The Stumpery
The stumpery in the front garden has become part of the landscape, now, but, I still love looking at it.
On Saturday, daughter and I woke up early and we were on the road by 6:30 a.m. The mobile spay and neuter clinic was being held at a church parking lot and they were just setting up when we pulled in. The person running the cat rescue organization met up and daughter filled out the paperwork, then, we left the cat with them and came home.
I fed the chickens after we came home and as usual, they both ran out of the coop enclosure and ran around in the garden while I filled the feeder. I had to bribe them with dried meal worms to get them back inside! Henny Penny came running when I called her, but, Niwatori needed a bit of coaxing.
I spent the morning sewing on my hexagon quilt top and watching news videos of our wildfires. I ate two of the blueberry muffins I made on Friday for my breakfast.
Then, at noon, we went to pick up Tora, who, as we had suspected, was a boy. He was very quiet in the car both going and coming back. He had to stay in the trap for a few hours and, even when we opened the trap for him to leave, he stayed inside the trap for a little while. But, eventually, he left the trap and joined the other kitties to have dinner.
After we came home with Tora, I made us some lunch and decided to try the can of breadfruit curry I had bought from the Sri Lankan store:

Canned Breadfruit Curry
It was the first time I've tried the canned breadfruit curry and it was very good. I had fried karawala (salted dry fish) with it:

Saturday Lunch: Rice, Breadfruit Curry, Karawala
Later in the afternoon, I had a nap while daughter did a load of laundry. It was another warm day with a high of 91F. But, the forecast says it will cool back down to a high of 67F by Thursday.

Saturday Dinner: Tortilla Coated with Eggs Chicken Curry
For dinner, I cooked tortillas coated with beaten eggs and served them with chicken curry I had cooked and frozen earlier. Afterwards, I ran the dishwasher.
- The cat rescue group who helped us with getting it done
- A safe drive to the spay/neuter clinic and back
- Another warm day

The stumpery has really settled in perfectly, hasn't it? I like this kind of garden feature more than formal items. It's wonderful that there is a means for stray animals to be neutered via a mobile clinic. Your meal of breadfruit curry and fried kawala sounds very interesting. I'm glad the canned curry turned out to be good.
ReplyDeleteThe stumpery has definitely settled in and it is looking how I envisioned it to look, when I first put the stumps in place.
DeleteYes, it's wonderful that there is a mobile clinic to neuter the strays and groups who sponsor such events.
I enjoyed the breadfruit curry and karawala meal. I used to buy the canned breadfruit in brine and make my own curry, but, having a can of already curried breadfruit was very convenient. :)
It is great that you have gotten the last kitten fixed. Controlling the feral cat population is such an important thing.
ReplyDeleteThank you, June. Yes, I'm glad I was able to get this last kitten fixed. There's another cat that comes to my front garden from time to time, but, it doesn't come to eat when I feed the other cats, so I don't know if it is feral, a stray, or belongs to one of my neighbors. But, if it starts to come to the back garden, I'll try to trap it, too.
DeleteBless you both for getting all those kittens neutered. It's so important. We were not allowed to collect Mog from the animal shelter until she had been spayed. They didn't bother with Boo because of him being a male cat, but I got him neutered anyway.
ReplyDeleteThe stumpery has established itself beautifully. It turned out to be a great project. Xx
Thank you, Jules. All the cats I've adopted had been fixed as part of the adoption process, but, trapping and neutering the garden cats have been a process! The first rescue group I worked with ceased to exist and it took some effort to finally connect with another group, but, they've been very helpful.
DeleteI'm very pleased with how the stumpery turned out. :)
Dear friend, it's wonderful you got the last cat neutered! It's so important and it not only controls the cat population but keeps them calmer.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Linda. It's a big relief not to have to worry about more kittens!
