Evening Clouds |
The 2024 Olympics Games Opening Ceremonies were held on Friday. Due to the time difference, live coverage of the Opening Ceremonies began at 10:30 a.m., with a repeat broadcast during prime time, starting at 7:30 p.m. When possible, I like to watch live coverage of such events, so, although I had stayed up till 6:00 a.m., I woke up early to watch the live coverage. I enjoyed watching it, but, felt sorry for everyone getting rained on!
A couple of days ago, when I was walking in the driveway, I saw the grey clouds pictured above, and I wondered if we might get some rain, but, we didn't. Some rain would have been welcome because then, I wouldn't have had to water the garden! Homegrown fruits and vegetables are lovely, but, they require regular watering! Currently, I am watering the garden three times a week and my most recent water bill shows it! So, on Friday, when M was here to tend to the garden, I told him to skip watering the front garden. I will cut back to watering it twice a week.
Brunch was leftover pancakes with blueberry compote. Dinner was leftover chicken and vegetables, with a newly sauteed potato. Snacks included nectarines, a piece of love cake (made around Christmas/New Year's and frozen), and tortilla chips.
On Friday, I was grateful for:
- Being able to watch the Olympics Opening Ceremonies on TV
- M's help with the garden
- Garden produce (even with high water bills to pay)
- Working appliances
- Being able to borrow books from the library
Friday's joyful activity was watching the Opening Ceremonies.
No big plans for Saturday. I'll probably watch some of the Olympics, do laundry and some house cleaning.
Did you watch the Olympics Opening Ceremonies? What are your plans for Saturday?
I didn't see the opening ceremonies and all the links I tried were not available in my area. I think they were blacked out because of later prime time coverage. It was not a problem. I'm sure I can see whatever I want today.
ReplyDeleteOh, that was too bad. My daughter doesn't have TV in her apartment, so she couldn't watch anything, either. Hope you are able to enjoy today's coverage. :)
DeleteI'll be honest I didn't watch all of the Opening Ceremony as four hours coverage was just too long. Shame about the rain. Britain has won a bronze medal this morning in the diving which I'm pleased about and it's still raining in Paris.
ReplyDeleteShame your water bills are high to keep your garden providing you with your fruit and veg. Shame the clouds in your photo didn't produce some much needed rain.
I've just done a click and collect order at the pet store for food for Tilly but too tired to go fetch it today,. It's been out of stock so now it's available I've ordered some more.
Yes, it was a lengthy opening ceremony, wasn't it? It really is a shame about all the rain, though.
DeleteYes, high water bills are the downside of trying to grow fruits and vegetables in a semi-arid part of the world. But, it all evens out in the end - high water bills and low heating bills in the summer and low water bills and high heating bills in the winter. :)
I'm glad you were able to order Tilly's food now that it's available. I just had my daughter order some food for Dancer. :)
I like your cloud photo. What a pity they didn't bring a bit of rain though.
ReplyDeleteI watched the opening ceremony. I always find it a touching experience, thinking of friends all over the world watching at the same time. I remember getting messages during the London Olympics with people airing their views on proceedings (especially when Mr Bean appeared!). I thought yesterday had some high points (Nadal's great joy, Celine Dion, hot air balloon...) but there were long stretches when not much seemed to be happening and my mind was wandering. I felt sorry for them because the weather was so unkind but everyone did their best regardless. I just hope that the athletes don't all come down with coughs and colds ... and that the pianos dry out ok. 🎹🌧😯😟
Ella
Thank you, Lady Ella. We generally don't get rain during summer, but, occasionally, there will be a much welcome summer rain shower or two.
DeleteI'm glad you were able to watch the Olympics. I got a bit teary eyed when John Lennon's song, "Imagine" was sung. Apparently, it is now part of the Olympics tradition to play that song. I, too, was worried about those pianos! I hope they do dry out well.
Forgot to say I gave the Sri Lankan boat a clap as it came through. Our commentator explained a bit about the flag, so I even rewound to have a closer look!
DeleteThe pianos really took a soaking, didn't they? I hope that they were put in a warm room with dehumidifiers all round! Even so, I'm fearing mouldy hammers and warped frames. :o(
That was nice of you to give the SL boat a clap! It's interesting that the commentator explained something about the flag.
DeleteOh, the poor pianos! I would have thought that the organizers might have anticipated rain and provided some sort of protection!
Nice to still find love cake in the freezer for special occasions! I didn't watch the ceremonies but I did look at some photos online. I felt sorry for the people in the photos, all dressed in dripping plastic ponchos. If only that rain had been somewhere else, like the various areas battling wildfires right now.
ReplyDeleteYes, it's always nice to have a piece or two of love cake stashed in the freezer. :)
DeleteApparently, the rain didn't dampen the spirits of the attendees, but, it would have been better if it had been dry and the rain fell elsewhere, where it was needed more!
I watched part of the opening ceremony, and a few events. I like your cloud photo! Those look like stratocumulus, which don't usually produce rain. Sorry you didn't get any though. Blueberry compote sounds wonderful. Made from your home grown berries?
ReplyDeleteI've been watching the games on and off all day.
DeleteThank you for identifying the clouds; I just hope for rain any time I see grey clouds! LOL.
Yes, compote made with my homegrown blueberries. :)
I'm really not interested in the Olympics at all, although Mr Fd is. But I'm happy to troll upstairs and watch something on my computer instead. We watched some of the opening ceremony - I didn't think it worked very well, & I imagine that for the spectators it didn't work at all, as they couldn't see everything that the TV viewers saw. It was French being quirky again! Love FD xx
ReplyDeleteI agree!
DeleteI think I saw some big screens set up in some places so that the spectators could see what was happening, but, yes, it's not the same as being in a stadium, being able to see everything as it happened.
DeleteHopefully you will get some rain soon. I always think It's much better for the gardens than water from the tap. Not that I need to worry about that, as it's not often we're without rain here for very long :)
ReplyDeleteI've not watched a lot of the Olympics coverage this time. X
Thank you, Jules, although we rarely get rain in the summer - it's our dry season. We had no rain in all of July and there's no rain in the forecast for August, either. But, we can always hope for that rare summer rain!
DeleteI've been glued to the TV, most days, watching the Olympics. :D
I'm not an Olympic watcher although I was in my younger years. Not sure why I'm not drawn to it anymore. My husband has watched every day - a lot! He really enjoys The Olympics
ReplyDeleteI enjoy watching the games. I have the TV on in the background and I'm recording it, too, because my daughter doesn't have a TV in her apartment and she wanted to watch the gymnastics portions.
