday, to redeem by $5 coupon, on the last day it was valid!  So, I went to the pharmacy first.

Then, I went to the Armenian store to get this week's advertised special and to take advantage of the one day, Thursday only, specials.  Well, I took advantage of the iceberg lettuce, 3/$1 special; I declined the rest of the Thursday specials - Nescafe instant coffee, 350 g. for $5.49, mozzarella cheese for $1.99/lb., and (are you ready for this?) beef feet for $1.99/lb.!  In case you are wondering what people do with beef feet, apparently, they make good stock for soups and stews.  I have not tried them, myself, although I've eaten other, less common cuts of beef.

They have Saturday only specials, too: this week, they are - ham for $4.99/lb; something called "piknik cheese" for $8.99/1 kilo container, chicken drumsticks for $.59/lb., and honeydew melon for 5lb/$1.  I am not planning to go grocery shopping, again, on Saturday, though.

9/20 Groceries

I love this particular grocery store for their great prices and the variety of things they have on sale.  Today, I got all excited when I saw this sign:

Bags of Rambutan for $1.99/lb.

Rambutan is a favorite fruit of mine.  We had a tree in my childhood home in Sri Lanka.

Rambutan

No, I didn't buy any, today.  The picture is of some rambutan that was given to me on a previous visit to the Sri Lankan store, back in October, 2016.   Back then, the Sri Lankan store was selling them for $4.99/lb., so today's price at the Armenian store was a bargain!  I was very tempted to buy some, today, and even took a bag to weigh it.  All the bags were 2+ lbs. and I didn't want to spend $4.00+ on fruit that was prepackaged and I couldn't check for freshness.  However, I might still change my mind!

Today, instead of rambutan, I bought:
Broccoli crown @ $.49/lb = $.37
Snow peas @ $2.99/lb = $.18 (just a handful for the stir fry I want to make)
1 cucumber = $.50
1 lettuce = $.34
Peaches @ $.79/lb = $.88
Almonds (raw) @ $3.99/lb = $3.35
2 cans coconut milk @ $.99 = $1.98
2 packages digestive biscuits @ $.99 = $1.98
1 jar Nutella (13 oz) = $2.99
Chicken breasts, boneless/skinless @ $1.49/lb = $2.91
Total = $15.48

9/20 Receipt

At the check out, they had bars of dark chocolate covered marzipan for $2.49 and I put one on the conveyor belt, but put it back, again!  So much temptation, at that store!  But I knew I had approximately $30 to spend for the rest of the month, so I wanted to keep today's bill to about $15, as there are 10 more days left in the month, and I'll probably need to do another grocery shop, later this month, for bread, milk, maybe more fresh produce, etc.

September grocery budget = $75
Spent to date:
8/29 = $3.20 (came from September grocery budget)
9/5 = $12.11 (September grocery shopping week 1)
9/11 = $1.99 (for milk)
9/14 = $3.00 (for bread)
9/18 = $10.61
9/19 = $11.47
9/20 = $15.48
Total spent to date = $57.86
Balance remaining = $75 - $57.86 = $17.14

Dancer was very happy that I brought some broccoli leaves for him:

"My broccoli leaf!"

"Delicious!"

Lunch was a salad, with lettuce, cucumber, a grated carrot, a sliced radish, some of the almonds, sliced, and bottled salad dressing:

Salad for Lunch
Later, I had two of the digestive biscuits with a cup of tea.

I will cook the chicken breasts (I bought two), tonight.  I might make a curry with one and pan saute the other with onions to have with salads.

I also plan to make a stir fry with the smoked sausage I have in the freezer and some of the vegetables I bought, today.  That will give me a variety of dishes to choose from over the next several days.  I think, some of it will be frozen for future meals.

I also think that I had better stay out of grocery stores for the next several days!  LOL!

How is your grocery budget looking, 2/3 of the way into the month?

Wednesday: More Grocery Shopping and Cooking, Too

This morning, I woke up at 9:00 a.m., when my daughter texted me, but then, I went back to sleep and woke up almost two hours later!  Ah, the luxury of sleeping in!  I actually got 8 hours of sleep!  LOL!

Once I got up, I made myself a cup of coffee.  I drink instant coffee that is made with milk, for the most part (it's the only time I drink milk), but I also add a splash of flavored coffee creamer to it, along with two teaspoons of sugar!  I know I should probably eliminate the sugar, or, at the very least, reduce it, but I haven't been able to do so, yet.  I consider this as my breakfast (although, I should probably consider it dessert!).  Today, I also had one of the small bananas, a bit later.  Did you know that a regular sized banana is actually considered as two servings of fruit?

I spent a relaxed morning and early part of the afternoon, responding to blog comments, checking emails, etc.  Around mid-afternoon, I decided to go to the pharmacy, as I had a $5 off coupon (Extra Care Bucks) that was expiring today.  Since I didn't have anything in particular that I needed, I bought something for my daughter.  I paid $2.95, out of pocket.

There is a grocery store in the same shopping center as the pharmacy (in addition to the dollar store I go to all the time) and they were advertising 2 lb. containers of strawberries for $1.99, which is a good price.  So I planned to go to the grocery store, as well, for some strawberries and cold cuts (on sale for $1.99; regular price, $3.99).

But, before I left the house, I called my neighbor T to check on her and told her I was planning to go to the pharmacy and the grocery store and I asked her if she needed anything.  She asked me to buy a box of mini muffins that she likes.  So, I bought her a box of the muffins that she wanted and a package of strawberries, a package of roast beef cold cuts, as well as a container of flavored coffee creamer, for myself.  I didn't really need the coffee creamer, because I still have some in the fridge, but, this brand of creamer was on sale for less than the store brand that I usually buy, so I figured I'll take advantage of the lower price.

9/19 Groceries

1 box Mini muffins = $4.99
1 container coffee creamer = $2.50
2 lb. strawberries = $1.99
7 oz. roast beef cold cuts = $1.99
Total = $11.47

9/19 Receipt

I am including the cost of the mini muffins for my neighbor in my grocery budget because I didn't accept reimbursement for them from her.

September grocery budget = $75
Spent to date:
8/29 = $3.20 (came from September grocery budget)
9/5 = $12.11 (September grocery shopping week 1)
9/11 = $1.99 (for milk)
9/14 = $3.00 (for bread)
9/18 = $10.61
9/19 = $11.47

After I came home, I called my neighbor to ask if I could come over to give her the box of muffins, but she asked if she could come over, instead.  That was fine with me, so she came over and we visited for a bit.  She brought me a container of calcium tablets that she had received as a buy-one-get-one free deal, claiming she couldn't possibly use both containers.  I accepted it, gratefully, because I am taking three of these calcium pills, daily, per my doctor's orders.

Around 5:00 p.m., I had a sandwich with some of the cold cuts, for a late lunch and had a cup of tea, a short while later, since it was tea time, as well.

Today's temperature was in the upper 80s, but it cooled down a little after sunset.  I haven't been going for my daily walks, recently, but I went for a 20 minute walk, today, as it was cooler.  I walked the same distance I had walked earlier; I will try to walk a little further, the next time I walk.

After I came home, I did some cooking:  beef curry, sauteed green beans (they have dark roasted curry powder and dried Maldive fish flakes added to them), and lentil (dhal) curry:

Beef Curry, Green Beans, Lentils

I had some of it for dinner, with leftover rice:

Dinner
I should have cooked that head of cauliflower I still have in the fridge, but I was too tired to cook more than what I did, tonight.  I must do something with the cauliflower, tomorrow, before it spoils!

I had just finished cooking and washing the dishes, when cousin P called to ask if I've eaten dinner - she wanted to bring me a slice of pizza, but I said I had just finished cooking dinner and besides, I still have half my pizza in the fridge!  So, we chatted on the phone, instead.  Then, I had my dinner.

Daughter called shortly after that and we video chatted for a bit.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Being able to sleep in!
- Being able to redeem a $5 off coupon at the pharmacy
- My neighbor giving me an extra bottle of calcium tablets
- Offer of pizza from cousin
- Video chatting with my daughter
