Nectarine |
On Monday, I picked this nectarine from the tree. It looks perfect, doesn't it? But, looks can be deceiving:

Not Quite Perfect |
It looks like some insect tried to bore into it. Oh, well, this is what happens when you grow things organically, without spraying your fruit. At least the birds didn't eat it before I picked it.
Last year, we had about 9 or 10 nectarines. This year, the nectarine tree didn't set many fruits. Only this one and possibly one other that is still forming. Needless to say, I am disappointed.
On Monday, I did some paperwork in the morning and then, took Dancer to the vet clinic for his arthritis injection, thyroid panel (the vet wanted to check if the new dosage of medication was helping), and have his claws trimmed. The last time I got a professional manicure done was back in July 2018!
Dancer was very good on this trip to the vet clinic. He had been sleeping when I picked him up to give him his sedative and in his sleepy state, I was able to give him the full dose before he realized what was happening. I also made sure to give him the medication one full hour before we left the house, and not one hour prior to his appointment time. Those extra 20 minutes or so really helped. He protested a bit when he realized that he was in his carrier and when he was first put into the car, but, he settled down soon after that. And he didn't hyperventilate or drool or throw up or mess up on the way there and back. He was a very good boy!
Once we arrived home, I waited a few minutes to make sure he was okay.
Then, I went to the post office to mail something and went to the library to return two books. One book was due on the day and the other one wasn't, but, I wanted to return them both and have one less thing to remember to do. Besides, I'll be busy this week and I might have to report for jury duty next week; I have to call on Sunday evening to find out if I need to report in person on Monday.
Later in the evening, I watered the back garden (which was when I picked the nectarine), cleaned out the fridge, and took the trash cans to the curb.
Today, (Tuesday), I brought in the emptied trash cans, checked the new grocery ads, did a load of laundry, watered the indoor plants, and received an e-book that I had put a hold on through the library. There had been 7 people waiting for this book (on decluttering) before me, so, I didn't anticipate I'd receive it as soon as I did (within a week of requesting it). I've already started to read it. This person has decluttering videos posted online and I've watched them, so I thought I'd read her book, as well.
Later in the afternoon, I went out to the backyard to take the kitchen compost to the compost heap, tripped on something, and fell! I had just been thinking that I haven't fallen recently! It knocked the wind out of me, but, I was okay. Not hurt. I did lie there for a minute before I sat up and then tried to get up. I had seen a video where you are encouraged to get up on one knee, bend the other leg and rest your foot on the ground with that knee raised. put your weight on the raised knee to lever yourself up. Well, I tried that, but the leg I was kneeling on wouldn't move! Eventually, I just put both hands on the ground and levered myself up like that. I did have my cell phone with me and if all else failed, I would have called M as he has a key to my gate and sat there in the garden until he could come and help me up. I might have had to wait a long time, though. Thank goodness I didn't hurt myself, although I might have a bruise or two, tomorrow.
I am grateful for:
- I didn't hurt myself when I fell
- I was able to get up on my own
- Dancer had a good trip to the vet clinic and back on Monday
- Libraries and being able to borrow books and other material through them
- Working appliances
- Water for the garden
- Nectarines from the garden

Joyful activities have included reading, watching online videos, and relaxing.
Plans for Wednesday include maybe another load of laundry, booking the car for a routine service, more paperwork, tending to the garden with M, and maybe going to the grocery store for bread and milk. I finished the last of the bread tonight, when I had an egg salad sandwich for my dinner.
How was your day? What are your plans for Wednesday?
You sound very busy. Who wrote your decluttering book?
ReplyDeleteIt's been a bit busier than usual.
DeleteThe book is called "The Mindful Art of Space Making: How to Declutter When You're Overwhelmed" by April Scott Tandy.
Tuesday was a day spent together. Today I am going to meet an old friend who I haven't seen for years, as she is on holiday about 15 miles away.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful visit with your friend, Angela. :)
DeleteI'm glad you weren't hurt from your fall. You have given us all a good reminder that we should practice getting up from the floor, so we know an easy way to do it in case we fall. There are definitely some ways that are easier than others.
ReplyDeleteThank you, June. Yes, it's a good idea to practice getting up from the floor. I struggle to do that even on the best of days!
DeleteSo sorry to hear of your fall! It must have been a shock. Superstition says that your soul is jolted loose when you fall and it takes a time to settle back. Please be careful, especially after having trouble getting back up.
ReplyDeletePlease pass on gentle scritches to Dancer for being such a good boy for the vet. I hope all his results come back and I hope that you're getting extra cuddles from him after the fall.
Thank you, Lyssa; I'm very thankful that I didn't hurt myself. I have osteopenia, but, all that extra fat padded my bones well, I guess! :D
DeleteDancer and I shared a can of tuna after the vet visit. He had his neat in his bowl and I had mine in a sandwich with mayo and relish. :)
What a pity that something has invaded that lovely nectarine! DH is now chagrined that the birds and a chipmunk are going after the wild blueberries and raspberries in our yard. He counted 4 robins, probably the 4 that hatched out of the nest in our shed! I pointed out that the berries belong to them too. If we had planted purchased plants, then we would have them in one spot and would be able to cover them because they were our personal property.
ReplyDeleteI know, but, assuming the inside of the nectarine is fine, I'm planning on eating the parts that were not bored into.
DeleteToo funny about DH being chagrined that the wildlife is enjoying the wild berries. Tell him that I shared my intentionally grown blueberries with the visiting birds and intentionally left some berries on the bushes when I saw that there was a baby mockingbird the parents were feeding. :)
Oh no! I am so sorry you fell. But, I am so glad you were ok. Very smart to keep your phone near you when you go outside. I hope you don't have too much pain. I'm glad to hear Dancer did well at his appointment. I need to take Jake in for some "maintenance" soon, but I'm afraid he is going to need a sedative. Orange cats can be very spicy! Haha!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mandy; I'm feeling okay, today. Yes, I have learned to carry my phone with me when I go outside from earlier falls!
DeleteI hope Jake does well at his vet's appointment; I have to give Dancer a sedative every time we go to the vet's.
That's a shame that your nectarine tree is slacking off this year! I hope the salvagable bits of your fruit are all the sweeter for it! Oh dear - please be careful where you are treading and try not to trip again. (Has the item you tripped over been removed, or does it need to be there?)
ReplyDeleteElla
The nectarine tree was full of flowers this year, but, I guess the bees didn't do their job properly. I don't even know what I tripped over, other than my own two feet! The ground is a bit uneven there, so, I might have stumbled on a bit of mounded up soil or a clump of grass? I just need to be a little more careful - might have to invest in a walking stick or a cane. I'm turning into an old woman! :D
DeleteI am glad you weren't seriously hurt and you were able to get up. Still, you must've been startled by the entire episode. I hope you went inside and relaxed a bit.
ReplyDeleteSeems like you've hit upon the sweet spot as far a timing Dancer's meds for the vet trip.
Thank you, Debra. I was very glad that I didn't hurt myself when I fell!
DeleteYes, I think I was able to give Dancer's sedative just at the right time. :)
