My grocery total came to $41.05.

In addition to groceries, I bought some non-grocery items, but, they are not included in the above grocery total.

My January grocery budget is $200 for two adults.

Spent to date: $84.61 (Jan. 3) + $50.06 (Jan. 10) + $39.73 (Jan. 19) + $41.05 (Jan. 25 =$215.45

With this purchase, I went over my January grocery budget and dipped into February's budget.  But, some of the items I bought will be eaten in February, so, I think it will work out.

Going forward, February's grocery budget will be $200 - $15.45 = $184.55

How did you do with your January grocery spending?  If you had a budget, were you able to keep to it?  Or, did you, like me, go over budget?

  1. That's a great deal on the chicken, but the price of peas has jumped so much! The ground beef looks good as well. I would have loaded up on that as we love it here.

    1. Yes, it was a good deal on the chicken, since it rarely goes on sale for $0.99/lb. anymore. The ground beef was a good buy, too, and I was tempted to stock up on that, but, I was already going over my January budget, so, I just bought the one tray.

  2. It's so easy for the prices to add up at the grocery store. I think you got a pretty good haul for only $41.

    1. Thank you, June. There weren't any impulsive purchases as I order groceries online and I review everything I ordered at least a couple of times. I do go inside the store to be tempted by any last minute items to the cart. I do have to order a minimum of $36 to qualify for free pick up; otherwise, there is a fee of almost $7 for pick up.

  3. Nice shop! I really need to do better. I must say though I am really watching what I'm buying. There are things I no longer buy as the prices are so high. On those items I give myself a top end that I'm willing to pay and no more.

    1. Thank you, Sharon. Yes, one needs to be aware of the prices and watch what one buys. I try to shop the sales as much as I can and pay full price only for things like bread, milk, daughter's half and half, and eggs.

  4. I'll be meal planning today, Bless. I don't have a specific budget, but I'm always careful with my spending, as prices keep increasing. X

    1. I need to meal plan, too, Jules. Although I usually meal plan based on what I have bought. I am anticipating our prices to go up quite a bit now that tariffs have been placed on certain imports.

  6. There were some frost bitten cucumbers in the store today, but I managed to find one that was green!

  7. You did really well keeping so close to $200 for 2 people.
I can see you finishing up February even for the 2 month period.
As I've mentioned, I don't have a specific budget but rather an amount of money I have for food, gas, monthly spending, etc. Out of that I am happy if I stay under $400 (raised in recent years) for all things bought at the grocery store for 2 people.
January was $361 and I feel happy with that.
On to the next month, right! And always a chance to do better :)

    1. Thank you, Debra. Actually, some of what I bought on this particular shopping trip in January, such as the second tray of chicken will be eaten in February, as was the ground beef. I'm afraid I might go over in February, too, but, I'll see how it goes.
You did well with your spending in January! Hope you do equally well in February. :)
