Late last night, around 2:20 a.m., actually, my daughter phoned me to report that there was a fire behind the building across the street from her! She said she called 911 to report the fire and the dispatcher had said that someone else had also called and a fire crew was on the way. As far as she could tell, it was in the parking lot behind a row of shops and fast food restaurants, but, adjoining the library. The fire fighters arrived shortly after that and they put out the flames and checked the adjoining library roof, etc. In the meantime, daughter said she got dressed and kept her emergency backpack ready in case she had to evacuate her building! I'm glad the fire didn't spread and she didn't have to evacuate! No idea what might have caused the fire, though.
Well guess what I saw when I looked out the sliding glass door, this afternoon?

Today, I am grateful for:
- Daughter wasn't impacted by the fire near her apartment building
- M's help with bringing in the tree and bins
- Phone calls from cousins and friends
- Working appliances
- Cute kittens
Today's joyful activity was getting started on decorating for Christmas.
How was your day? What are your plans for the weekend?
That's a relief to hear that the fire didn't spread and your daughter stayed safe.
ReplyDeleteIf mama cat is helping Kittie scope out your system I think you may be the loser! They're ganging up on you 😂
Look forward to seeing your decorated tree.
Yes, it's a big relief the fire didn't spread. One year, there was a fire in her apartment building, but, fortunately, she was visiting me when it happened! There was some water damage to her apartment, due to the sprinklers, but, the building management repaired that.
DeleteMama cat is probably thinking I'm making a circular poster bed for her kitten! LOL.
Thanks; hope to have the tree decorated today!
There's nothing cuter than a kitten. :)
ReplyDeleteThey are so cute, aren't they?
DeleteIf at first you don't succeed...! Good luck with kitty defence mark two!
ReplyDeleteThank goodness the fire brigade was alerted in time to stop that fire spreading, and that your daughter and her neighbours were safe. Hope no-one was hurt.
LOL, thank you, I've a feeling I'm going to need a lot of luck!
DeleteYes, I'm glad the fire was put out so quickly before much damage was done. I, too, hope that no one was hurt, but my daughter said she didn't see anyone being taken away by ambulance.
So glad your daughter wasn't affected by the fire. I think you might need to get a pot of dirt just for the kitty :)
ReplyDeleteThat's what my daughter said - get another pot of dirt for the kitty! Especially as the towel I put down for it doesn't seem to meet with its approval! LOL.
DeleteSo glad your daughter didn't have to evacuate! Scary when a fire is so close! Poor kitty, he/she loves your plant pot so much! 💖
ReplyDeleteYes, I'm very relieved that my daughter didn't have to evacuate. Fires spread so quickly, don't they? I might just have to get another pot for the kitty at this rate! LOL.
DeleteOh, that little kitty is just adorable. I'd struggle to resist those eyes. X
ReplyDeleteIt is a cutie, isn't it? :)
DeleteThat kitten is just too adorable! I did manage to see mother cat in the photo of the reinforced kitty deterrent in the flowerpot.
ReplyDeleteSo glad your daughter didn't have to evacuate.
It has been snowing or sleeting all day so far and not conducive to going out as it is rather dull. But I haven't been short of exercise, up and down stairs, putting washing in and then hanging it in the basement, doing some cleaning jobs. Of course after lunch I lose momentum and start doing puzzles while I finish my coffee! I still have time to do some baking or write Christmas cards before supper.
Kitty is adorable and seems to know it! :D Mama cat is sweet and gentle. She is probably the tamest of the garden cats, but, still won't let me touch her. I've a soft spot for her and her kitten, too!
DeleteSounds like you had a busy day! I've noticed that I can have a couple of productive hours, usually in the late afternoon, and after that, I am done for the day!
Wow glad to hear she didn't have to evacuate. What a cute kitty lol. We have one that visits our garden - to torment the birds I think. Yesterday s/he chased a squirrel really far up in the large pine tree in the back of our garden. I was sure it was going to get stuck up there. It took a while but it did work his/her way back down!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sharon.
DeleteI can't tell if this kitty is a he or a she, but, it is a cutie! Glad your visiting cat managed to get down from the tree!
I'm so glad the fire near your daughter didn't affect her - it's so good she's prepared to quickly vacate though.
ReplyDeleteThat little kitty is adorable. What a sweet face. She's a determined one, that's for sure.
You have a tree! I need to read on.
Yes, we are glad the fire didn't spread! She keeps a backpack filled with her emergency stuff; she just needs to grab her computer and stuff it in the backpack and she's ready to evacuate.
DeleteToday I watched Dancer and the kitty try to play with the glass door between them. It was so cute!
Ha, ha, yes! I do have a tree! :D
p.s. Is the tree skirt something you made?
ReplyDeleteWell, sort of. It's not really a skirt - it's a length of fabric that my mother hemmed for me and which we used as a table cloth for a couple of years. I just bunch it up and use as a tree skirt, but, I haven't cut it into a circle or anything.
