November Grocery Shopping Part 1

I picked up an order of groceries on Friday.  I bought:

1/2 gallon half & half (in anticipation of daughter coming home) = $5.49

2 cucumbers, @ $.59 with coupon = $1.18
2.19 lb. green beans @ $1.99/lb. with coupon = $4.36
1 bag (10 oz.) frozen corn (substitute for 12 oz. store brand bag of corn) = $1.25
1 bag (12 oz.) frozen green peas = $1.25

1.99 lb. bananas (6 bananas) @ $.68/lb. = $1.37
1 pineapple = $1.99
3 lb. bag mandarin oranges, reg. price $5.99, on sale with coupon = $2.99
2.27 lb. apples (4 apples), reg. price $1.99/lb; on sale with coupon for $0.89/lb, = $2.03

1 bag, 12 oz. pecan halves, reg. price $8.99, on sale with coupon = $5.99

4 boxes, 9 oz. each, frozen breaded shrimp (reg. price $5.99@, on sale for $3,99; store substitute for 1 bag, 32 oz.; reg. price $12.99, on sale with coupon) = $7.99 (I think I got a very good deal, here!)

2 cans tuna, @$1.19 = $2.38

1 doz. large eggs = $2.99

1 package (6 count) plain bagels = $2.49
1 loaf multi-grain bread = $2.99

1 package 12 oz. ground coffee, reg. price $13.99, on sale with coupon = $5.99
1 package 18 oz. ground coffee (reg. price $15,99; substitute for 12 oz. package!) = $5.99  (another good deal!)

1 box frosted flakes cereal, 13.5 oz., reg. price $4.99; free with "best customer" coupon! = $0
(just about every month, I get a "best customer" coupon for a free item and I've been taking advantage of it!)

According to the receipt:

Original price total = $96.98
Coupons and sales = -$39.26
Order total = $57.72

My November grocery budget is $100 (plus $71 carried over from earlier!)

Balance remaining in the November grocery budget = $100 - $57.72 = $42.28 (+ $71 = $113.28)

I am holding off on buying the Thanksgiving turkey until my daughter actually gets here!  Turkey is selling for $.79/lb. with the purchase of $25 additional groceries which should not be difficult to spend (I'd want to get potatoes, a pumpkin pie, some whipped cream, etc., to round off the Thanksgiving meal).  So, there might be another grocery shopping post in a couple of days!

As always, I am grateful for:

- Being able to buy groceries
- Being able to order online
- Curbside pick up
- The store's generous substitution policies
- Sales and coupons!

How is your November grocery shopping coming along?  If you are celebrating Thanksgiving, are you hosting it?  Or, will you be taking a dish to share?

  1. You are doing very well with your budget and substitutions and I like the sound of a best customer freebie every month.
I hope your daughter has a safe journey home and you have a wonderful time together.

  3. Another good shop for you. The shrimp really turned into a good deal. And like you said, the smaller packaging may end up being preferable.
Free cereal. What a good thing lol
I am a big cereal eater. For me, it's a satisfying thing to eat.
This past weekend I found another "harmed" box of cereal on the markdown rack during my early morning grocery store visit.
A cereal I used to buy before the price skyrocketed. But at 50% off it came home with me.
Flax Plus Pumpkin Raisin Crunch. It makes a nice dry snack too :)

    1. Thank you, Debra; yes, another good shop. I am happy to get the free cereal - it's very sugary, of course, and not so good for me, but, I am thinking that I can put it aside to donate to the food bank.
Sounds like you got a very good deal on the cereal. :)
