On Thursday

New Clothes

Friends of mine gave me a store gift card for Christmas and I had the hardest time trying to figure out what to buy with it.  I didn't actually need anything.  Eventually, however, I decided to get a few items of clothing I had been wanting to get: a new robe (purple fleece), two tank tops (one black and one reddish brown) to wear under some rather sheer blouses that one of my cousins had given me (or to be worn around the house during the hot summers), and a pair of leggings.  We ordered them online and the robe was delivered on Wednesday and the other three items were delivered today (Thursday).  They are the first new clothes I've bought in a while and will fill in some gaps in my wardrobe.  That store gift card was such a blessing.

It's been another cloudy day, today, with a high of 63F.  I did a load of laundry, watched some videos, and knitted.  I also made some stock with a chicken carcass I had frozen; I will de-fat it, tomorrow, and make some chicken and vegetable soup.

I had leftover coconut roti and pork curry for brunch; daughter ate some chicken curry.  For dinner, daughter asked for roast pork sandwiches.  I sauteed slices of roast pork with garlic powder, onion powder, and ground black pepper and made sandwiches with toasted bread.  I had some of my dump cake with yogurt for dessert and apple slices for a snack.

On Thursday, I was grateful for:

- A good blood pressure reading (it had been slightly elevated all week)
- Working appliances
- New clothes
- E-mails from friends
- Daughter being home with me

Thursday's joyful activity was knitting.

Plans for Friday include tending to the garden with M and maybe a quick run to the library to return books.

How was your Thursday?  What are your plans for Friday?

  1. It is always a treat to be able to choose what to spend with a gift card, you have some lovely items there. I love the rusty brown top!

    1. Angela: Thank you. The rust brown was supposed to be burgundy, but, didn't photograph well in artificial light. :)

  2. Anche io quando mi regalano una gift card ho sempre difficoltà a decidere come spenderla, ma per il motivo contrario al tuo: la roba nell' armadio non mi basta mai 😂😂

    1. June: Thank you. I was very careful to select only those items that I thought would be useful, because I didn't want to clutter my closet. :)

  4. I have two or three gift cards that I got for Christmas and still haven't used them. I need to do that one of these days. It's kind of fun to have them and think...hm....what do I WANT rather than what do I NEED. Have a wonderful weekend. I will be plopped inside because we are at MINUS 45F and schools, some businesses are closed. xo Diana

  5. How nice to receive a gift card enabling you to pick up a few things you would like. It looks like you did well with your shopping. And you repaired the top from your daughter and have a new hand knit sweater - you are taking care of your appearance for 2026 :)
    Your food sounds very good.
I saw a recipe that's gone a bit viral with a rotisserie chicken.
It's called Costco scallion chicken or something like that.
You basically remove the hot rotisserie chicken from it's bag then add your rice into the bag the chicken came in. (rice needs to be hot to soak up the liquid gooey stuff in the bottom of the bag so no cold rice)
Then you add soy sauce, sesame oil, chili crisp and scallions and some of the shredded chicken and stir it all together.
The stuff you add is adaptable to whatever you like/have.
It's gimmicky because of doing it all in the rotisserie bag hence the viral nature of the recipe because - well social media does like it's gimmicks.
Sounds fun and good - I may give it a try.

    1. Debra: Thank you. The clothes are all items I had been wanting for several months.
The rotisserie chicken and rice dish sounds interesting. It's a good way to use all the juices from the chicken, I'm sure, and no pans to wash since it's all made in the bag. :)

  7. Once again, I'm sorry I am unable to reply to individual comments.

I don't know what is causing this format change. I went to my blog settings and don't see anything I can change to get it back to the format where I could click on the "reply" button and get a space in which to reply. I don't have any "Reply as" box, only a "Comment as" space that shows up at the bottom of the comments page. It is rather annoying, but, at least I get to comment on my own blog! I know that one or two other bloggers couldn't comment on their own blogs at one time.

I will also ask my daughter if she can take a look and see if she can figure out why I can reply to individual comments.

In the meantime, thank you, everyone for commenting. I do appreciate all your comments.

  8. You made some good choices! I wouldn't have had courage to order online. Always need to try things on, or minimum have a look in person. I do like sheer blouses with vest tops underneath, especially as I wouldn't be able to wear either on their own!

    1. Lady Ella: I, too, used to want to try on at the store or, at least, check the fabric, etc. But, now, I will order and return if the items don't fit. I tried on my new clothes today and they fitted nicely, so, I will keep them.

  10. The tank tops will be great under the flimsy blouses. Right now I am wearing something similar under sweaters, for extra warmth in our Canadian winter!

    1. Thank you, Bushlady. I, too, wore one of the tank tops under my sweater, today! Reminded me of the vests I used to wear as a child. Yes, please do keep warm during your cold winters!

  11. How great that you could buy yourself exactly what you needed. Those tops will be perfect for wearing under a sheer blouse, and they look lovely and soft too.
I can't think about wearing anything sheer just now, however, as it's bitterly cold here, and very windy. That said, I've spent most of the day resting under a blanket after pushing myself too hard this morning. X

    1. Thank you, Jules. Still too cold, here, too, to wear sheer blouses, but, I remember thinking that it would be nice to have a tank top to wear under them in the summer. Currently, I am wearing the tank tops under sweaters for an extra layer.
I'm sorry you pushed yourself too hard, but, glad you are taking it easy and resting now. You need to try and pace yourself a little bit (easier said than done, I know).

  13. Love the colour of your robe, I wear tank tops all year round, find them comforting, reminds me of the singlets we used to wear as children.
Hope your blood pressure stabilizes, I have been told that shiro miso (A soy bean product) is a good alternative for blood pressure, worth looking into.

    1. Thank you, Sharon. Purple is my favorite color. :D These tank tops did remind me of the singlets (we called them vests) I used to wear as a child. :)
I shall check into the shiro miso, although it does contain salt.
