Thursday's Blessings

"Pink Lemonade" Lemon (Citrus limon)

M brought me a sample of a type of Eureka lemon known as pink lemon, or pink lemonade lemon, or variegated pink Eureka lemon.  The leaves on the tree are variegated green and white and the rind of the fruit is also variegated green and cream.  They turn light pink inside when ripe, apparently, but the one he brought to show me wasn't ripe enough to turn pink.  But, according to what I read online, the juice of the pink lemonade lemon is not pink!  So, you can't make pink lemonade with the juice of the pink lemonade lemons!  LOL.

Another cooler day, today.  In the morning, cousin P called.  She's decluttering, too (we both have the donations pick up people scheduled for the same day) and as she declutters, she offers me certain items!  I know I don't have to accept them, but, she had a pair of her daughter's denim shorts that still had tags on them and asked if my daughter would like to have them.  My daughter, who left most of her wardrobe back in her apartment when she came down for what she thought would be three months at the most, was happy to have them, along with a shirt that P included.  P also gave me an almost new blanket, still in its plastic zippered cover!  I can always use another blanket and was happy to receive it!

I did a couple of loads of laundry today and ordered more groceries for pick up, tomorrow.  But I spent most of the afternoon doing some paperwork and filing.  I am look for the lab work request I received in mid July from the oncologist; it is not in the file folder where I normally keep my lab work requests and I can't think of where else I might have put it!  I might have removed it from the file when I went to get my blood work done for the primary care physician, thinking I might lose it if I took it with me or get it mixed up with the other lab work request.  If so, then, where would I have put it?  Obviously in a "safe" place that is so safe that I can't find it, now!  If I can't find it, tomorrow, I will call the oncology clinic and ask if they can send me another lab work request (or send it directly to the lab).  My next oncology appointment is in mid-October and I like to get the blood tests done a few days before the appointment date.

I also managed to do a bit of decluttering!

Today, I received some news about a friend who is experiencing some health issues and I am reminded, once again, that good health is such a blessing and the time we spend with our loved ones is precious.

Today, I am grateful for:

- Cousin P blessing my daughter and me with new clothes and a blanket
- Working appliances and electricity/natural gas to run them
- Phone chats with family and friends
- Being able to order groceries online
- Good health and being able to have my daughter home with me

Today's joyful activity was clearing the pile of papers that was sitting on my desk!

Plans for tomorrow include picking up the groceries and having M tend to the garden.

How was your Thursday?  What are your plans for Friday?  Have you seen a pink lemonade lemon?

  1. I've never heard of pink lemonade lemons. Will you save the pips and try to grow your own?

When you place your grocery orders are you limited to the amount you can purchase of any one item? That seems to be happening increasingly over here but I'm not sure whether it's due to stock levels or to do with restricting delivery sizes. It's not always the same items.

M is coming to tend my garden today so it's a day at home for me. I'm feeling the urge to clean so, if I can't fight that urge, will make a start on deep cleaning the bedrooms.

    1. Apparently the pink lemonade lemons don't have many pips! I guess the plants are available for sale - they are grafted onto root stocks. I have 3 lemon trees, currently, and I am not sure if I'd want a 4th one, even for the variegated leaves and fruits. I'd rather concentrate on growing a mango orchard!

There used to be limits on certain items, last year, during the beginning of the lockdown. Currently, there doesn't seem to be any limits on what I've been ordering, but, I've heard that some of the warehouse type stores (Costco, etc.) have put limits on certain items like toilet paper! I have read news articles that a shortage of delivery drivers are having an impact on supplies to stores and restaurants. I suppose, depending on supply issues and people's tendencies to hoard, we, too, might see some limits being placed on various items.

Oh, no! Not the urge to clean! Quick, take two Panadols and rest! Hopefully, it will go away! :D

  3. I wonder how the flavour of the pink lemon compares with the regular lemons. Is it as tart or sweeter?
I'm impressed with your decluttering. So you gained one blanket and you have parted with a lot of items in one day! I hope you find that lab. requisition.
The weather has been wonderful, and it was lovely to sit outside with coffee with my friend. In the afternoon, since lunch was late after grocery shopping, I decided against yard work, but needed to be outside and I cleaned the vinyl shutters instead. We ate lunch and supper on our deck again. The leaves are starting to turn and we can hope for a beautiful display.

    1. The lemon is supposed to taste sweeter, but, I really couldn't tell if it was so or not.

Thank you! I impressed myself, yesterday! LOL. But, I was in a mood to declutter and so, I did! I have plans for that blanket and if they work out, the blanket won't be in my possession for very long. :)
I couldn't find the lab order, so, called the clinic and they said they will email me a copy. If I don't receive it, next week, I will call them, again. They offered to fax it over to the lab, but, then, I wouldn't be able to verify if they did or not until I showed up for the blood test!

I'm so glad that you are enjoying some lovely weather! It has been a bit cool for us, over here, but, the weather is nice! There was a moderate earthquake, in the evening, a few miles from where I live; but, no damage has been reported and nothing fell or broke in my house, for which I am very grateful!

  4. I've never seen a "pink" lemonade before. Interesting.
Hope you find you lab paper, but it sounds like you're doing just what my mother used to say when I couldn't find something. "Clean 'til you find it." That used to annoy me as a kid, but as an adult - a very practical saying.

    1. I eventually gave up trying to find the lab order and called the clinic to ask them to email me another copy! They offered to fax it to the lab, but, then, I have no way of knowing if the lab received it until I show up for the lab tests! Don't want them to then say they didn't receive the fax! So far, I haven't received my emailed copy, but, I shall give them a couple of days and then, call again, if necessary. :)

  5. I have never heard of that lemon before. It's very interesting, along with the pink part that doesn't produce pink juice. lol

I'm glad the clinic is emailing you a new copy of your lab order.

    1. It's the first time I've seen such a lemon, myself, Debra. Yes, the pulp being pink and not producing pink juice sounds interesting, doesn't it?

It was Friday afternoon when I called the clinic and I haven't received the emailed copy, yet. I'll give them a couple of days, next week, and call back. I know they are busy; I might have to be a squeaky wheel! :)
